>>Minnesota Supreme Court Justice Hennesy Sworn in at Investiture Ceremony

(St. Paul, MN) — Minnesota Supreme Court Associate Justice Sarah Hennesy was officially sworn in Thursday during an investiture Ceremony in St. Paul. Chief Justice Natalie Hudson said Justice Hennesy brings to the high court, “her ability to listen, empathize, and engage thoughtfully with her colleagues will help us navigate the complexities of our legal system with greater insight and understanding. ” Hennesy said she was originally going to become a minister before a college mentor urged her to try law school, so she could develop the cognitive skills needed to get out of a dark place. Hennesy was previously the chief judge of the Seventh Judicial District in Stearns County. She replaced Justice G. Barry Anderson who retired in May.

 

>>Local Economist Calls 2.8 % GDP Growth in 2nd Quarter “Good News”

(St. Cloud, MN) — New numbers suggest the U-S economy is growing at a faster pace than analysts were predicting. St Cloud State University Economics Professor King Banaian  says the second-quarter data from the Bureau of Economic Analysis was a bit of a surprise. He says, ” a 2.8 percent growth rate is above what we would normally expect for G-D-P in the 21st century. That’s good news.” Banaian says Americans were spending more on health care, housing and utilities, and recreation in the second quarter.

 

>>MDH Confirms 3 Measles Cases in Twin Cities Children

(St. Paul, MN) — The Minnesota Department of Health is confirming three measles cases in unvaccinated children this week in Anoka, Hennepin, and Ramsey counties. One case was confirmed Monday, the other two on Thursday and say two of the kids needed hospitalization. Officials warn initial symptoms include high fever, cough, runny nose, and watery eyes, followed by a rash that typically spreads from the head to the rest of the body. Minnesota has confirmed 15 measles cases this year, an increase compared to other years.

 

>>Construction Worker Killed in Waite Park Crane Accident

(Waite Park, MN) — Authorities in Stearns County say a Sartell man is the victim of a fatal workplace accident in Waite Park. Police say a large crane was being assembled Tuesday when it fell from an elevated workstation and struck 38-year-old Dylan Barthel, pinning him underneath. Officers say Barthel died at the scene. The medical examiner determined that Barthel died of multiple blunt force injuries. Minnesota OSHA  was called in to investigate.

 

>>1 Dead, 1 Arrested after Shooting in Moorhead Parking Lot

(Moorhead, MN) — Police in Moorhead say a suspect is under arrest after a deadly shooting Wednesday morning in a parking lot. Officers say 37-year-old Frank Torres was shot in the head and taken to the hospital where he died of his injuries. Investigators say 35-year-old Jamal Ahmed was taken into custody by the Red River SWAT team and is facing a second-degree murder charge. Authorities are still looking for the pistol believed to be used in the shooting.

 

>>Suspect Charged in Fatal North Mankato Shooting

(North Mankato, MN) — A man is jailed on second-degree murder, assault and firearms charges in connection with a shooting in North Mankato. Nicollet County authorities say 41-year-old Dominic Ellen is accused of fatally shooting 27-year-old John Lutgen-Bernatz late Tuesday morning. The medical examiner determined Lutgen-Bernatz died of multiple gunshot wounds. The charges indicate the gun used in the alleged shooting did not have a serial number. Ellen remains in custody.

 

>>Meeker County Man Suffers Severe Burns in Brush Pile Fire

(Dassel, MN) — A man from Winsted is being treated at the H-C-M-C Burn Center after a fire in a brush pile Thursday afternoon near Dassel. The Meeker County Sheriff’s Office says the 53-year-old victim was attempting to burn yard debris using an accelerant when the fire came back on him. Deputies say he suffered severe burns over a significant portion of his body. Investigators say the fire appears to have been an accident.

 

>>Golden Valley Man Pleads Guilty to Possessing 2K Fentanyl Pills

(Minneapolis, MN) — Federal prosecutors say a Golden Valley man is pleading guilty to possessing more than two thousand fentanyl pills with the intent to distribute. Court documents say 33-year-old Mason Rosenblatt was the sole occupant of a St. Louis Park hotel room during a search by law enforcement in February. Authorities seized a total of two-thousand-27 fentanyl pills from the hotel room. Rosenblatt’s sentencing hearing will be scheduled later.

 

>>Bridgeman is First-Round Leader at PGA’s 3-M Open in Blaine

(Blaine, MN) — Jacob Bridgeman is the first-round leader at the 3-M Open after shooting an eight-under-par 63 at the T-P-C Twin Cities Course. Mackenzie Hughes is second on the leaderboard at seven under par and three players are tied at six under. Sahith Theegala is three shots off the lead following a five-under-par 66 on Thursday and 2022 3-M Open champ Tony Finau is one of ten golfers at four under. The second round gets underway this morning (Fri) in Blaine.
