(St. Paul, MN) — New Minnesota Supreme Court Associate Justice Sarah Hennesy will officially take the oath of office this afternoon (Thurs 3:30pm) in St. Paul. Governor Tim Walz and other dignitaries are scheduled to attend the investiture ceremony for Justice Hennesy. She was previously the chief judge of the Seventh Judicial District in Stearns County. Walz said Hennesy’s experience working in greater Minnesota will benefit the Supreme Court. She is replacing Justice G. Barry Anderson who retired in May.

(St. Cloud, MN) — St. Cloud will be thrust into the national political spotlight Saturday when former President Donald Trump and vice presidential running mate J-D Vance come to Minnesota. Mayor David Kleis (KLICE) says security will be a coordinated effort among several law enforcement agencies, and the city will be billing the Trump campaign for the added expenses. He says his office did not have a lot of advance notice before Tuesday’s announcement about the rally at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center. The mayor expects the Secret Service to temporarily closed many roads in the area.

(St. Paul, MN) — The public comment period is closed on the D-E-A’s proposal to reclassify cannabis as a schedule III substance and local advocates are awaiting a final decision. Frank Ongaro of the Minnesota Marijuana Association (MMA) says they submitted a draft comment highlighting the experience that Minnesota has already had for medical cannabis, backing up what the Department of Health and Human Service has already concluded that it’s an accepted use for treatment. Ongaro says they argued that cannabis can be grown and manufactured in a safe way and should no longer be a schedule I controlled substance. That category includes drugs like heroin, L-S-D, ecstasy and peyote. He says making it a schedule III substance would make it “less problematic” for cannabis businesses to operate.

(Washington, DC) — Sixth District Congressman Tom Emmer is being honored for his continued support of the Minnesota National Guard. His office says House Majority Whip Emmer has been awarded the Charles Dick Medal of Merit by the National Guard Association. The medal is awarded to state and federal lawmakers in great support of the National Guard. Since joining Congress in 2015, Emmer has worked to secure eight new C-130J transport planes to the Minnesota Air National Guard’s 133rd Airlift Wing, upgraded Army National Guard vehicles, and infrastructure.

(Lakeville, MN) — Second District Congresswoman Angie Craig says the Airlake Airport in Lakeville is getting a $155,000 in federal grant. She says the funding through the Airport Improvement Program will be used to install runway lighting, improve safety for takeoffs and landings, and increase airport traffic. Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC) C-E-O Brian Ryks (ricks) says the project will elevate the airport’s safety and efficiency at a time when business activity and demand for flight services are growing rapidly.
>>Rescue Crews in Montana Recover Body of Missing Minnesota College Student
(Cooke City, MT) — Authorities in Montana report finding the body of a college student from Minnesota who had been missing nearly two weeks. Red Lodge Fire Rescue says search crews spotted the body of Dylan Honnell of Rogers in East Rosebud Creek Tuesday and a helicopter team helped recover his body Wednesday morning. Investigators said Honnell fell into the rapids on the creek while hiking on July 12th. Twenty-year-old Honnell was a sophomore at Montana State University and a 2022 graduate of Rogers High School.

(Lino Lakes, MN) — The Minnesota B-C-A needs the public’s help finding a missing and endangered man from Lino Lakes. Officers say 61-year-old Thomas Biatek was last seen leaving his home around 10:30 am Wednesday to buy a battery and return to a waiting contractor. Biatek never returned, and the Apple air tag on his keys shows he went to Wyoming, then Princeton, and Onamia, where he bought fuel, and then headed back south on Highway 169. He is driving a 2020 turquoise blue Subaru Forester with MN license E-X-V-1-7-0. Biatek’s last known location was Milica.

(Mankato, MN) — The City of Mankato is requesting proposals in an open competition for artists to design and create original murals for the 2024 City Art On the Go traffic signal mural project. The multi-year initiative is in its third phase of enhancing city aesthetics, increasing pedestrian traffic, and extending public art to new areas. The murals will be painted or printed and installed on vinyl wraps on four chosen traffic signal control cabinets at key intersections in downtown Mankato. (Blaine, MN) — The sixth annual 3-M Open tees off today (Thurs) at the T-P-C Twin Cities Course. Tournament director Mike Welch says they’re expecting 13 thousand to 18 thousand fans per day for the P-G-A Tour event in Minnesota. He says 37 of the top 70 golfers in the world are playing in Blaine this week. Defending champion Lee Hodges and 2022 winner Tony Finau are among the 156-player field. Welch says there are still tickets available for all four days of the 3-M Open.
