>>DOJ Appeals Order Restricting ICE Agents from Retaliating Against Protesters

(St. Paul, MN) — The U-S Department of Justice is appealing a federal judge’s order restricting ICE agents in Minnesota from retaliating against peaceful protesters.  The injunction blocks immigration officers from using pepper spray and other munitions on peaceful demonstrators and observers.   It also bars them from stopping vehicles that are following them at a safe distance.   D-O-J officials argue the injunction hinders their ability to enforce the law and protect officers.

 

>>Homeland Security Secretary Noem Announces 10K Arrests in Minnesota

(Minneapolis, MN) — U-S Department Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem says more than ten thousand criminal aliens have been arrested Minnesota.  Noem said in a statement that three thousand have been arrested in the last six weeks as part of Operation Metro Surge.  She called them, “vicious murderers, rapists, child pedophiles, and incredibly dangerous individuals.”  The ICE protests were quiet on Monday due to extremely cold temperatures.

 

>>Meeting Between Clergy, Target CEO Rescheduled for Thursday

(Minneapolis, MN) — A meeting scheduled for Monday between faith leaders and Target C-E-O Brian Cornell is being pushed back to Thursday.  Last week, more than 100 clergy visited Target headquarters requesting a meeting with Cornell urging his company to stand with Minnesotans to protest ICE operations here.  On M-L-K Day, the two sides mutually agreed to delay the meeting to Thursday.  Faith leaders are requesting that Cornell publicly call for ICE to end the surge and leave Minnesota, call for the officer to be held responsible in the death of Renee Good, and deny federal agents access to Target stores unless they present judicial warrants.

 

>>Organizers Encourage Minnesotans to Participate in ‘ICE Out of Minnesota’

(Minneapolis, MN) — “ICE Out of Minnesota: A Day of Truth and Freedom” is a statewide movement this Friday to protest ICE operations in Minnesota and urge federal agents to leave the state.   A large march and rally is planned for Minneapolis.   Natasha Docktor with the Minnesota Federation of Teachers says, “Our collective resolve and action that Minnesota is a place of hope and joy where immigrants are welcomed will be what defends us in this moment.”   Minnesotans are urged to avoid work, school, and shopping as a unified pause to show solidarity and economic power.  Labor leaders are urging Minnesota companies to participate, too.

 

>>Body Found at Pole Building Fire in St. Louis County

(Gnesen Township, MN) — St. Louis County authorities say a body has been found at the scene of a structure fire in Gnesen Township north of Duluth.  Investigators located remains that are believed to be a 76-year-old Duluth man around 8 o’clock Monday night.  Firefighters were called at 1 p.m. to a fully engulfed pole building.  One person was unaccounted for, and extreme fire conditions made rescue attempts impossible.  The investigation remains active.

 

>>Coldest Air of Season Arrives in Minnesota This Week

(Chanhassen, MN) — It’s been chilly for a few days in Minnesota, but the coldest air of the season arrives late Thursday.  National Weather Service Meteorologist Ryan Dunleavy says Friday is going to be frigid.  He says the forecasted high temperatures will be minus-10 degrees in the Twin Cities and 20-below zero in northwestern and parts of northern Minnesota.  Dunleavy says many areas have seen 30 to 35-below zero windchills the past couple days.  He warns it will feel even colder Thursday through Saturday.

 

>>Minnesotans Should Keep a Winter Survival Kit in Their Vehicle

(St. Paul, MN) — Minnesotans can stay safer on the roads by keeping a winter survival kit in their vehicle.  Homeland Security and Emergency Management Deputy Director Kevin Reed says the kit should include supplies you’d need if you become stranded in cold temperatures for an extended period.   He recommends something to keep you warm, a bottle of water, a bright colored bandana or something to put on your window to have people notice you.     Other items to put in your kit include candles, a cell phone charger, and a whistle.

 

>>Minnesota Wild Beat Maple Leafs in Toronto

(Toronto, ON) — The Minnesota Wild skated past the Maple Leafs 6-3 last night in Toronto to improve to 2-0 on their road trip.  Marcus Foligno had his first career hat trick, Vladimir Tarasenko scored two goals, and Ryan Hartman also lit the lamp.  Filip Gustavsson made 27 saves in the victory.  Minnesota snapped Toronto’s seven-game home win streak.  The Wild wrap the three-game road trip tonight (Tues 6pm) at the Montreal Canadiens.
