(Undated) — Vice President Kamala Harris and Governor Tim Walz kick off a bus tour on Wednesday in the state of Georgia. Campaign officials say Harris and Walz will meet directly with voters in their local communities. They say the Harris-Walz presidential ticket has more than 170 Democratic staffers in 24 campaign offices across Georgia. Governor Walz is in Minnesota today (Mon) to interview judicial candidates but has not yet been spotted at the State Fair. Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump is scheduled to appear at a town hall Thursday evening across the border in La Crosse, Wisconsin.

(Falcon Heights, MN) — Day five of the State Fair is going to be another warm one with an excessive heat warning in effect today (Mon) for southern Minnesota. Fair spokesperson Maria Hayden says Mother Nature mostly cooperated over the first four days and they had record attendance on opening day Thursday and Friday as well. She says they have misting stations, water stations, and some air-conditioned buildings to help people cool off. The Grandstand concert tonight (Mon 7pm) is the Happy Together Tour featuring the Turtles, the Association, and Badfinger.

(Chanhassen, MN) — The National Weather Service says excessive heat will linger across central and southern Minnesota today (Mon). Forecasters say today will be sunny and hot with a high in the low 90s and heat index values over 100 degrees. An excessive heat warning has been issued for this afternoon and this evening for the Twin Cities area and most of southern Minnesota. A cold front will move in later today, creating a chance for severe thunderstorms tonight and early tomorrow.

(Milaca, MN) — Authorities are investigating the death of a man in the Mille Lacs County jail. The sheriff’s office says 57-year-old Robert James Sam of Onamia (oh-NAY’-mee-uh)was found unresponsive Friday in his cell and later died in the hospital. His cause of death is pending toxicology reports. Officials say Sam turned himself in two days earlier on an arrest warrant.

(Minneapolis, MN) — Police say a 15-year-old girl is dead after a shooting at a home Saturday afternoon in north Minneapolis. Officers found the teen with a life-threatening gunshot wound and she died of her injuries at North Memorial Hospital. Detectives say two adults and two teens were in the home, but no arrests have been made. The family has identified the victim as 15-year-old Tyra Terry and is planning a memorial vigil.

(Duluth, MN) — Officers are still searching for suspects in a shooting in Duluth that left two men injured. Police say they found a “chaotic scene” early Saturday and 56-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the chest was brought to a local hospital. A 29-year-old man with a wound to the lower abdomen drove himself to the hospital. No other information is being released.

(Blaine, MN) — A pedestrian from Princeton is the victim of a deadly crash Saturday morning in Anoka County. The Minnesota State Patrol says 27-year-old Randy Bjurstrom walking in the lanes of traffic on Highway 47 in Blaine when he was struck by a car. The report says Bjurstrom died at the scene. Troopers say the driver wasn’t hurt and was not impaired at the time.

(Sartell, MN) — A man is under arrest for allegedly robbing a convenience store at knifepoint in Sartell. Police say the suspect got away with several thousand dollars from the BP store’s pull tab cash. Investigators say they reviewed camera footage of the robbery and were able to match the suspect and his vehicle. Officers say the 57-year-old suspect was arrested in Sauk Rapids trying to buy pull tabs at another store.

In northern Minnesota, Ely Police Chief Chad Houde got creative by offering new recruits a canoe as a retention incentive. The initiative aims to attract candidates to rural police departments by highlighting the rewarding nature of the job despite the slower pace compared to big cities. (Mankato, MN) — Minnesotans affected by June’s severe storms and flooding have about a month to apply for disaster relief through FEMA. The filing deadline for grants to help with repairs and housing assistance is September 27th. About 14 hundred Minnesotans have been approved for assistance so far. FEMA has opened disaster recovery centers in Mankato, Waterville, and Virginia to help answer questions and get applications completed. Applications can also be submitted online at disaster-assistance-dot-gov.

(Coon Rapids, MN) — Recent inspections by state investigators have revealed that two “sheens” found on the Mississippi River were caused by a leak of hydraulic fluid from the Coon Rapids Dam. The discolorations were spotted in the river between Coon Rapids and Fridley last week. According to a spokesperson for the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, technicians at the dam discovered that a valve had leaked approximately 30 gallons of lubricant into the river while adjusting a gate. The M-P-C-A has assured that the lubricant has dissipated and the water in the affected area is safe for drinking.
