>>Walz Declares Day of Unity in Honor of ICE Shooting Victim Good

(St. Paul, MN) — Governor Tim Walz is proclaiming today (Fri) as a Day of Unity in honor and remembrance of Renee Nicole Good of Minneapolis.  The governor is asking Minnesotans to pause for a moment of silence at 10 a-m to remember Good and all that is good and right about this nation.   He’s encouraging people to find a way to contribute in their community and participate in acts of service.   Thirty-seven-year-old Good was fatally shot in her vehicle by an ICE agent on Wednesday in south Minneapolis.   Walz is calling on Minnesotans to continue to protest peacefully.

 

>>John Mulaney Postpones Minneapolis Armory Shows Due to ICE Shooting

(Minneapolis, MN) — Comedian John Mulaney is postponing his three shows this weekend at the Minneapolis Armory in response to the ICE shooting of Renee Good.   Mulaney wrote on social media that what’s happening in Minneapolis is heartbreaking and he doesn’t feel comfortable asking people to leave their homes when the situation may be unsafe.  He says he’s sorry for everyone who is disappointed.  The shows have been rescheduled April 10th through 12th.

 

>>US House Passes ACA Tax Credit Extension

(Washington, DC) — A bill passed Thursday in the U-S House would extend the expired A-C-A tax credits from Obamacare for three years.  Those monthly healthcare premium credits expired on December 31st.  Before the vote, 17 Republicans crossed the aisle and said they would vote for the measure.  The final vote was 230-196.  The bill would resurrect the premium tax credits for about 22 million Americans and lower healthcare costs for others.  It  now goes to the U-S Senate where Republicans say it will be defeated.

 

>>Representative Stauber Pushes Plan for Chilean Mine Near Boundary Waters

(Washington, DC) – Congressman Pete Stauber is backing a plan to allow a Chilean-owned copper mine near the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW).  The effort surfaced through an Interior Department filing in the Congressional Record and could overturn protections put in place after years of scientific review and public input.  Critics, including Save the Boundary Waters, call the move “unprecedented,” saying it risks pollution in America’s most visited wilderness while benefiting a foreign company.  Congress could vote within 60 days if the plan clears Senate review.

 

>>BCA Identifies Man Who Died of Medical Emergency in Renville County Jail

(St. Paul, MN) — The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) is identifying the man who died after a medical emergency at the Renville County Jail on January 1st.  Officials say 53-year-old Percy Strother of Roseville was found unresponsive in his cell and jail staff provided medical aid.  Strother was taken to a local hospital where he died a short time later.  Investigators say there were no obvious signs of trauma, and the cause of death is pending.

 

>>Duluth Man Arrested in October Homicide Case

(Duluth, MN) — A suspect is in Duluth police custody for a homicide that happened last October.  Authorities say 32-year-old Branden King was arrested Wednesday on pending charges of second-degree homicide in the death of 35-year-old Chazz Toney.  Officers originally responded to a shooting in the early morning hours of October 10th, where Toney was found dead from a gunshot wound.  Police in Duluth say the investigation remains active, and anyone with information is asked to call the Violent Crimes Unit (218-730-5050).

 

>>Twin Ports Drug Trafficking Operation Leads to 24 Arrests

(Duluth, MN) — Twenty-four people are jailed after ten search warrants were executed in Duluth and Superior Wednesday.  The Lake Superior Violent Offender Task Force worked with local, state, and federal law enforcement while investigating the Black P Stone street gang , known for smuggling large amounts of narcotics and creating violence.  Officers seized $28,000 in cash, over 330 grams of methamphetamine, 138 grams of fentanyl, 79 grams of cocaine, and one illegal firearm.  Since the investigation began in May 2023, they have arrested 48 people and seized over 512 grams of meth, 292 grams of cocaine, 12 grams of crack cocaine, 2,201 M-30 pills, nearly 2,000 grams of fentanyl, and 17 firearms.

 

>>Edwards Reaches 10K Points as Wolves Cruise Past Cavs at Target Center

(Minneapolis, MN) — The Minnesota Timberwolves extended their win streak to four games with a 131-122 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers at Target Center.  The Wolves outscored the Cavs 43-22 in the third quarter after trailing at the half.  Julius Randle had 28 points and 11 rebounds, Jaden McDaniels scored 26, Anthony Edwards added 25 and nine assists, and Donte DiVincenzo finished with 22 points.  Edwards became the third youngest player in N-B-A history to reach 10-thousand points.  Donovan Mitchell scored a game-high 30 points in the loss.  The Wolves and Cavs meet again Saturday afternoon in Cleveland.

 

>>Minnesota Wild Top Seattle Kraken in Overtime

(Seattle, WA) — The Minnesota Wild needed overtime to beat the Kraken 3-2 Thursday night in Seattle.  Mats Zuccarello scored the game-winning goal two minutes into O-T.  Minnesota had a 2-0 lead after two periods before Seattle tied it with a pair of third-period goals.  Ryan Hartman and Brock Faber both lit the lamp in the first period and Jesper Wallstedt stopped 26 saves for the win.  The team went 4-1-and-2 on its seven-game road trip.  The Wild are back home Saturday night to host the New York Islanders.
