>>GOP State Representative Robbins Running for Minnesota Governor

(Maple Grove, MN) — Republican state Representative Kristin Robbins of Maple Grove is running for Minnesota governor.  Robbins announced her campaign in a You Tube video posted Tuesday.  She says, “I know that life as a working family is never easy, but failed politicians like Tim Walz are making it even harder.”  Robbins accuses Walz of spending an 18-billion-dollar surplus in two years and raising taxes by 10 billion.  The D-F-L Party claims Robbins cleared her social media accounts of all mentions of Nikki Haley despite her heavy involvement with Haley’s presidential campaign in Minnesota last year.  Robbins chairs the House Fraud and Oversight committee.

 

>>AG Ellison Rules Out Run for Governor in 2026

(St. Paul, MN) — Governor Walz is expected to announce whether he’ll run for a third term after the Minnesota State Fair.  Attorney General Keith Ellison was asked about running for governor Tuesday.  Ellison said, “I like my job a lot. We have a great governor. And as far as I know, he’s running for re-election until he tells me otherwise.”  Ellison’s plans are still up in the air as his term ends in 2026.  He endorsed Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan for U-S Senate next year.

 

>>Protect Minnesota Disappointed State’s Ban on Binary Trigger Struck Down

(Plymouth, MN) — Anti-gun violence groups are disappointed by a court ruling that struck down the state’s ban on binary triggers.  Maggiy Emery of Protect Minnesota says the law was found to be unconstitutional because it was included in a large omnibus bill.  She says, “This really wasn’t about the legality of a binary trigger ban in and of itself. So I do think this gives a window of opportunity to come back to the legislature next year and say okay let’s pass this as a stand-alone.”  Emery says binary triggers are incredibly harmful and were used to kill first responders in Burnsville in February 2024.

 

>>Helping Paws Creates Hortman Heroes Fund

(Eden Prairie, MN) — Helping Paws created the Hortman Heroes Fund to honor the late House Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman, her husband Mark, and their dog Gilbert.  Spokesperson Jonathan Kramer says the unique fund will support veterans and first responders with service-related P-T-S-D receive service dogs free of charge.  He says the kindness of the community and everyone affected by the Hortman’s story has had a profound impact on Helping Paws.  Minnesotans who want to volunteer to train a service dog or donate to the Hortman Heroes Fund can do so by visiting Helping Paws’ website.

 

>>Former Mesabi East Teacher Accused of Sexually Assaulting Teenage Girl

(Aurora, MN) — A former math teacher at the Mesabi East School District in northeastern Minnesota is accused of sexually assaulting a teenage girl.  St. Louis County authorities say 43-year-old Ryan Denzer of Embarrass is facing felony criminal sexual conduct charges.  Court records say Denzer assaulted the alleged victim several times in 2023 and 2024 at his home.  Denzer reportedly admitted to the sexual abuse.  School officials said they were made aware of his arrest, but the alleged conduct was not related to his employment with the district.  Denzer resigned from Mesabi East High School on August 10th.

 

>>Willmar Man Wanted on Warrant Arrested for Meth

(Willmar, MN) — A Willmar man who previously shot at a police is in custody again.  The Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Office and the CEE-VI Drug and Gang Task Force arrested the 28-year-old man early Monday.  The suspect was recently released from Minnesota Department of Corrections custody in relation to the shooting at a Willmar police officer in July 2022.  He violated the condition of his release and earned an arrest warrant.  During his arrest, he was found in possession of a handgun and methamphetamine.  A2 1-year-old woman was also arrested and found to have meth.

 

>>Final Day for Prefair Discount Tickets Online and at Cub Foods

(Falcon Heights, MN) — This is the final day (Wed) to purchase Pre-Fair Discount Tickets for the 2025 Minnesota State Fair.  They are available on the State Fair website and at Cub Foods stores in Minnesota for 17 dollars.  Regular gate admission this year is 20 dollars for adults and 18 dollars for seniors and kids ages 5 to 12.  Children age 4 and under are free.  The gates open Thursday morning for Great Minnesota Get-Together.

 

>>Minnesota Lynx Fall to New York Liberty in Brooklyn

(Brooklyn, NY) — The Minnesota Lynx fall to 28-and-6 with an 85-75 loss to the 22-and-13 New York Liberty Tuesday night in Brooklyn.  Courtney Williams led Minnesota with 17 points, Natisha Hiedeman had 16, and Dijonai Carrington added 11 points.  The loss snaps the Lynx six-game win streak and was their first since All-Star forward Napheesa Collier went down with an ankle injury.  Minnesota plays at Atlanta on Thursday and Indiana on Friday night.
