>>Harris-Walz Presidential Ticket to Sit for CNN Joint Interview

(Atlanta, GA) —  Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz are scheduled to have their first joint interview with C-N-N.  They will be interviewed by C-N-N’s chief political correspondent and anchor, Dana Bash, at 8 pm Thursday.  Harris and Walz are on a bus tour through Georgia, and this will be the first time Harris has had an in-depth interview since President Joe Biden decided not to run for re-election.

 

>>Republican VP Candidate Vance Campaigning in Wisconsin

(Undated) — Republican vice-presidential candidate J-D Vance campaigns today (Wed) in neighboring Wisconsin.  Vance will be in the Green Bay area, talking about the economy, inflation, and energy.  His Democratic rival, Governor Tim Walz, speaks at the International Firefighters Association Convention in Boston, then goes to Savannah, Georgia to kick off a bus tour with Vice President Harris.  On Thursday, former President Trump has a town hall just across the border in La Crosse, Wisconsin, while Walz campaigns in North Carolina.  Looking ahead to Labor Day, the Walz-Harris campaign plans a series of events in every battleground state.

 

>>Heat, Severe Weather Led to Low Monday Attendance at State Fair

(St. Paul, MN) — The Minnesota State Fair is reporting its lowest attendance in decades for Monday with only 80,546 visitors.  The extreme heat and severe storms caused flash flooding on the fairgrounds, which significantly contributed to the decrease in turnout.  The State Fair had a delayed opening on Tuesday while cleanup efforts were underway.  This attendance figure represents the lowest first Monday attendance since 1983 and one of the lowest for any non-opening day since the mid-1980s.  The Great Minnesota Get-Together set attendance records on opening day Thursday and Friday.

 

>>2 Brothers Charged in Fatal Shooting of 15-Year-Old Girl in Minneapolis

(Minneapolis, MN) — Two teenage brothers are now charged in the shooting death of 15-year-old Tyra Terry on Saturday in north Minneapolis.  The 16- and 17-year-old boys face one count each of aiding an offender after the fact.  The Hennepin County Medical’s Examiner’s Office says Terry died of a gunshot wound to the torso.  The juvenile petition says the boys were standing next Terry when police arrived and a loaded nine millimeter gun was found at the scene.  The suspected shooter fled the house.  A witnesses told officers she heard a gunshot and the boys yelling that it was an accident.

 

>>Mother’s Day Cabin Burglar in Otter Tail County Jail

(Fergus Falls, MN) — A man suspected of burglarizing a lake cabin on Mother’s Day in rural Underwood is now in jail in west-central Minnesota’s Otter Tail County.  The cabin owner showed deputies surveillance video of the man passing by the cabin several times in a boat, then walking onto the property.  A pizza oven, motor, toolset, and other items were missing.  A neighbor told deputies he’d sold the boat to his nephew, and after further investigation an arrest warrant was issued for 40-year-old Ryan Bohn of Fargo.  Bohn was already in custody in Cass County on different charges.

 

>>Rochester Man Pleads Guilty for Swindling Woman of Over $16K

(Rochester, MN) — A Rochester man is pleading guilty to defrauding a woman of more than $16,000 by impersonating a law enforcement officer.   Prosecutors say 21-year-old Gabriel Weatherspoon will be sentenced to three years in prison.  Weatherspoon was arrested in May after impersonating a sergeant from the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office.

 

>>MnDOT to Begin Electric Vehicle Charging Station Grants this Fall

(Undated) — MnDOT will be hosting information sessions on where to install electric vehicle charging stations near Interstate 90 in southern Minnesota.  This comes as a part of the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure program, which will reimburse up to 90% of project costs.  MnDOT hopes the grant round will open this fall.  The first session is on September 9th via online registration from 10 a-m to noon.  The second session is on September 10th in Worthington from 1-3 p-m.

 

>>New Study Suggests Minnesota Nurses Best Paid in the U-S

(Kennesaw, GA) — A recent study suggests nurses in Minnesota are the highest paid in the nation.  The analysis of data by the health care employment website HealthJob shows Minnesota registered nurses have an average salary of nearly 95-thousand dollars a year.  Their pay ranks 12th in the U-S for nurses, but that’s before the cost of living in each state is factored in.  The cost of living drops higher-paying states like California and Hawaii lower on the list and elevates Minnesota nurses to the top spot.

 

>>Labor Day Gas Prices

(Undated) — GasBuddy is out with its annual Labor Day travel forecast.  They are predicting that the average price of a gallon of gas will continue its recent downward trend, falling to $3.27 per gallon on Labor Day, which is the lowest Labor Day price since 2021.  GasBuddy says we have the best opportunity in years for the national average to fall below $3 per gallon closer to Thanksgiving.  Gas stations in most states will start transitioning to winter-blend gas on September 16th, which will likely help accelerate the decline in gas prices.
