>>Minnesota Lawmakers to Receive State Budget Forecast This Week

(St. Paul, MN)  —  The state budget forecast comes out Wednesday and there’s a lot of speculation about whether Minnesota will have a projected surplus or a deficit.  Hamline University Professor David Schultz says the state will see a decrease in federal relief funding and the Trump administration could impose some changes.  He says, “more likely than not the state is probably going to be running something at or close to a deficit or a slight deficit.”  The Minnesota Office of Management and Budget predicted a $ 3.7-billion surplus for 2024-2025 in February.  Schultz says one-time federal money helped fuel recent state budget surpluses.

 

>>Better Business Bureau Urges Minnesotans to Use Caution on Cyber Monday

(Burnsville, MN)  —  It’s Cyber Monday, and many Minnesotans will be looking for deals online.  Bao Vang with the Better Business Bureau of Minnesota and North Dakota says scams are on the rise this time of year and to beware of fake websites.  She says,” a lot of websites out there are quickly made or can be put up relatively easily, will mimic other sites and can steal photos, images, and products from other places.”  Vang recommends that consumers do as much research as possible on the products and the sellers before buying.

 

>>Police in Rochester Investigating Fatal Shooting

(Rochester, MN)  —  Police in Rochester continue to investigate a weekend shooting that a left man dead.  Officers found the 28-year-old man with a gunshot wound early Saturday and tried to save him, but he died at the scene.  Investigators say the person who called 9-1-1 reported that he had shot a man who entered his house and assaulted him.  The homeowner was taken into custody and questioned.  No names have been released.

 

>>25-Year-Old Woman Found Dead Near Powderhorn Park in Minneapolis

(Minneapolis, MN)  —  A 25-year-old woman is dead after a shooting Sunday afternoon in south Minneapolis.  Police were called to a report of an unresponsive person with a gunshot wound near Powderhorn Park.  Investigators say the family used cell phone location information to find the victim, who they hadn’t heard from since Saturday.  No arrests have been made.  Anyone with information is asked to call the M-P-D.

 

>>2nd Day of MN Uber, Lyft Drivers New Wage Rates

(Undated)  —  It’s the second day of Minnesota Uber and Lyft drivers’ new minimum wage after a long back-and-forth between employees, city and state officials, and company executives.  The new law pays drivers $1.28 per mile and 31 cents per minute with a $5 minimum per ride.  Drivers with wheelchair-accessible cars will be paid an additional 91 cents per mile .  This comes after last year’s legislative session, where higher proposed driver rates left Uber and Lyft threatening to leave Minneapolis, and then the state.

 

>>Minnesota Vikings Rally Past Arizona Cardinals at US Bank Stadium

(Minneapolis, MN)  —  The Minnesota Vikings rallied from a 13-point deficit to beat the Arizona Cardinals 23-22 Sunday at home.  Sam Darnold threw the go-ahead touchdown to Aaron Jones with just over a minute remaining and cornerback Shaq Griffin sealed the victory with a late interception.  Darnold also had a T-D pass to tight end Johnny Mundt and Justin Jefferson caught seven balls for 99 yards.  The 10-and-2 Vikings host the 6-and-6 Falcons and Kirk Cousins this Sunday.

 

>> Lynx Schedule Monday News Conference to Introduce New Coaches

(Minneapolis, MN)  —  The Minnesota Lynx are hosting a noon news conference today (Mon) to introduce their two new coaches, although one doesn’t need an introduction.  The Lynx will introduce Eric Thibault as the new associate head coach under Cheryl Reeve, and Hall of Famer Lindsay Whalen will be an assistant coach.  Whalen spent 15 years in the W-N-B-A winning four championships with the Lynx.  Whalen most recently was head coach at her alma mater, the University of Minnesota for five seasons.  Thibault spent 12 seasons with the W-N-B-A’s Washington Mystics, with the past two seasons as their head coach.
