(Minneapolis, MN) — Hundreds gathered in south Minneapolis Wednesday evening to honor 37-year-old Renee Good, who was shot and killed by an ICE agent in her vehicle earlier in the day. Mayor Jacob Frey said, “Let’s show them something far more beautiful than the kind of division they are trying to stoke. Let’s show them unity of purpose, of love, and the courage of our conviction.” Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem characterized the incident as an act of domestic terrorism. Noem said at a news conference, “This city has burned before, and your mayor and governor let it happen. President Trump is not going to let that happen.” She claims federal law enforcement officers are here to bring peace and public safety. The video appears to show the ICE agent fire one shot from the front of the vehicle and two more shots into Good’s driver’s side window.

T he Whipple Building houses ICE offices, an immigration court, and holding cells for detainees.

(St. Paul, MN) — Governor Tim Walz is directing the Minnesota National Guard to be prepared in case they’re needed for public safety. This follows the deadly shooting of a woman by an ICE agent in Minneapolis. Senate Republican Minority Leader Mark Johnson of East Grand Forks claims the governor is correcting a mistake he made during the George Floyd protests. Johnson said, “He was very late on preparing National Guard with getting things ready to get in place and curtail that one. So I think it’s good preparation to have people ready to do that.” The governor has also activated the State Emergency Operations Center in Blaine.

Titus said in a statement, “The Minnesota Police and Peace Officers Association stands firmly behind law enforcement officers, accountability under the law, and the safety of every community.” Federal officials claim the deadly shooting of 37-year-old Renee Good was self-defense, but some question that after reviewing the video.

The district told parents it is closing and cancelling all activities due to safety concerns. There was an altercation between ICE agents and Roosevelt High School students that included officers spraying chemical into a crowd.

(Chaska, MN) — The Carver County Sheriff’s Office will not pursue a contract with ICE to house its detainees. Sheriff Jason Kamerud says following careful review, they determined that ICE’s requirements were beyond what their facility can accommodate and would take more than half of the jail space. He says their priority remains maintaining safety and serving the community.

Department of Health Senior Epidemiologist Melissa McMahon says we’ve had more than two thousand hospitalizations and around 40 adult deaths. She says, “this is probably the worst of it. It does seem to be leveling off just a little bit, which is great. Hopefully we’ll be able to say we peaked soon.” Influenza A H-3-N-2 is the strain making a lot of Minnesotans sick this season.
