>>Winter Storm Warnings & Weather Advisories Continue for Northern, Central Minnesota

(Chanhassen, MN) — Northern and northwestern Minnesota are under a winter storm warning through 7 p-m today (Wed) and a winter weather advisory is in effect for parts of western and central Minnesota.  A few inches of wet snow have already in fallen in places like Willmar, Red Wing, Hackensack, Isanti, and the Twin Cities.  Forecasters say the warning area could see up to eight inches by this evening.  Some areas in the southern half of the state are expected to receive rain today.  The Minnesota State Patrol responded to 41 crashes and 41 vehicles off the road between noon and 8:30 Tuesday night.

 

>>Miners Relief Act Introduced Wednesday in Minnesota House

(St. Paul, MN) – Steelworkers and their families impacted by the layoffs at Hibbing Taconite Company and Minorca Mine could soon see some relief.  The Minnesota Miners Act will be introduced by Iron Range lawmakers this morning (Wed 10:15am).  The bill would extend unemployment insurance benefits for the laid off workers.  The legislation will also receive its first hearing today in the House Workforce, Labor, and Economic Development Committee.

 

>>Minnesota House Bill Would Allow Year-Round Bass Fishing

(St. Paul, MN) — Minnesota anglers after the perfect bass could soon be able to fish year-round.  The House has a bill getting bipartisan support.  The D-N-R says the bass population is doing quite well so a year-round season would have little impact.  Right now, the season for largemouth and smallmouth bass runs from May until February.  Representative Jim Nash from Waconia says this legislation would allow more people to take up fishing and help the fishing industry which has suffered as of late.

 

>>House Debates Bill Banning New Pet Stores from Selling Cats and Dogs

(St. Paul, MN) — A Minnesota House bill looks to ban the sale of cats and dogs at pet stores.  D-F-L Representative Matt Norris of Blaine says it offers a compromise by grandfathering in the stores that still engage in the practice, as long as they be more transparent about the origin of their animals for sale.  Speaking to a House committee, Megan Helling says she bought a yellow lab from a pet store and endured a lifetime of medical challenges.  Michael Swanson owns Four Paws and a Tail pet store and says the bill would turn his business into a unmovable asset.  The bill was laid over for possible inclusion in an omnibus bill.

 

>>Pilot Killed in Brooklyn Park Plane Crash is US Bank Executive Dolan

(Brooklyn Park, MN) — The Hennepin County medical examiner is confirming that the pilot killed in Saturday’s plane crash in Brooklyn Park was U-S Bank executive Terry Dolan.  The report says 63-year-old Dolan from Edina died of multiple blunt force injuries.  Fire officials said Dolan was the only one aboard the single-engine plane when it crashed through the roof a home and burst into flames.  The plane has been removed from the crash site for further examination by National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) investigators.  A man inside the home at the time got out safely.

 

>>Mankato Area Farmer Dies in Tractor Accident

(Mankato, MN) — Authorities in Blue Earth County say a rural Mankato man is the victim of a fatal tractor accident.  Deputies responded to a call at a farm in Lime Township Monday afternoon for the report of a man being run over by a tractor.  Investigators say it appears the tractor accidentally started while it was in gear and 82-year-old Gerald Fredericks was standing near a rear tire.  First responders tried to save him, but Fredricks died at the scene.

 

>>Gas Prices Rising in Minnesota and Nationally

(St. Louis Park, MN) — Gasoline prices are on the rise in Minnesota and across the U-S.  Triple-A Minnesota reports the statewide average for a gallon of regular unleaded rose from $3.06 on Monday to $3.18 on Tuesday and is $3.21 today (Wed).  Gas prices went from $2.99 to $3.39 at some stations in the north metro.  Higher crude oil prices and possible new tariffs on Russian oil are reportedly factors for the spike in gas.  The national average topped $3.23 per gallon.

 

>>Bemidji Man Sentenced to 6 Years for Fentanyl Trafficking

(Minneapolis, MN) — A Bemidji man will spend six years in federal prison for trafficking fentanyl.  The U-S Attorney’s Office says 29-year-old Patrick Strong traveled with two co-defendants from Bemidji to Minneapolis to purchase $10,000 worth of fentanyl last spring. They were stopped by a state trooper the next day and a search turned up nearly 100 grams of fentanyl powder, a ghost machine gun, and a large-capacity magazine.  Authorities seized a shotgun and 23 grams of methamphetamine in a search of Strong’s and a co-defendant’s apartment. The two were in custody when officers found 30 grams of fentanyl in their possession.  Strong pleaded guilty in November.

 

>>Minnesota Timberwolves Outlast Denver Nuggets in Double Overtime

(Denver, CO) — The Minnesota Timberwolves topped the Denver Nuggets 140-139 in double overtime late last night at Ball Arena.  Nickeil Alexander-Walker was fouled on a three-point shot attempt with less than a second left and made two of his three free throws to seal the victory.  Anthony Edwards led the Wolves with 34 points, ten rebounds and eight assists, while Alexander-Walker and Julius Randle each scored 26.  Nuggets star Nikola Jokic had a triple double with 61 points, ten rebounds and ten assists.  Minnesota is now tied for sixth place in the Western Conference with a 44-and-32 record.

 

>>Minnesota Twins Top White Sox for First Win of the Season

(Chicago, IL) — The Minnesota Twins are celebrating their first win of the 2025 season.  They beat the White Sox 8-3 in Chicago Tuesday night.  Minnesota scored five runs in the sixth inning after trailing 3-0 and Harrison Bader added a three-run homer in the ninth.  Louie Varland earned the win out of the bullpen.  Pablo Lopez starts for the Twins in the series finale this afternoon (Wed 1:10pm) against Chicago righthander Sean Burke.
