Walz hasn’t been subjected to the criticism leveled at his closest rivals, the New York Times reporting progressive groups accuse Shapiro and Kelly of being too conservative on key issues. United Auto Workers President Shawn Fain on “Face the Nation” said Walz and Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear are the union’s top two choices, calling Walz “one hundred percent behind labor.” Harris reportedly could announce her decision as soon as today (Mon). She kicks off a battleground state tour with her running mate tomorrow in Philadelphia, followed by a stop Wednesday in Eau Claire in western Wisconsin.

St. Cloud State University Economics Professor King Banaian (BAN’-yan) says there’s a lot of campaign talk about it, but the president particularly doesn’t have a whole lot of impact on it. He says we give presidents too much credit when the economy is doing well and too much blame when the economy is doing poorly. Banaian says school boards, city councils, and county planning commissions have more of an impact on your pocketbook than an executive order from the president on the G-D-P.

(Rochester, MN) — A state lawmaker from Rochester says her home was vandalized with racist and antisemitic graffiti over the weekend. Representative Kim Hicks posted photos of K-K-K and swastikas on spray painted on her shed, several political yard signs with racial slurs and hate speech, and a broken-out window. Her husband told police their Ring camera picked up two to three masked people spray painting on their property. Hicks said in a statement, “We are better when we work together and our family – and our community – will not be intimidated by cowards.”

(Chanhassen, MN) — The National Weather Service says an EF-1 tornado touched down Saturday night in the city of Melrose in Stearns County. The twister had 95 mile-per-hour wind gusts and its path was about four miles long. Forecasters say the tornado damaged several farms near Melrose and businesses in town. Residents and city officials were assessing the damage on Sunday. Mayor Joe Finken said Melrose Metal Works, Munson Feed, Meadowlark Country Club, and some townhomes suffered damage. A turkey barn and storage building were destroyed. No injuries were reported.

(Moorhead, MN) — A man is dead after a stabbing in north Moorhead Sunday. Police found the victim with a stab wound to the chest. He was brought to Sanford Hospital and later died of his injuries. His identity is being withheld until family is notified. Officers say a person of interest has been detained and the victim and suspect knew each other.

(Hudson, WI) — The sheriff in St. Croix County, Wisconsin is worried about his community’s reputation after the Apple River stabbings. Sheriff Scott Knudson says he doesn’t want people to get the wrong idea following the murder of a 17-year-old boy and the stabbings of four other tubers in July 2022. Nicolae Miu of Lakeville, Minnesota was sentenced to 20 years in prison for reckless homicide and reckless endangerment last week. Sheriff Knudson says he wants people to associate the Apple River with summer fun and relaxation, not a murder trial.

(Minneapolis, MN) — Five people are in custody after a shooting near downtown Minneapolis that resulted in three people injured, two with life-threatening wounds. Police found a 48-year-old man and a 17-year-old with life-threatening injuries and a 27-year-old woman with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds early Saturday. Officers say a vehicle seen leaving the area was pulled over and five occupants, were arrested. Police say they recovered a gun and two stolen motorcycles.

(Minneapolis, MN) — A woman is dead after a two-vehicle crash in north Minneapolis Saturday night. Police say a Dodge Journey crossed a center line and struck an oncoming Dodge Durango head-on. After the crash, the 34-year-old driver of the Journey assaulted an unknown passenger of the Durango. The 31-year-old driver of the Durango and her 14-year-old passenger were brought to North Memorial Health, where the driver died. The other driver was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries before being booked for suspected D-W-I and criminal vehicular homicide.

(Minneapolis, MN) — Comcast Xfinity customers in Minnesota are not happy with the new contract that brought Twins broadcasts on Bally Sports North back to cable T-V. Many subscribers thought they’d be able to watch Twins games again on August 1st, but the channel remains blacked out. Officials says the new agreement with Bally Sports North requires subscribers to upgrade to Comcast’s Xfinity Ultimate T-V package which cost an additional 20 dollars a month. Thousands of customers without that package have been getting $10 to $15 monthly credits since the Twins went off the air in May.

(Paris, FR) — Another bronze medal for Suni Lee at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. The gymnast from St. Paul finished third in the uneven bar finals on Sunday. Lee also won bronze in the event at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo three years ago. She claimed bronze in the all-around final on Friday and the U-S won the gold medal in the team competition. Lee is competing in the balance beam final this morning (Mon 5:30 am).

(Paris, FR) — Regan Smith from Lakeville is adding another Olympic gold medal to her trophy case. Smith and Team U-S A won the four-by-100 relay in the final Olympic swimming event Sunday in Parus. The team of Smith, Lilly King, Gretchen Walsh, and Tori Huske set a new world record in the relay race. The U-S won eight swimming gold medals and 28 overall in the pool. Smith and Huske finished with five medals each.
