(St. Paul, MN) — Minnesota has a new two-year state budget this morning (Tues) but not without painful votes over undocumented health insurance. D-F-L House Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman voted against her party to eliminate the health insurance for illegal immigrants. Hortman said, “I know people will be hurt by that vote. I did what leaders do, and I got the job done for the people of Minnesota.” Republican House Speaker Lisa Demuth said the decision was good for Minnesotans and their tax dollars. Demuth says a compromise will keep undocumented children on MinnesotaCare until age 18. Governor Walz has said he won’t veto the measure and will sign the budget agreement.

(St. Paul, MN) — A new jobs and labor workforce budget bill passed in special session and is heading to Governor Walz for his signature. The House approved the bill 96 to 37 while the count was 40 to 27 in the Senate. It provides funding for the Department of Employment and Economic Development, Department of Labor and Industry, and Explore Minnesota. It also extends unemployment benefits to 630 laid-off miners on the Iron Range for an extra 26 weeks. The legislation also earmarks $5 million dollars for the World Hockey Juniors tournament coming to St. Paul in December.

(Hastings, MN) — Two 18-year-olds are now charged in a shooting incident last Friday night after the Burnsville High School graduation ceremony. Dakota County prosecutors say Abdikani Abdiwahab of Bloomington is jailed on two counts of drive-by shooting and two counts of aiding an offender and Abdulahi Ali of Shakopee is charged with drive-by shooting and second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon. Police broke up several physical altercations before shots were fired on the west side of the school. Officers say Abdiwahab and Ali were located in a vehicle and a handgun with extended magazine was found under the front passenger seat. No one was injured in the shootings.

(Minneapolis, MN) — Minneapolis Assistant Police Chief Katie Blackwell is reminding officers of their place when it comes to ICE-related affairs. This comes after two federal raids on restaurants in Minneapolis and Bloomington last week, resulting in mixed information from officers on-site to the public. M-P-D told people it was a criminal search for drugs and money laundering when it was immigration enforcement. Blackwell sent a memo on Friday saying the Department is not to engage in ICE-related activity, including relevant crowd control or removal of people, and noted, “Our role is focused on addressing criminal activity and maintaining public safety, while respecting boundaries set by city ordinance and department policy.”

(St. Paul, MN) — Hundreds of veterans are expected at C-H-S Field in St. Paul today (Tues) for the third annual ‘Summer Salute.’ Jon Lovald of the Minnesota Assistance Council for Veterans (MAC-V) says it’s a one-day effort to provide services and support to homeless and at-risk veterans. He says it could be food security, a medical checkup, or legal services that are needed. Lovald says they have everything in one site so a veteran can walk from one service to the next. There’s also a job fair, V-A benefit support, a free lunch, and free haircuts.
>>19-Year-Old Airlifted to Hospital after Douglas County Crash
(Douglas County, MN) — Drugs or alcohol impairment are not believed to be factors after a 19-year-old man crashed into a field in Douglas County. Deputies say Reilly McCormick of Miltona was airlifted to a hospital for medical treatment. McCormick was driving a pickup truck towing an empty flatbed trailer when he left the road, entered a shoulder, and rode through a southbound ditch into a field. McCormick was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. His current condition is unknown.

(Hoyt Lakes, MN) — St. Louis County authorities say an A-T-V driver sustained reduced injuries in a rollover crash near Hoyt Lakes thanks to wearing a helmet. Deputies say the driver was taken to the hospital by private vehicle. Investigators believe the driver was rounding a corner on a trail when the four-wheeler rolled over. Officials encourage wearing helmets and other protective gear when riding A-T-Vs.

(St. Paul, MN) — A-T-V riders can explore riding opportunities across Minnesota for free this weekend. Joe Unger with the D-N-R Off-highway vehicle program says “No Registration Weekend” is June 14th and 15th. Unger says it gives people who don’t have A-T-Vs registered the chance to use the states trails. He says there’s trails available all over the state for riders of all experience levels. (Minneapolis, MN) — The Minnesota Twins open a three-game series against the Texas Rangers tonight (Tues 6:40pm) at Target Field. Minnesota topped the Toronto Blue Jays 6-3 in the series finale Sunday after dropping the first two games. The 35-and-30 Twins are in second place in the American League Central. The team has not announced tonight’s starting pitcher. Ex-Twins righthander Tyler Mahle is on the mound for 31-and-35 Rangers. Mahle is 5-and-2 with a 2.02 E-R-A and 53 strikeouts for Texas this season.
