(Washington, DC) — U-S Senator Amy Klobuchar is urging more protections for Americans from the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning. Klobuchar was lead author of the Nicholas and Zachary Burt Memorial Carbon Monoxide Poisoning Prevention Act of 2022 following the tragic deaths of two brothers from Kimball, Minnesota. Klobuchar wants the Consumer Product Safety Commission to address the heightened risks of carbon monoxide poisoning during the winter months and provide further education on the dangers and the importance of installing C-O detectors in homes. She says more than 400 Americans die from carbon monoxide poisoning each year, and more than 14,000 are sent to the hospital.

(Anoka, MN) — More than a thousand teachers, parents, and supporters packed the Anoka-Hennepin School Board meeting Monday night after a rally demanding a fair contract. Union leaders say health insurance costs have jumped 22 percent, leaving some teachers with up to 400 dollars less per paycheck. Anoka Hennepin Education Minnesota President John Wolhaupter told the board over 90 percent of members would vote to strike if needed. A strike authorization vote is set for December 17th through 20th, with results expected December 20th. If approved, the union could file intent to strike the week of December 22nd, and a walkout could begin in early January.

(Chanhassen, MN) — Another snowstorm is expected to move across Minnesota later today (Tues) and into Wednesday morning. The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning for parts of central and eastern Minnesota where four to seven inches of snow could fall. A winter weather advisory is posted for areas in western, central, and southeastern Minnesota with three to five inches expected. Forecasters say some parts of southern Minnesota could see a rain-snow mix. Southwestern Minnesota is under a winter storm watch for strong wind gusts and blowing snow.

(St. Paul, MN) — The preliminary totals show motorcycle fatalities are down 25 percent in Minnesota this year. State Motorcycle Safety Specialist Jay Bock says we had 76 motorcycle deaths in 2024 and this year we’re at 57. Bock says they are pleased to see that number go down significantly and hopes the trend continues in 2026. There are around 400 thousand motorcyclists in Minnesota but not all of them are active. All fatal crashes are down this year in the state.

(Black River Falls, WI) — A woman from Minnesota is the victim of a deadly pedestrian crash on Interstate 94 near Black River Falls in western Wisconsin. The Wisconsin State Patrol says the 30-year-old woman from Mahtomedi was hit by a vehicle Monday evening in Jackson County. The report says the victim died at the scene. The incident is still under investigation.

(Buffalo, MN) — A first-degree murder indictment could result in a life prison sentence for a Watkins man accused in the alleged sledgehammer killing of a co-worker in Cokato. Forty-year-old David Bruce Delong appeared in Wright County court Monday on first- and second-degree murder charges in the November 11th death of 20-year-old Amber Czech of Hutchinson. Wright County Attorney Brian Lutes confirmed that the first-degree charge reflects the seriousness of the case. Czech is remembered by colleagues as “a hardworking welder who took great pride in her craft and dreamed of building a bright future through her work.”

(Prior Lake, MN) — Authorities are investigating a fire that caused extensive damage Monday to the Masjid Hamza Mosque and the Baitul Hikmah Academy in Prior Lake. The blaze has left members of the congregation and students deeply shaken. Jaylani Hussein, executive director of CAIR-Minnesota, described the site as one of the most promising and unique Islamic centers in the state, now facing the possibility of being a total loss. In response, CAIR is urging mosques and all places of worship to strengthen security measures, remain vigilant, and promptly report any suspicious activity. No injuries were reported in the incident.

(Becker County, MN) — Indigenous rights activist Winona LaDuke says her family farm near Osage was riddled with bullets in a drive-by shooting last month. LaDuke told the Minnesota Star Tribune that her grandchildren were inside the home when gunfire erupted, forcing them to duck for cover. She said, “They almost killed my grandchildren.” Investigators later recovered about a dozen bullets and casings from kitchen cabinets, walls, and broken windows. LaDuke says she has received little communication from law enforcement weeks into the investigation. The Becker County Sheriff’s Office has described the shooting as a “rare” incident and confirmed that the case remains open.

(Renville, MN) — A woman from Olivia is recovering from injuries suffered in an accidental shooting in Renville County. Sheriff’s deputies say she was shot in the leg Friday in the parking lot of the Southern Minnesota Beet Sugar Cooperative in Renville. The woman was taken by ambulance to the Olivia Hospital and later transferred to St. Cloud hospital in stable condition. Officers say they found a gun in her vehicle.

(St. Paul, MN) — Minnesota deer hunters can take part in a late-season chronic wasting disease (CWD) management hunt next Friday through Sunday. The hunt covers permit areas 605, 642, 643, 645, 646, 647, 648, and 649. C-W-D testing is voluntary this year, but carcass movement restrictions remain in effect. Hunters who want to bring meat out of the zone immediately must quarter their deer first. Disease management permits can tag both bucks and antlerless deer, and the bag limit is five.
