(St. Paul, MN) — Secretary of State Steve Simon vows to protect Minnesota’s elections from federal overreach. President Trump announced that he plans to get rid of mail-in ballots and called voting machines “highly inaccurate” and “very expensive.” Simon said in a statement that the U-S Constitution gives states full control of elections, and a president has no power to grab election authority from the states. He notes more than 1.2 million Minnesotans cast their ballots from home in 2024. Simon says local officials use ballot tabulators that are certified by state and federal authorities and are tested in public before every election.

(St. Paul, MN) — The Minnesota Gun Owners Caucus is cheering a judge’s ruling that strikes down the state’s ban on binary triggers. Vice president Rob Doar says they argued a gun provision did not belong in a 14-hundred-page tax and spending bill. He says, “We didn’t make a Second Amendment challenge that binary triggers are protected or anything like that. We just simply asserted that the Minnesota Constitution was not followed with this bill and this provision was a glaring example of that.” A binary trigger allows a gun to fire one round when the trigger is pulled and another when it is released. Protect Minnesota is calling on the state to appeal the ruling.

(Northfield, MN) — A man is pleading guilty to a terrifying attack on the St. Olaf College campus in May of 2022. William Schulenberg admitted to four counts of assault, including assault causing great bodily harm and assault with a deadly weapon. The Minnesota Attorney General’s Office says Schulenberg climbed through a dorm window during a party and attacked a woman with a knife and hammer. Three other people intervened, and they were attacked. Schulenberg will be sentenced November 5th in Rice County District Court.

(Moorhead, MN) — The Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office is naming the two people who died in a murder-suicide Saturday morning in Moorhead. They were identified as 21-year-old Camilo Acosta and 53-year-old Nancy Acosta. A juvenile and another adult were also present in the apartment but were not harmed. The Moorhead Police Department acknowledged the profound impact of the tragedy, saying the incident will leave lasting effects on survivors and the broader community.

(Rochester, MN) — The Wisconsin manhunt is off after the suspect from Canton, Minnesota was arrested in Olmsted County on Monday night. Nathan Gossman is awaiting extradition to Vernon County, Wisconsin where formal charges are expected. Viroqua police said the incident began when officers responded to a call in a local parking lot about a man with an active warrant. On arrival, Gossman and Jesse Devlaeminck of Rochester got into a vehicle and sped away, hitting an officer as they fled. Devlaeminck hopped out and was arrested on multiple active warrants, as Gossman fled the scene.

(Waseca, MN) — Multiple Waseca beaches and bodies of water are closed due to an “emergency discharge of wastewater.” City officials say Clear Lake, Rice Lake, Giater Lake, Watkins Lake, Moonan Marsh, and Crane Creek are affected, and that their water could be a health hazard. They note the sewer system was overwhelmed by this weekend’s rainfall, which caused flash flooding across the state.

(Falcon Heights, MN) — A Minnesota State Fair tradition returns this morning (Tues). The D-N-R outdoor fish pond and indoor fish tanks will be filled at the State Fair building. The D-N-R says approximately three dozen species of native fish will be added to the pond this year. They include sunfish and lake sturgeon. The D-N-R’s live fish exhibit began back in 1905. The Minnesota State Fair opens Thursday and runs through Labor Day.

(Brooklyn, NY) — The Minnesota Lynx go for a three-game sweep of the New York Liberty when the teams play again tonight (Tues 6pm ) in Brooklyn. The Lynx topped the Liberty 86-80 on Saturday night at Target Center following an 83-72-win August 10th at the Barclays Center. Napheesa Collier is listed as doubtful as she recovers from a sprained ankle. New York’s Breanna Stewart has been out since July 28th with a knee injury. Minnesota leads the W-N-B-A with a 28-and-5 record. The Liberty are 21-and-13 this season.

(Minneapolis, MN) — The Minnesota Twins open a three-game series with the Athletics tonight (Tues 6:40pm) at Target Field. The 58-and-66 Twins won the series finale against the Tigers 8-1 on Sunday after dropping the first three games. The 56-and-70 A’s were also off last night. All-Star Joe Ryan pitches for Minnesota in the opener. Left-hander Jacob Lopez is on the mound for the Athletics.
