>>State Commission to Pick Final Minnesota Flag Design Tuesday
(St. Paul, MN) — A special commission is scheduled to adopt the official design Tuesday for the new state flag. Members picked a base design Friday that features a Navy blue outline of Minnesota with a white star and green, white and blue stripes. Vice chair Anita Gaul says, “we will now come together on Tuesday we’ll discuss a few more modifications, but in some way shape or form this is the new Minnesota state flag.” Gaul says you can check out design F-1953 on the State Emblems Redesign Commission webpage. The final design must be submitted to Minnesota lawmakers by January 1st.

(St. Cloud, MN) — The University of Minnesota Medical School and CentraCare come together this morning (MON) to commemorate the approval of plans to develop a regional campus in St. Cloud. Dean Jakub Tolar (Jacob Toe-lar) says the new site in St. Cloud will have 24 new students a year beginning in 2025 and up 96 students by 2029. This is the U of M Med School’s first new campus in 50 years. CentraCare C-E-O Ken Holmen said medical students will get hands-on experience working in small-town hospitals and the flavor of the Saint Cloud program will be those who really have an interest in rural health care.

(Marshall, MN) — The Minnesota B-C-A is investigating the fatal shooting of a stabbing suspect by a Marshall police officer early Sunday morning. The Marshall P-D says an officer saw the man stabbing a woman, deployed a Taser on the suspect, and at one point, shots were fired. First aid was performed but the man died at the scene. Investigators say the woman was airlifted to a Sioux Falls Hospital in critical condition. No further information is being released.

(Hanska, MN) — Two men from New Ulm are dead after a weekend crash on Highway 15 near Hanska in south central Minnesota. The State Patrol says a southbound car driven by 33-year-old Aaron Gronau collided with a northbound S-U-V driven by 28-year-old Luis Perez early Saturday. Troopers say both men died at the scene. The report says the roadway was wet and that Perez not wearing a seat belt.

(Minneapolis, MN) — A third person in Minnesota is dead and 26 others are ill from a salmonella outbreak linked to contaminated cantaloupe. The C-D-C reported 302 people in 42 states have become sick since November from the cantaloupe, 129 of them hospitalized and four died. Healt officials advise not to eat pre-cut cantaloupes from an unknown brand and throw away any recalled pre-cut or whole cantaloupes.

(Chicago, IL) — Quaker Oats is recalling more than 40 different granola bar and granola cereal products due to salmonella concerns. The affected products include various flavors of Quaker Chewy Bars and seven types of Quaker Puffed Granola or Simply Granola Cereals. The Quaker Oats website lists all the products and the use-by dates on the boxes. The products were sold in all 50 states. The company says there have been no confirmed cases of salmonella linked to their products, but it recommends throwing away the products that have been recalled.

(Eagan, MN) — Fire crews contained a large fire at Gopher Resource in Eagan that broke out Sunday morning. Firefighters found the fire between two roofs, with no products inside catching fire. No injuries were reported, and air quality tests showed no concerns. The cause of the fire remains unknown.

(Eagan, MN) — Triple Diamond Sports Cards and Collectibles of Eagan is the store that found the “one-of-one” Superfractor Tom Brady card released on Tom Brady Day. The card is a fictional Tom Brady baseball card showing him in the uniform of the Montreal Expos, the edges boasting a gold vinyl trim and Brady’s autograph on the front. It was created as part of a promotional campaign for the Bowman 2023 Draft card set, where Brady dreams he played professional baseball instead of football. The card, worth at least $500,000 and possibly up to $1 million, is currently being graded before being sent to the anonymous customer.
