>> No Death Penalty Decision Yet in Boelter Case

(Minneapolis, MN) — Federal prosecutors say no decision has been made yet on whether to pursue the death penalty for the man accused of assassinating a Minnesota lawmaker and her husband, and shooting a state senator and his wife. Vance Boelter is charged with killing Minnesota House Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, last June. He’s also accused of wounding State Senator John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, in a related attack the same day.  The choice on whether to seek the death penalty rests with U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi. The issue is expected to be discussed again at a status hearing on April 17th.  Boelter has pleaded guilty to all charges.

 

>>Minnesota Reports Five Measles Cases So Far in 2026

(St. Paul, MN) — Minnesota health officials say five measles cases have been confirmed in the state so far this year. According to the Department of Health, all cases involve unvaccinated children and adults in the Twin Cities metro area.  Officials say four of the five patients are connected, and all were infected within the United States.

Last year, Minnesota reported 26 measles cases.

 

>> German Soccer Team Cancels Planned Tour to Minnesota

(Undated) — A German soccer club is calling off its planned visit to Minnesota, citing concerns tied to Operation Metro Surge. Werder Bremen CEO of Klaus Filbry told a German newspaper the team is withdrawing after two people were shot and killed by federal authorities in Minnesota.  Filbry said playing in a city experiencing unrest “and where people are being shot” does not align with the club’s values.  Werder Bremen had been scheduled to spend a week between Minnesota and Detroit in May, with two friendly matches planned as part of the tour.

 

>>Hormel Foods Divesting Whole-Bird Turkey Operations

(Austin, MN) — Hormel Foods is divesting its whole-bird turkey operations, selling them to another Minnesota-based company as demand for traditional turkey products continues to decline.  Life-Science Innovations, headquartered in Willmar, will acquire the business, including a processing plant in Melrose, a feed mill in Swanville, and related transportation assets. Hormel, based in Austin, will keep the Jennie-O brand and will continue producing and marketing its ground turkey products. Minnesota remains the leading turkey-producing state in the country.

 

>>U.S. Will Play Canada for Hockey Gold Medal

(Milan, Italy) – The United States men’s hockey team has a date with Canada Sunday for the gold medal at the Winter Olympics in Italy. The U.S. trounced Slovakia 6-2 in the semifinals. Jack Hughes scored two goals and Zack Werenski had three assists in the win. Canada rallied to beat Finland to secure their spot in the title game. The gold medal game will start at 7:10 a.m. Minnesota time Sunday morning.

 

>>Wolves, Edwards Top Mavericks at Target Center

(Minneapolis, MN)  —  The Minnesota Timberwolves beat the Dallas Mavericks 122-111 Friday night at Target Center in their return from the All-Star break.  Anthony Edwards led the Wolves with 40 points,  Rudy Gobert had 22 and 17 rebounds, and Naz Reid scored 21 points.   The Mavericks rallied to tie the game with just under seven minutes remaining before Edwards and Reid made consecutive three-pointers.  The Timberwolves host the 76ers on Sunday night.
