>>Endorsed DFL and GOP Candidates Win Minnesota Senate Primary Elections

(St. Paul, MN) — The matchups are now set for two Minnesota Senate special elections in November.   State Representative Amanda Hemmingsen Jaeger of Woodbury won the Senate District 47 Democratic primary Tuesday with 82 percent of the vote.   She will face Republican candidate Dwight Dorau for the seat of former Senator Nicole Mitchell.  In the Senate District 29 Republican primary, Michael Holmstrom, Junior won a three-way race with more 73 percent support.  He will take on D-F-L candidate Louis McNutt for the seat of the late Senator Bruce Anderson of Buffalo.

 

>>1 Dead, 6 Wounded in Mass Shooting near South Minneapolis High School

(Minneapolis, MN) — Police are still trying to find the suspect in a mass shooting Tuesday afternoon in south Minneapolis.  Chief Brian O’Hara called it a “deeply troubling act of violence.”  O’Hara told reporters, “In the middle of the day a gunman armed with a high velocity .223 rifle opened fire on a group of people on the sidewalk directly across the street from a Catholic high school. That gunman wound up killing one person and wounding six others.”  O’Hara says the shooter fired around 30 rounds before getting in a vehicle and fleeing the scene.  Investigators believe the gunman was targeting at least one of the victims in the group.

 

>>$4 Million in Grants for Gas Stations Adding Renewable Fuel Pumps

(St. Paul, MN) — The state Department of Agriculture has around four million dollars available to help gas stations expand access to renewable fuels.  Program administrator Jenny Lezer  says they have grant funding that can go to petroleum retailers in Minnesota that are looking to upgrade their storage tanks, their dispensers or other equipment that they need so that they’re able to offer E-15 and higher ethanol blends to their communities.”  She says about 20 projects received grants in 2024.  The grants range from five thousand to 199 thousand dollars.

 

>>Finstad Introduces Bill to Boost Pork and Poultry Processing

(Washington, DC) — Congressman Brad Finstad is pushing for more certainty in America’s food supply chain.  On Tuesday, the Minnesota Republican introduced the American Protein Processing Modernization Act, aimed at keeping pork and poultry processing plants running at full capacity.  The legislation builds on a proven pilot program and would require the U-S-D-A to publish clear food safety criteria for increased line speeds.  Finstad says the bill protects farmers from arbitrary slowdowns that can lead to lost contracts and longer wait times between deliveries.

 

>>Barnesville Man Killed in Head-on Crash

(Barnesville, MN) — The Minnesota State Patrol says a Barnesville man died in a two-vehicle crash Tuesday morning in Clay County.   Sergeant Jesse Grabow says 89-year-old Burton Swenson was killed in the crash.  The other driver, 64-year-old Cary Zepper of Hawley, was taken to Sanford Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

 

>>DNR Urges ATV Safety for Labor Day Weekend

(Undated) — A-T-V and U-T-V drivers need to keep safety in mind if they’re riding this Labor Day weekend.  Minnesota D-N-R Safety Outreach Coordinator Lisa Dugan  says extra conservation officers will be out to make sure people are recreating safely.  Dugan says there’s been a growing trend in the number of fatal crashes in recent years, and there’s been 11 in Minnesota this year.  Tips on riding safely can be found on the D-N-R’s website.

 

>>Minnesota’s Waterfowl Season to Open Soon

(St. Paul, MN) — The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is reminding hunters that waterfowl season is just around the corner.  The early teal season runs from Saturday, September 6th through Wednesday, September 10th, while the early goose season spans September 6th to September 21st.  All hunters age 16 and older must carry a federal duck stamp.  In addition, waterfowl hunters need a small game license, while an early goose permit is no longer required, hunters should note that a small game license is still necessary.

 

>>Minnesota Twins Rally Past Blue Jays in Toronto

(Toronto, ON) — The Minnesota Twins used a four-run ninth inning to rally past the Blue Jays 7-5 Tuesday night in Toronto.  Matt Wallner and Mickey Gasper hit home runs in the ninth and Luke Keaschall had a two-run shot in the sixth.  Minnesota starter Bailey Ober allowed four runs over five innings and Michael Tonkin pitched two-thirds of an inning for the win.  The Twins and Blue Jays play the rubber match tonight (Wed 6pm) at the Rogers Centre.
