>>Minnesota House Bill Would Legalize Psilocybin for Therapeutical Use

(St. Paul, MN) — A bill at the State Capitol would legalize psilocybin-assisted therapy for medical use only.  Army Veteran Stefan Egan says the psychedelic mushroom treatment saved his life after five combat deployments left him with severe physical and mental trauma.  Egan told lawmakers he used psilocybin therapeutically – though illegally – after traditional V-A and Army protocols failed him.  Several veterans testified in support of the proposal. The bill has cleared its first stop and now heads to the House Commerce Finance and Policy Committee.

 

>>Bill to Legalize Sports Betting Introduced in Minnesota Senate

(St. Paul, MN) —  A bipartisan bill introduced in the Minnesota Senate would legalize sports betting in the state.     Senator Nick Frentz of North Mankato says prediction markets are now legal and going on in all 50 states. Frentz says, “There is a significant amount of betting on sports in Minnesota right now, but it is unregulated, it is untaxed, it is not providing any help to us as a state.   His bill would allow sports betting at the casinos and tracks – and on mobile devices.   The co-sponsors are Republican Senators Jeremy Miller of Winona, Julia Coleman from Waconia, and Eric Pratt of Prior Lake.

 

>>Homeless Day on the Hill at State Capitol

(St. Paul, MN) —  Around 500 people are expected at the Homeless Day on the Hill today (Wed) at the State Capitol.  Matt Traynor of the Minnesota Coalition for the Homeless says this is the largest day of advocacy exclusively dedicated to ending homelessness.   He says it’s an opportunity to meet in community and visit with Minnesota lawmakers.  They are seeking 40-million dollars in state funding for supportive housing programs across Minnesota.

 

>>MIRAC to Call for Sanctuary Executive Order at Walz’s Office

(St. Paul, MN) —   The Minnesota Immigrant Rights Action Committee is urging Governor Tim Walz to declare Minnesota a sanctuary state.   They will be protesting outside the governor’s office today (Wed 12:30), calling on him to issue an executive order.  Leaders say they remain concerned about what federal officials previously described as “unprecedented cooperation” between ICE and local agencies as Operation Metro Surge ended.   The group’s demands include banning 287(g) agreements, restricting information sharing between local jails and federal immigration authorities, and prohibiting immigration enforcement on state property, and at schools and hospitals.

 

>>US Commission on Civil Rights Chair Hears Testimony on ICE Tactics

(St. Paul, MN)  —  The chair of the U-S Commission on Civil Rights is hearing complaints about ICE tactics in Minnesota.   On Tuesday, Rochelle Garza listened to  testimony on the use of force by federal agents, the detainment and treatment of protesters and the deaths of two citizens.   Garza heard about what they experienced during the nation’s largest federal immigration enforcement action.  Others described unchecked racial discrimination, weaponization of detention, and lack of any accountability mechanism or remedy.  The Minnesota Attorney General’s Office is also collecting reports about federal actions.

 

>>Uninsured Rate Rises in Minnesota

(St. Paul, MN)   —   The Minnesota Department of Health is reporting an increase in the number of uninsured people in the state.   Data from the latest Minnesota Health Access Survey show the uninsured rate increased from 3.8 percent in 2023 to 5.8 percent last year.   That means around 116 thousand more Minnesotans do not have health insurance.  It is the highest uninsured rate since 2017 and reverses years of improvement.   Officials say that rate could rise even higher this year after Congress failed to renew Affordable Care Act premium subsidies.

 

>>US Small Business Administration Names New Minnesota Director

(Minneapolis, MN) — Tim Green is the new Minnesota District director for the U-S Small Business Administration.   Green joined the S-B-A in 2019, most recently serving as deputy associate administrator in the Office of Veterans Business Development.   Before that, he led outreach for the Department of Labor’s Veterans Employment and Training Service following a 28-year career in the U-S Air Force, retiring as a colonel.   Green replaces former Minnesota District Director Brian McDonald.

 

>>Minnesota Wild Shut Out Utah Mammoth in St. Paul

(St. Paul, MN) — Goaltender Filip Gustavsson stopped all 25 shots in the Minnesota Wild’s 5-0 win over the Utah Mammoth last night in St. Paul.  It was Gustavsson’s fourth shutout of the season.    Kirill Kaprizov, Matt Boldy, Bobby Brink, Danila Yurov, and Ryan Hartman scored for Minnesota.   Minnetonka native Brink lit the lamp for the first time in a Wild sweater.  Minnesota stopped a five-game losing streak to Utah.   The Flyers visit Grand Casino Arena on Thursday night.

 

>>Girls State High School Basketball Tournament Begins at U of M

(Minneapolis, MN) — The 2026 Minnesota Girls State High School Basketball Tournament starts today (Wed) on the U of M campus.  The Class 4-A, 3-A, 2-A, and 1-A quarterfinals are being played at Williams Arena and the Maturi Pavilion.   Three of last year’s four defending champions are back with a shot to repeat: Hopkins, Benilde-St. Margaret’s, and Providence Academy.
