(St. Paul, MN) — Governor Walz is set to lead a trade mission to Europe later this fall. The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development says the trip to Ireland and the Netherlands will occur in November. Nearly three dozen Minnesota businesses and organizations in industries such as medical technology, food, and agriculture will participate in the trade mission. The governor believes the trip will provide an excellent opportunity to establish new business connections in Europe.

(Undated) — Minnesota Republican U-S Senate hopeful Joe Fraser gives thumbs-up to Ohio Senator J-D Vance as former President Donald Trump’s choice for his vice presidential running mate. Vance is 39 years old, and Fraser calls him “a newcomer to the political scene.” He says, ” I think it shows that there’s an opportunity for some youth in our party and bring somebody who can be the future that the party can build around.” But Marissa Luna with Alliance for a Better Minnesota says Trump and J-D Vance both have explicitly said they want to ban abortion nationwide and have both talked about cutting Social Security and Medicare. She says, “Republicans are completely out of touch with what Minnesotans, and even this new generation, wants from our leaders.”

 

>>Minnesota Supreme Court to Hear  Discrimination Case of Transgender Powerlifter

(St. Paul, MN) — The Minnesota Supreme Court will hear the case of JayCee Cooper, a transgender woman seeking protection from discrimination after being denied entry into U-S-A Powerlifting competitions. Gender Justice legal director Jess Braverman says this is a landmark case with sweeping implications for the rights of trans athletes under Minnesota law, including younger residents. She says, ” our state has the number-one rate of girls participation in high school sports, and we have for the last 11 years. ” The Minnesota Court of Appeals affirmed that discrimination against athletes based on gender identity violates the state Human Rights Act but sent Cooper’s case back to district court to determine whether U-S-A Power Lifting rejected her because she is transgender.

 

>>White Bear Lake Man Charged With 2nd Second Murder in Infant’s Death

(White Bear Lake, MN) — A White Bear Lake man is now charged with second-degree murder in the death of his three-month-old son. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office says Jackson Forester died in the hospital March 22nd of complications due to blunt force head trauma. Prosecutors say 39-year-old Mark Forester is accused of shaking then eight-week-old Jackson on January 31st before the boy’s mother brought him to the hospital. The criminal complaint says Mark Forester admitted he may have done something to his son but didn’t remember because he’d been drinking.

 

>>Fatal ATV Crash Under Investigation in Hibbing

(Hibbing, MN) — Authorities on northern Minnesota’s Iron Range are investigating a deadly A-T-V crash. Police in Hibbing say they found a 38-year-old man lying in the roadway Monday with a four-wheeler near him. Officers say the rider wasn’t breathing and life-saving measures were performed but he died at the scene. The victim hasn’t been identified.

 

>>Private Well Users in SE Minnesota Can Apply for Free Test Kits

(Rochester, MN) –Residents in southeastern Minnesota who rely on private wells can now request free kits to test their water for various hazards. The TAP-IN Safe Water Drinking Program, which is overseen by water conservation districts in the area and funded by the Minnesota Department of Health, is offering this service. Those who participate in the program will have their water analyzed, and some well owners may qualify for financial assistance to fix any issues or to drill new wells. Homeowners and renters with private wells in Dodge, Fillmore, Olmsted, Goodhue, Houston, Mower, Rice, Wabasha, and Winona counties are eligible to take part in this program.

Pre-fair discount tickets are 15 dollars for all ages. Regular gate admission at the State Fairgrounds is 18 dollars for ages 13 to 64 and 16 dollars for seniors and ages 5 to 12. (St. Paul, MN) — Team officials say the Minnesota Wild Foundation distributed more than 1.3 million dollars through grants and Split the Pot Raffle proceeds to local charities this season. Nearly 600 thousand dollars in grants were awarded to organizations including the Children’s Minnesota Mental Health Foundation, Minnesota Youth Hockey Associations, Minnesota Hockey, and the American Indian Family Center. More than 700 thousand dollars in raffle proceeds were donated to 28 local nonprofits like the Autism Society of Minnesota, Children’s Cancer Research Fund, Special Olympics Minnesota, and Twin Cities Pride.

 

>>Minnesota Twins’ Correa Out of All-Star Game Tuesday Due to Heel Injury

(Arlington, TX) — Minnesota Twins fans watching the Major League Baseball All-Star Game tonight (Tues) will not see shortstop Carlos Correa on the field in Texas. Correa has been benched due to a right heel injury that has been diagnosed as plantar fasciitis. The injury also took him out of the last two games before the All-Star break. Utility man Willi Castro will represent Minnesota at the Mid-Summer Classic this evening. The Twins are 54-52 and currently have the number two American League Wild Card spot.
