(Minneapolis, MN) — More than 560 law enforcement leaders, prosecutors, and officials are in Minnesota today (Mon) for the National Public Safety Partnership Summit. The U-S Department of Justice says the event will highlight its commitment to supporting cities in their efforts to combat violent crime through data-driven strategies, technology, and training. U-S Attorney for Minnesota Andrew Luger and Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara are participating in the summit.

(St. Paul, MN) — House Speaker Melissa Hortman says she’s confident Democrats and Republicans can work together and pass a balanced budget with a tied chamber next session. Hortman says they need to fund the things that people count on, “from preschoolers to nursing homes to taking care of folks with disabilities. ” Republican State Representative Dave Baker of Willmar says he won’t vote for any new spending or tax increases. He says,” any new spending is going to come out of that 600 million dollars which on a statewide level it’s not very much money. So we’re going to have be very, very careful.” The state has an estimated 616-million-dollar surplus for the next two-year budget but projected multi-billion-dollar deficits in 2028-2029.

(St. Paul, MN) — The state Board of Animal Health is monitoring recent cases of highly pathogenic avian influenza in Minnesota. Three cases of bird flu were detected in late November in commercial turkey operations in Meeker County, affecting nearly 300-thousand birds. There were two cases in backyard flocks in Martin County. These are the first cases in Minnesota since July. Ag officials in Iowa recently detected cases in two counties in the northwest corner of the state.

(Cannon Falls, MN ) — Authorities in southeastern Minnesota say they’ve recovered a body in the search for a missing man in the Cannon Falls area. Firefighters located a man’s body Saturday on the south side of the Cannon River. Crews had been looking for 60-year-old Christopher Dobson for several days. Dobson went missing Monday night while walking his dog. The Cannon Falls Police Department is waiting for the medical examiner to officially identify the remains.

(Brooklyn Park, MN) — Police in Brooklyn Park are searching for the gunman in a shooting Saturday that left one person dead and another seriously injured. Officers say 23-year-old Ramone Rashawn Blue from Stewartville and another victim were shot in a parking lot. Blue died of his injuries in the hospital and other victim remains hospitalized. The suspect fled the scene before authorities arrived.

(Robbinsdale, MN) — Two teens are injured, one seriously, after being shot in Robbinsdale Sunday. Police say it happened round 12:45 am in a parking lot. The 17-year-old boy and a girl were taken to North Memorial Hospital. Officials say the boy is in serious condition and the girl was released. No arrests have been made.
>>Brook Park Man Dies in Kanabec County Car Crash
(Mora, MN) — A man from Brook Park is the victim of a deadly crash Sunday afternoon near Mora in Kanabec County. The Minnesota State Patrol says a car driven by 70-year-old William Bonney lost control at an intersection, went into the ditch, rolled over and struck a tree. Troopers say Bonney died in a Mora hospital. The report shows the roadway was wet at the time and Bonney was not buckled up.
>>Healthcare Workers Begin Strike in Deer River
(Deer River, MN) — Workers who are members of S-E-I-U Healthcare Minnesota and Iowa at Deer River Essentia Health are walking off the job this morning (Mon) to begin an open-ended Unfair Labor Practice strike. It will include a rally on the picket line at noon. The union workers say they will stay on the picket line until a deal is reached. One worker, Janelle Denny, says they’re looking for fair wages that will keep employees in place longer than a couple of years. There is currently no bargaining sessions planned between the two sides.

(Eagan, MN) — Sam Darnold had a career-high five touchdown passes in the Minnesota Vikings’ 42-21 win over the Atlanta Falcons Sunday at U-S Bank Stadium. Darnold threw for 347 yards and three T-Ds to Jordan Addison and two scores to Justin Jefferson. Former Minnesota quarterback Kirk Cousin passed for 344 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions in Atlanta’s fourth straight loss. The 11-and-2 Vikings won their sixth game in a row and will host the Chicago Bears on Monday Night Football next week.
>>Gophers Accept Duke’s Mayo Bowl Bid
(Minneapolis, MN) — The University of Minnesota football team will play in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl on January 3rd in Charlotte, North Carolina. The 7-and-5 Gophers’ opponent will be 6-and-6 Virginia Tech, a team Minnesota has never played. The Golden Gophers have won seven straight bowl games, which is the longest active streak in the nation, the longest in Big Ten History and tied for seventh longest in college football history. If Minnesota wins, Coach P-J Fleck has committed to taking part in the Duke’s Mayo bath as part of the victory celebration.
