(Washington, DC) — U-S Senator Amy Klobuchar and several Democratic governors are warning about the effects the Trump budget bill would have on states. Klobuchar says, “this big beautiful betrayal of a bill would take food assistance away from four million Americans, including one million seniors, 800-thousand parents with school-aged children, and 1.4 million people who live where it’s hard to find a job.” The Minnesota Democrat also claims grocery prices would rise, and farmers could see less of the money in their budgets. Klobuchar says Minnesota lawmakers will have to come back and make cuts if the Republicans’ budget bill passes in Washington.

(Rochester, MN) — Officials in the Rochester area are urging Congress to reconsider proposed cuts to Medicaid in the budget reconciliation bill. The Olmsted County Board of Commissioners sent a letter expressing concern to President Trump and Minnesota’s congressional delegation. It says 16 thousand children in the county were granted access to health care through Medicaid last year. Leaders also say they don’t have the staffing to ensure Medicaid recipients are meeting proposed work requirements every six months.

(Chanhassen, MN) — The National Weather Service is looking into least a half dozen tornado reports in southern and southeastern Minnesota. Meteorologist Tyler Hasenstein says rotation was first spotted Wednesday near Alden and Hartland in Freeborn County. He says they were receiving tornado reports for about an hour from weather spotters and storm chasers in the area. There were also reports of tornadoes on the ground in Zumbro Falls, Lake City, Bratsberg and Hokah in southeastern Minnesota. He says there was some damage to farm outbuildings in the Hartland area. No injuries are reported from these storms. Parts of Yellow Medicine, Renville and Kandiyohi counties received three to five inches of rain and heavy rainfall caused flash flooding in the Twin Cities.

(Minneapolis, MN) — The 11-year-old boy fatally shot Monday in north Minneapolis is being identified as Amir Atkins. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office says Atkins died of a gunshot wound to the head. Police said Amir and another boy were near the entrance to Folwell Park when several vehicles drove by and shots fired. Investigators are still searching for the shooter.

(Elk River, MN) — After pleading guilty this month to stabbing his mother in April 2024, an Elk River man faces over nine years in prison. Thirty-four-year-old Anthony Weidner made a deal on June 10th, pleading guilty to first-degree assault and the court dropped two counts of attempted murder and another count of assault at sentencing. Elk River police say Weidner stabbed his mother than fled in her husband’s truck. The woman was airlifted to a hospital for her injuries. Officers say Weidner admitted he intended to kill her.

(Todd County, MN) — The Todd County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help finding a missing 14-year-old boy. Bryent Jones was last seen around 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday in a 2016 white Chevrolet Tahoe with Minnesota license plate H-M-L-9-5-0 heading south from Rogers in the northwest metro. He’s described as white, five feet ten inches tall, weighs about 170 pounds and has brown hair and blue eyes.

(Brooklyn, NY) -– The Minnesota Timberwolves used the 17th overall pick in the N-B-A Draft on a six-foot-11-inch center from France. Eighteen-year-old Joan Beringer averaged 5.1 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.4 blocks in Slovenia this past season. Beringer played for France at the 2023 FIBA U-18 European Championship. He’s seen as a rim protector and a mobile big man who can run the pick-and-roll. The Wolves have the first selection in second round of the draft tonight (Thurs 7pm) which is number 31 overall.

(Minneapolis, MN) — The Minnesota Twins shut out the Seattle Mariners 2-0 at Target Field Wednesday night to snap a five-game losing streak. Joe Ryan pitched six scoreless innings and struck out eight batters for his eighth win of the season. Willi Castro hit the go-ahead R-B-I single in the sixth inning and Kody Clemens added a solo homer in the seventh. The Twins and Mariners play the series finale this afternoon (Thurs 12:10pm) in downtown Minneapolis.
