(St. Paul, MN)- Minnesota Governor Tim Walz has ordered all U.S. and Minnesota state flags to fly at half-staff at all state buildings to honor former President Jimmy Carter. Carter died on Sunday at the age of 100. The Governor said, “President Carter defined what it means to be a servant leader. He fought for our democracy, our climate, humanity, and civil rights around the world.” Flags will be lowered from sunrise this morning (Monday, Dec.30) until sunset January 29, 2025.

(St. Paul, MN) — Governor Tim Walz and Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan are remembering former Minnesota Senate Majority leader Kari Dziedzic(DEED-zick) after her passing on Friday. Dziedzic passed away at the age of 62 after a battle with cancer. Governor Walz says Dziedzic was a one-of-a-kind leader, ally, and friend and spent her time finding ways to unite people and serve Minnesota. Lieutenant Governor Flanagan says she was a courageous, hard-working, and selfless public servant and a proud daughter of Northeast Minneapolis. Dziedzic was elected in a special election in January 2012. She was reelected in November 2012, 2016, 2020, and 2022. She served as the Minnesota House Majority Leader from 2022 to February of this year, when she stepped down due to the return of her cancer.

(Deer Creek, MN) — The Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office says an investigation is underway after a 3-year-old accidentally shot themself. The shooting happened Sunday around 5:40 p.m. southeast of Deer Creek. The child was taken to Astera Health in Wadena. Their condition hasn’t been released. New York Mills Police, Deer Creek Fire and Rescue, and Wadena Ambulance assisted at the scene.

(Esko, MN) — Icy road conditions may be to blame for a deadly crash on Interstate 35 Sunday morning southwest of Duluth in Carlton County. The Minnesota State Patrol says a car driven by 43-year-old Nathan Oleary spun out, struck a guardrail, rolled several times, and hit a bridge pier near Esko. Troopers say Oleary died at the scene. The report shows there was snow and ice on I-35 at the time.

(Mankato, MN) — A Mankato boys hockey team has recovered some of its equipment following a theft at a northern Minnesota arena. The team from Mankato West High School was set to play in the Heritage Hockey Classic tournament in Duluth on Saturday when they discovered their missing sticks. Detectives made an arrest late Saturday night after finding a man with some of the hockey sticks. The team has started a GoFundMe to purchase new sticks for those affected.

(Minneapolis, MN) — 58-year-old Joseph Davis is in custody for a fatal stabbing near a bus shelter at Nicollet Ave in Minneapolis. Police found the injured man in his 30s on the ground, bleeding from potentially life-threatening stab wounds. The victim was brought to HCMC on December 23rd and died there on Saturday. Davis was arrested Saturday and awaits updated charges.

(Minneapolis, MN) — Minneapolis Police are searching for a suspect who shot a 17-year-old male outside the Fourth Precinct Building yesterday. The teen was rushed to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. Police say the gunshots damaged the building, but no one in the building was hurt.

(St. Paul, MN) — St. Paul Police are investigating a double shooting that left two men injured yesterday morning. The shooting occurred at a convenience store on Larpenteur Avenue. One man was found at the store, and the second victim was found near Mississippi Street and Wheelock Parkway. Both men are hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
