>>Congresswoman Morrison to Speak Out Against Cuts to Food Assistance

(Brooklyn Park, MN) — Congresswoman Kelly Morrison is hosting a news conference today (Mon 2pm) on the Trump administration’s cuts to local food assistance.  She will be joined by leaders from Second Harvest Heartland, the Food Group, and the I-C-A Food Shelf.  The Minnesota Democrat says the nearly two billion dollars in cuts to SNAP benefits in the budget bill could take food away from 45 thousand Minnesotans.  She warns that taxpayers in the state could pay up to 86 million dollars a year to cover the cost of food assistance the Trump administration took away.  Republicans in Congress say those who need food assistance will continue to get it.

 

>>AG Bondi Threatens Legal Action Against Minnesota Over Sanctuary Policies

(Washington, DC) — U-S Attorney General Pam Bondi is warning 33 jurisdictions—including Minnesota—to comply with federal immigration laws or face legal action.  Letters sent to governors, mayors, and county officials demand confirmation of compliance and details on efforts to eliminate sanctuary policies.  Bondi says the Justice Department is prepared to prosecute jurisdictions that obstruct federal enforcement.  Affected states were directed to respond by tomorrow(Tues) confirming their “commitment to complying with federal law” and they must also identify initiatives taken to eliminate the laws.

 

>>Deadly Shooting in Moorhead Believed to be Murder-Suicide

(Moorhead, MN) — Investigators believe a shooting in Moorhead early Saturday that left two people dead was a murder-suicide.  Police found a 53-year-old and 21-year-old dead in an apartment and recovered a gun at the scene.  A juvenile and another adult in the apartment were not injured.  Police are not seeking any suspects and say there is no ongoing threat.  The Minnesota B-C-A assisted local authorities with the investigation.  No names have been released.

 

>>Duluth Man Arrested for Killing his Mother

(Duluth, MN) — Police in Duluth say 46-year-old Nathan Davin is under arrest for the shooting death of his mother.  Officers say 74-year-old Maedean Davin was found dead of an apparent gunshot wound on Saturday.  The suspect was taken into custody without incident on pending charges of second-degree murder.  Davin is now in the St. Louis County Jail and police are continuing their investigation.  No other information has been released at this time.

 

>>Visitation Monday for Forest Lake Police Detective Brown

(Forest Lake, MN) — There’s a visitation later today (Mon) for Forest Lake Police Detective Joshua Brown.  The department says Brown died unexpectedly on August 11th while off duty at age 41.  Brown started with Forest Lake in 2017 and served as a patrol officer and detective.  He was also a member of the National Guard since 2000 and was deployed to Bosnia and Iraq.  The visitation is from 4 to 8 pm at Maranatha Church in Wyoming.  The funeral for Officer Brown is Tuesday at 11 am followed by a private burial at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.

 

>>Thunderstorms Cause Flash Flooding in Southern Minnesota

(Chanhassen, MN) — Severe storms Sunday evening are blamed for flash flooding in parts of southern Minnesota.  The National Weather Service reports flooding closed several roads in the Waseca area and there was water over Highway 14 near Walnut Grove.  Several funnel clouds were spotted near Delavan in Faribault County and a 55-mile-per-hour wind gust was recorded north of Hanska in Brown County.  Most of central and southern Minnesota were under a flash flood watch through this morning.

 

>>State Fair Officials Ready to Open the Gates on Thursday

(Falcon Heights, MN) — The 2025 Minnesota State Fair begins on Thursday and officials say they’re prepared.  Spokesperson Maria Hayden says, “I think we’re full steam ahead. We’re ready to open the gates. We’ve got everything out there now we’re just waiting for everyone to plan their visit.”  Pre-Fair Discount Tickets are available through Wednesday at Cub Foods stores.  They cost 17 dollars for all ages.  Regular gate admission is 20 for adults and 18 dollars for seniors and kids.

 

>>Twins, Lee Slam Tigers in Series Finale at Target Field

(Minneapolis, MN) — A grand slam by Brooks Lee was the highlight of the Twins’ 8-1 win over the Tigers Sunday in the series finale at Target Field.  Lee’s four-run shot was part of a six-run third inning for Minnesota.  Byron Buxton and Royce Lewis also homered for the Twins.  Right-hander Thomas Hatch pitched five innings of one-run ball for the victory.  Ex-Twin Chris Paddack allow all eight runs for his 11th loss.  The Twins are off today (Mon) and open a three-game series with the A’s Tuesday at home.

(Minneapolis, MN) — For 24 hours, $10 is all you need to get a ticket to the University of Minnesota football opener against Buffalo.  Starting today (Mon) at noon, fans can buy upper-level tickets for just $10 for the game Thursday, August 28th at Huntington Bank Stadium.  This exclusive deal will end at noon Tuesday.  The opener is also the annual Gold Out, so fans are encouraged to wear gold when they cheer on the Gophers.
