>>Extreme Cold Warning Continues for Minnesota

(Chanhassen, MN) — Minnesota is under an extreme cold warning with air temperatures double-digits below zero this morning (Fri) in the state.  International Falls was the coldest spot at 32-below zero; it dropped to minus-31 degrees in Cook and Ely; 29 below in Bemidji, Hibbing, and Two Harbors; minus-28 in Duluth, Grand Rapids and Park Rapids; 26 below zero at Brainerd; and minus-21 in the Twin Cities, St. Cloud, Rochester, and Owatonna.  Schools are closed across the state today due to the frigid cold and many districts have moved to e-learning.

 

>>CenterPoint Reminds Minnesotans to Keep Safety in Mind During Cold Snap

(Minneapolis, MN) — With bitter cold settling in across Minnesota, CenterPoint Energy is urging residents to heat their homes safely.  Spokesperson Joshua Solis says keep space heaters away from anything that can burn and make sure they have an automatic shutoff.  He also reminds everyone to check smoke and carbon-monoxide detectors.  And if you smell a rotten-egg odor, leave immediately and call emergency responders and CenterPoint Energy.  More tips are on their website.

 

>>Frey Pushes Back Against Criticism from Vice President Vance

(Minneapolis, MN) — Mayor Jacob Frey is pushing back against Vice President J-D Vance’s criticism of Minneapolis.  During his visit Thursday, Vance singled out Minneapolis, saying ICE faces greater chaos here than in Los Angeles and Chicago.  He blamed a lack of cooperation between state and local law enforcement and federal law enforcement.  Frey said, “What makes Minneapolis different is that we have an influx of 3,000 federal agents on our streets, and we’re not the size of New York City or Los Angeles. What makes us different is that we’re seeing constitutional violations play out in real time.”  Frey says his door was open to meeting with Vance, but he wasn’t invited to the vice president’s roundtable yesterday.

 

>>’ICE Out of MN: A Day of Truth and Freedom’ March in Minneapolis

(Minneapolis, MN) — Despite the frigid cold temperatures, today is “ICE out of Minnesota: A Day of Truth and Freedom” which will include a rally and march in Minneapolis.  JaNae Bates Imari of Faith in Minnesota and says the movement has been building.  She says, “Hundreds of businesses have already said, have already signed on so have students, so have hundreds of organizations and labor unions, hundreds of faith institutions and communities and we are calling for this to be a day where no one shops, no one goes to school, no one goes to work.”   The march begins at 2 p-m at the Commons in Minneapolis and a rally will follow inside Target Center.

 

>>GOP Candidate for Governor Demuth Reacts to Possible Klobuchar Run

(St. Paul, MN) — Republican candidate for governor Lisa Demuth is already taking aim at U-S Senator Amy Klobuchar.  Minnesota’s senior senator filed paperwork for a possible run for Minnesota governor Thursday.  Demuth said in a statement, “Klobuchar would be a rubber stamp for a Walz third term. I am ready to prosecute her record, hold her accountable and make sure she can’t double down on Tim Walz’s failures in Minnesota.”  Klobuchar is considered one of the most popular politicians in the state and is known for her bipartisan work in the U-S Senate.

 

>>Cold Spring Brewing Fined $16 K for Stormwater Violations

(Cold Spring, MN) — The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency says Cold Spring Brewing Company paid nearly 16 thousand dollars in fines for stormwater violations.  An M-P-C-A investigation in May 2024 found that the company’s main Cold Spring facility failed to reduce or eliminate contaminated stormwater runoff and failed to implement an inspection plan.  Officials say their St. Cloud location failed to apply for an industrial stormwater permit.  Cold Spring Brewing has agreed to a list of corrective actions.

 

>>State Opens DAIRI Program for Minnesota Dairy Producers

(St. Paul, MN) — Minnesota dairy farmers enrolled in the federal Dairy Margin Coverage program can now apply for additional state support through the DAIRI program.  The Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) says the initiative offers financial assistance to producers who committed to six years of DMC coverage during the enrollment window of January 12th through February 26th.  To qualify, applicants must operate a Minnesota dairy farm that produced less than 160,000 hundredweight of milk in 2022.  Ag Commissioner Thom Petersen says this round of funding builds on strong participation when DAIRI was first launched in 2019, adding the support will help farmers afford DMC premiums and strengthen rural communities.  Applications are open through 5 p.m. on March 19th, with up to 3 million dollars expected to be distributed.

 

>>Minnesota Wild Top Red Wings in Overtime

(St. Paul, MN) — The Minnesota Wild needed overtime to beat the Detroit Red Wings 4-3 Thursday night at Grand Casino Arena.  Kirill Kaprizov’s second goal of the night was the game-winner for Minnesota in O-T.  Mats Zuccarello also scored twice and his second tied it 3-3 with just over six minutes remaining.  Filip Gustavsson made 31 saves for his 100th career win.  The homestand continues Saturday night when the Wild play the Florida Panthers as part of Hockey Day Minnesota.
