>>Below Zero Temperatures Across Minnesota Monday Morning

(Chanhassen, MN) — Most of the state is under an extreme cold warning or cold weather advisory until Tuesday afternoon.   Minnesotans are waking up to temperatures in the single and double-digits below zero this morning (Mon) statewide.   The air temp was 35 below at Ely, minus 31 at International Falls, 29 below zero at Big Fork, and negative 26 at Bemidji, Warroad, and Park Rapids at 4am.   The mercury dropped to 13 below zero in the Twin Cities and minus 11 in Mankato and Red Wing.   The forecast calls for a slight warmup on Wednesday.

 

>>Representative Frazier Highlights Importance of MLK Day

(St. Paul, MN) — People in Minnesota and across the U-S are honoring the legacy of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Junior on this state and federal holiday (Mon).   State Representative Cedrick Frazier of New Hope believes we have made progress in America since Doctor King’s “I Have a Dream” speech, but says there’s much more work to be done.   Frazier said, “He talked about some of the promises that were made in terms of ensuring that there were resources and equitable access to housing, to jobs, to education. And those are things we still see today where we see large disparities and inequities in terms of who gets access and who doesn’t get access.”   There are M-L-K Day events and celebrations across Minnesota today.

 

>>Congressman Stauber Excited for 2nd Trump Inauguration Day

(Washington, DC) — Minnesota Congressman Pete Stauber is excited to be attending the 60th Presidential Inauguration today (Mon 10am start) in Washington, D-C.   The 8th District Republican says this is a historic event.   Stauber says, “Anytime you can witness an inauguration, a peaceful transfer of power, it is an awesome experience.”   He’s bringing his wife and kids to today’s events.   President-elect Trump and Vice President-elect Vance will be sworn in inside the U-S Capitol Rotunda due to below freezing temperatures.   Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar will be calling the ceremony to order as chair of the bipartisan Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies.

 

>>Minnesota State Fair Raising Gate Admission by $2 in 2025

(Falcon Heights, MN) — Gate admission to the Minnesota State Fair is going up to 20 dollars for adults and 18 for seniors and kids this summer.   Fair officials say they’re raising ticket prices by two dollars to help fund extensive capital improvements and maintenance work and to address rising operational costs.   The board approved 20.1 million dollars on projects to improve the State Fairgrounds, including 13.9 million for the first phase of renovation work on the Lee and Rose Warner Coliseum.

 

>>2 People Found Unresponsive in Yellow Medicine County Hog Barn

(Friendship Township, MN) — Authorities in Yellow Medicine County are investigating after two people were found unresponsive in a hog barn Saturday night near Clarkfield.   Deputies discovered the person who reported the incident removing the victims from the barn.   They provided life-saving measures until paramedics arrived.   Both victims were airlifted to H-C-M-C in Minneapolis where their current conditions are unknown.   Investigators say they do not suspect foul play, and it is unclear how the victims became unresponsive.

 

>>1 Dead After Jeep Hit Overhead Sign, Catches Fire on I-94 in St. Paul

(St. Paul, MN) — One person is dead after a crash Sunday on Interstate 94 in St. Paul.   The State Patrol says a westbound S-U-V tried to exit the freeway when it hit an overhead sign and caught fire.   Troopers say the driver and only occupant was killed in the crash.   The investigation is open.

 

>>Minor’s Head Grazed by Bullet in Brooklyn Park Shooting

(Brooklyn Park, MN) — A juvenile is okay after a bullet grazed their head Saturday night in Brooklyn Park.   Police were called to a reported shooting at an apartment building where they found a vehicle hit by two bullets.   About two blocks away, the minor victim had a graze wound to their head and was brought to a hospital.   No arrests have been made.

 

>>Free National Park Entry Today in Minnesota

(Washington, DC) — The National Park Service is offering free admission to all national parks, monuments, historic sites, and scenic areas today (Mon).   This free admission day is one of six scheduled for this year.   In Minnesota, six parks will have free entry, including Voyageurs National Park and Grand Portage National Monument.   The next free admission day will be on April 19th.

 

>>Lake Harriet Art Shanty Projects on Chilly Display

(Minneapolis, MN) — The Art Shanty Projects are on display on Lake Harriet in Minneapolis despite weather delays this weekend.   Opening day was pushed back a few hours yesterday due to the extreme cold.   Still, many people showed up for bonfires, beverages, food, and fun.   The Art Shanty Projects will continue every Saturday and Sunday through February 9th.

 

>>Timberwolves and Wild Play MLK Day Matinees

(Memphis, TN) — The Minnesota Timberwolves and Wild are playing Martin Luther King Day matinees on the road.   The Wolves take on the Grizzlies in Memphis at 1:30 this afternoon.   Minnesota lost to Cleveland 124-117 Saturday night at Target Center.   The Wild face off against the Colorado Avalanche at 2 pm in Denver.   They are coming off a 6-2 setback to the Predators in Nashville on Saturday.   The banged-up Wild have a one-point lead over Colorado in the Central Division.
