(Falcon Heights, MN) — Week two of the Minnesota State Fair begins today (Mon) in Falcon Heights. Just under 199 thousand people came to the Great Minnesota Get-Together on Saturday. The Sunday attendance figures will be released this afternoon. Cooler temps are expected again today with a high in upper 60s or low 70s. This is Senior Day and at gate admission for fairgoers ages 65 and better is 15 dollars. The Happy Together Tour featuring the Turtles is tonight’s Grandstand concert. Los Lobos is playing the free State Fair Bandshell stage.

(Falcon Heights, MN) — Today (Mon) is Minnesota State Patrol Day at the State Fair. Fairgoers will have the opportunity to meet troopers, see demonstrations, explore vehicles, and learn more about careers in public safety. The K-9 unit, Honor Guard and Special Response Team will also be there. This year’s event will honor the 25th anniversary of Trooper Ted Foss’s line-of-duty death in Winona. Visitors can sign a special version of a highway sign in his honor. You can find the State Patrol exhibits at the North End on North Underwood Street until 3 p-m.

(Blaine, MN) — Minnesota now has a new State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) in Blaine. The facility was first used during the weekend of the political attacks on Minnesota lawmakers and the manhunt for the suspect. Public Safety Commissioner Bob Jacobson paid tribute to Representative Melissa Hortman for her help to get this center built. Jacobson said, “I think in large part we can remember and be thankful for the leadership of Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman and the work she did.” The new emergency center is state of the art and replaces the old facility in St. Paul. The S-E-O-C can withstand winds of 165 miles per hour and has back-up generators to keep power on for 72 hours during an outage.

(St. Paul, MN) — Minnesota House Republican leaders are applauding a judge’s ruling that challenged a 2023 law that sought to strip faith-based universities from participating in the state’s Post-Secondary Enrollment Options (PSEO) program. The University of Northwestern in Roseville and Crown College in St. Bonifacious require students to sign a statement of faith to take part in the program which allows high school students to earn college credits. The Department of Education had tried to ban the faith statement, and the legislature passed the law in 2023. In this latest ruling, the judge called it an unconstitutional violation of religious freedom. Republican House Speaker Lisa Demuth says the ruling is a win for “religious liberty.”

(Progress Township, MN) — Authorities in Carlton County are investigating an A-T-V crash that left two people dead Saturday night. Deputies say group of riders discovered the side-by-side A-T-V overturned in some water with the occupants still inside. A 48-year-old woman from Cloquet and a man from out of state were found unresponsive and emergency crews were unable to save them. Sheriff’s officials say the two victims were riding with the group but at some point, became separated. Their names haven’t been released.

(Roseville, MN) — A Powerball ticket sold in the state for Saturday’s drawing is a 100-thousand-dollar winner. The Minnesota Lottery says the lucky ticket was purchased at Miller Hill Super One in Duluth. The winning numbers for the August 23rd drawing are 11, 14, 34, 47, 51 and the Powerball 18. Nobody claimed the Powerball jackpot Saturday, and it is estimated at 750-million dollars for tonight’s (Mon) drawing.
>>Animal Humane Society Hosts Successful “Clear the Shelters” Event
(Golden Valley, MN) — The Animal Humane Society reports a successful “Clear the Shelters” event was held Saturday. During the eight hours of discounted adoptions, A-H-S says 81 animals were adopted. The total included 51 cats, 28 dogs and two guinea pigs. The Humane Society offered a 50 percent discount Saturday only. Compared to the previous Saturday, the shelter’s adoptions increased by 34 furry friends. All three local shelters took part in the event: Golden Valley, Coon Rapids and Woodbury.

(Minneapolis, MN) — Napheesa Collier returned from an ankle injury to score 32 points and lead the Minnesota Lynx to a 97-84 win over the Indiana Fever at Target Center. Courtney Williams had 14 points and ten assists, and Kayla McBride added 13 in Sunday’s victory. Kelsey Mitchell led Indiana with 26 points. The 30-and-7 Lynx play the 20-and-18 Seattle Storm Thursday night in downtown Minneapolis.

(Dyersville, IA) — The Minnesota Twins will reportedly play a game next season at the “Field of Dreams.” The Twins and Philadelphia Phillies are set to play the first big league game at the iconic field in Dyersville, Iowa since 2022. The 1989 movie starring Kevin Costner was filmed at the site. The White Sox and Yankees played the first “Field of Dreams” game in 2021, and the Cubs and Reds met there the next season. The date for the Twins and Phillies 2026 matchup hasn’t been announced.
