>>Snowstorm Winding Down in Northern, Northeastern Minnesota

(Duluth, MN) — The snowstorm that moved across northern Minnesota last night and early this morning is winding down.   Duluth National Weather Service Meteorologist Lee Britt says there is still a lot of wrap-around moisture.  He says we’ll see some snowfall rates of maybe half-an-inch to three-quarters of an inch of per hour.   The heavy band of snow that moved through last night was producing two to two-and-a-half inch per hour rates.   The snow total in Duluth is eight inches so far.  Moose Lake is also reporting eight inches and around two inches has fallen in Chisago County.   There are strong wind gusts statewide this morning.

 

>>Minnesota Senate Judiciary Committee Discussing 18 Gun Safety Bills

(St. Paul, MN) — The Minnesota Senate Judiciary Committee is discussing 18 bills this morning (Fri) and most of them are anti-gun violence prevention legislation.  This includes a Democrat-led proposal to ban assault rifles and high-capacity magazines.  Testifiers are expected to include victims’ families, gun violence prevention groups,  and those who defend their rights to carry guns.   A rally is planned inside the Capitol Rotunda that will include survivors and parents from Annunciation Catholic School and Minnesota lawmakers who will reflect on the life of Melissa Hortman.

 

>>Community Solar Garden Program Honors Fallen Speaker Hortman

(St. Paul, MN) — Another honor could soon be coming for late House Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman. The Minnesota House unanimously passed a bill to rename the Community Solar Garden Program after Hortman. In 2013 while serving as the Energy Committee chair, Hortman authored the law establishing the program and setting the state’s solar standard. This was a key part to Minnesota’s 100 percent Clean Energy by 2040 goal. This bill was authored by the current House Energy Committee co-chair Patty Acomb of Minnetonka.

 

>>House Tax Committee Debates Expanding Property Tax Relief Credit

(St. Paul, MN) —  The House tax committee is considering a DFL-authored bill that would expand property tax relief to Minnesotans who see their property taxes rise by six percent, down from the current 12 percent threshold.   Supporters say the change would provide direct relief to homeowners without shifting the tax burden. Re publicans argue rising property taxes are driven by state mandates, while DFLers point to a lack of housing supply as a core issue.  The bill was laid over for possible inclusion in an omnibus package.

 

>>House Passes Bill Not Allowing Public to see Medicaid Fraud Report

(St. Paul, MN) — Lawmakers could soon get more information from the Optum report which was used to uncover fraud in the 14 highest-risk areas of Medicaid services, but you may not see it.  The House passed a bill to provide full transparency to themselves.   Republican Representative Drew Roach of Farmington voted “no” and told members, “I am vehemently against this. This is a taxpayer funded report that the taxpayers should be able to see.”   Republican House Floor Leader Harry Niska voted for the bill, saying, “We can’t fix vulnerabilities we’re not allowed to see and that’s why this report should never have been redacted in the first place. The bill passed 107-27 and is now heading to the Senate.

 

>>BCA Fixes Error That Made Some Criminal Records Public

(St. Paul, MN) — The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) says a technical error allowed some criminal history records to appear on the state’s public website when they should not have been accessible.  Officials say the issue stemmed from the Minnesota Criminal History System failing to recognize the most recent updates on certain files.   As a result, records for 595 people were viewable for varying lengths of time, and some vendors also received the data in bulk requests.   The B-C-A says the problem has been fully corrected, with the fix implemented on February 25th after about a month of analysis and testing.

 

>>Women’s Agricultural Leadership Conference at Landscape Arboretum

(Chaska, MN)  —  Ag leaders from across the region will gather March 31st for the Women’s Agricultural Leadership Conference at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum.  Now in its 28th year, the conference focuses on developing and supporting women in agriculture, with this year’s theme, Local Leadership: Global Impact.  The event also celebrates the declaration of 2026 as the International Year of the Woman Farmer, recognizing the vital role women play in production agriculture.  The day includes panel discussions, breakout sessions on current ag issues, and recognition of Outstanding Agriculture Mentors.

 

>>Minnesota Wild Fall to Philadelphia Flyers in Shootout

(St. Paul, MN) —  The Minnesota Wild fell to the Philadelphia Flyers 3-2 in a shootout Thursday night in St. Paul.   Matt Boldy and Kirill Kaprizov scored Minnesota’s goals.    The Flyers’ Travis Konecny scored the only shootout goal for the win.  Jesper Wallstedt made 24 saves.  The Wild earn one point and are 1-0-1 to open the four-game homestand. The Rangers come to Grand Casino Arena on Saturday and Minnesota wraps up the homestand Sunday against the Maple Leafs.

 

>>Minnesota Vikings Introduce New Quarterback Kyler Murray

(Eagan, MN) —  Former Arizona Cardinals Pro Bowl quarterback Kyler Murray is now a Minnesota Viking.    The team introduced 28-year-old Murray on Thursday afternoon in Eagan.  Murray said, ” I’m just grateful for the opportunity. I look forward to coming in and competing, getting to learn the offense, getting to be with coach Kevin O’Connell, obviously he’s had  a lot of success. Murray doesn’t expect to be named the starting quarterback.  He says he’s been a Vikings fan since he was seven years old.
