(Milwaukee, WI) — Minnesota Congressman Tom Emmer is predicting that Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump is going to turn the state “red” in November. The 6th District congressman spoke at the Republican National Convention Tuesday and the theme was ” make America safe again.” Emmer blasted Democrats’ response to the riots in Minneapolis after the police killing of George Floyd and said, “Donald Trump stands with the people and the police, our men and women in blue — not with the criminals and the rioters!” During the Twin Cities riots, then-President Trump threatened to send in the military and later took credit for quieting the situation. Governor Tim Walz deployed the National Guard and his office says Trump had nothing to do with that decision. Democrats respond Trump supporters assaulted more than 140 police officers during the January 6th, 2021, attack on the U-S Capitol.

The Biden campaign has been hammering Trump confidants’ connections to Project 2025 and today is highlighting what it says are the former president and V-P running mate J-D Vance’s plan to ban abortion nationwide and threaten access to in-vitro fertilization and contraception. Walz, as chair of the Democratic Governor’s Association, has been a prominent voice for what Democrats term reproductive freedom, empowered by the 2022 election that gave D-F-Lers a “trifecta” at the Minnesota Legislature. Former President Trump in the debate with President Joe Biden defended the Supreme Court overturning Roe -v- Wade as putting the decision back in the hands of the states. Democrats counter that allows some states to totally ban abortion.

(St. Paul, MN) — The Minnesota D-N-R says the agency “vehemently rejects the use of violence, or insinuation of violence, in any form” in response to an employee’s social media comment on the Trump campaign rally shooting. The post on the D-N-R employee’s personal account reportedly said, “Too bad they weren’t a better shot.” D-N-R officials said in a statement, “The recent assassination attempt on former President Trump was a heinous act with tragic consequences.” They called the comment ” reprehensible” and inconsistent with the views and values of the Minnesota D-N-R and are thoroughly examining the matter.

(Minneapolis, MN) — A historic building that covers one square block in downtown Minneapolis is now known as The Paul D. Wellstone Federal Building. Minnesota Senators Amy Klobuchar and Tina Smith helped pass the bi-partisan bill renaming the Federal Building in honor of the late Senator Wellstone. They took part in a naming ceremony Tuesday with the Wellstone family and other friends and colleagues. The building houses the U-S Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the National Relations Board, and the Department of State Passport Agency. Senator Wellstone, his wife, daughter, three staff members, and two pilots died in a plane crash near Eveleth in October of 2002.
>>Teenage Girl Dies in Hospital from Injuries Suffered in Minneapolis Shooting
(Minneapolis, MN) — Police say a 17-year-old girl died in the hospital after a shooting in north Minneapolis on July 7th. Officers found Lonnaya Warren-Loyd with a potentially life-threatening gunshot wound and she was taken North Memorial Hospital. Investigators were notified on Friday that Warren-Loyd did not survive her injuries. A 30-year-old man with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds was taken to the hospital by private vehicle. Warren-Loyd was sitting in the man’s vehicle in a parking lot when she was shot. No arrests have been made.

(Minneapolis, MN) — A St. Paul man is awaiting a federal prison sentence for the armed robbery of a tobacco store in February. The U-S Attorney’s Office says 33-year-old Derrick Powell pointed a semi-automatic handgun at the clerk and fled the store with 810 dollars in cash and several packs of cigarettes. Powell pleaded guilty Tuesday to one count of Hobbs Act robbery. His sentencing hearing hasn’t been scheduled.

(Arlington, TX) — Minnesota Twins utility man Willi Castro is celebrating the American League’s 5-3 victory over the National League in the M-L-B All-Star Game in Texas. Castro pinch hit in the bottom of the eighth inning and grounded out in his lone at-bat in his first All-Star appearance Tuesday night. Castro told reporters that he collected a bag full of memorabilia and kept his name card from above his locker at Globe Life Field. Twins shortstop Carlos Correa was in Texas for the Mid-Summer Classic but didn’t play due to a foot injury. Minnesota returns to action Saturday against the Brewers at Target Field.
