>>Office of Cannabis Management Prepares for 2nd Retail License Lottery
(St. Paul, MN) — Seventy-five cannabis businesses in Minnesota will be selected for retailer licenses Tuesday in the state’s second lottery. The Office of Cannabis Management’s Jim Walker says retailers awarded this license will be able to sell cannabis plants, seedlings, adult-use cannabis flower, lower potency edibles and drinks, and buy cannabis products from other licensed businesses then resell them. He says social equity applicants rejected in the first lottery will be competing with general applicants for this round. The numbers of the winners will be picked using a Smartplay digital lottery drawing system.

(Minneapolis, MN) — The Minneapolis Democratic-Farmer-Labor party is endorsing a candidate for mayor for the first time in 16 years and it is not incumbent Mayor Jacob Frey. State Senator Omar Fateh won the D-F-L endorsement at the convention on Saturday night. Fateh said on social media, “This endorsement is a message that Minneapolis residents are done with broken promises, vetoes, and politics as usual. It’s a mandate to build a city that works for all of us.” A statement from Frey’s campaign said ,”the election should be decided by the entire city rather than a small group of people who became delegates.”

(Big Lake, MN) — Authorities in Sherburne County are investigating the death of a six-month-old child in Big Lake. First responders were called to a home Friday morning on the report of an infant unresponsive and not breathing. Officers say paramedics attempted life-saving measures, but the child died at the scene. The Big Lake Police Department says several agencies are conducting a “thorough and comprehensive” investigation. No other information is being released.

Officials say Crew Leader Brent Althoff died over the weekend after a long and hard-fought battle with cancer. >>Ground Search Suspended for Missing Silver Bay Man
(Lutsen, MN) — The Cook County Sheriff’s Office is suspending ground searches for a missing man from northeastern Minnesota. Forty-year-old Gene Doherty was last seen July 1st near Silver Bay. His S-U-V was found ten days later in the Superior National Forest. Search teams have focused on Cascade Lake, where a scent dog picked up his trail. Crews have used sonar and boats to look for Doherty, but with no new leads and tough terrain, ground efforts are now on hold. Deputies say daily searches will continue tomorrow (Tues) through July.

(Hinckley, MN) — A ten-year-old bicyclist is recovering from injuries suffered in an accident Saturday afternoon in Hinckley. The Minnesota State Patrol says the boy was riding on a sidewalk when contact was made with a minivan leaving a gas station. Troopers say the boy was taken to Essentia Hospital in Duluth for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The report shows alcohol was not involved and roads were dry at the time.

(Jackson, MN) — The RAGBRAI recreational bicycle tour is stopping in Minnesota today (Mon) for the first time in its 52-year history. RAGBRAI stands for the “Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa.” The ride began in 1973 as a challenge by employees of the Des Moines Register newspaper. Today’s visit to Brown Park South in Jackson County will be the first time a community outside of Iowa hosted a RAGBRAI event. There will be food and beverages, live music, activities and more at the southwest Minnesota stop.

(Falcon Heights, MN) — The 2025 Minnesota State Fair Amateur Contest begins tonight (Mon 5:30pm) with the first auditions on the Bandshell stage. Entertainment supervisor Shannon Buchda says all these acts are competing for a spot in the next round. She says all the results will be tabulated and the acts with the highest scores move on to the semifinals the first ten nights of the fair. She says fans of the State Fair Amateur Talent Contest show up and root for the contestants. The auditions run today through Sunday on the State Fairgrounds.

(Denver, CO) — The Twins used the long ball to beat the Rockies 7-1 in the series finale Sunday afternoon in Denver. Royce Lewis hit a pair of home runs, Matt Wallner had a two-run shot, and Harrison Bader added a solo homer for Minnesota. All-Star Joe Ryan pitched seven innings of one run ball and struck out 11 for his 10th win of the season. The Twins open a three-game series tonight (Mon 9:10pm) at the Los Angeles Dodgers.
