(Otter Tail County, MN) — The Otter Tail Sheriff’s Office reports a drowning on the northwest side of Otter Tail Lake when a 63-year-old man fell from the pontoon into the water. David Kantrud of Fergus Falls was on a pontoon with family Saturday afternoon when he fell into the water attempting to retrieve an item from the lake. Occupants from a nearby pontoon assisted in recovering Kantrud. Resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful, and Kantrud was pronounced dead on the scene. He was not wearing a life jacket.

(Oklahoma City, OK) — Derek Chauvin, the former Minneapolis police officer who killed George Floyd, has been moved to a facility in Oklahoma. This comes after Chauvin was stabbed 22 times by another inmate on November 24th in a medium-security federal prison in Arizona. It’s unknown when or why he was moved to the Oklahoma Federal Transfer Center (FTC). Chauvin is serving a 20-year federal prison sentence.

(Frazee, MN) — A man is dead after a shooting in a Frazee residence early Saturday morning. Despite lifesaving aid, the victim, 31-year-old Arlan Bergstrom Jr. of Detroit Lakes, was pronounced dead at the scene. A 31-year-old Frazee man (was arrested. Formal charges are pending.

(Buhl, MN) — Authorities on the Iron Range are investigating a crash involving a side-by-side U-T-V that left a woman from Blaine dead. The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office says a pickup rear-ended the U-T-V on Friday afternoon near Buhl (byool). Deputies say a 61-year-old female passenger suffered life-threatening injuries and later died in the hospital. The report says the U-T-V was driven by a 15-year-old girl from Coon Rapids.

(Minneapolis, MN) — The University of Minnesota is set to open an off-campus public safety center in Dinkytown next month to address safety concerns in the area. The center will offer safety, education, engagement services, and a safe study space for students. The location will also serve as a central space for UMPD officers to patrol the area, which has seen incidents of rowdy crowds and armed robberies. University students in Dinkytown welcome the safety center as a positive step toward improving safety in the neighborhood. The grand opening is tentatively scheduled for September 6th, with construction timelines subject to change.

Dozens of people greeted U.S. gymnast Suni Lee. Lee won a gold medal as part of the U.S. women’s team and added bronze medals in the individual all-around and the uneven bars. Lee gave out autographs and hugs to the crowd before heading home from the airport.
