>>Pilot Killed in Brooklyn Park Plane Crash Believed to be US Bank Executive Dolan

(Brooklyn Park, MN) — The pilot killed in a plane crash Saturday in Brooklyn Park is believed to be U-S Bank chief administration officer Terry Dolan.  N-T-S-B investigator Tim Sorensen told reporters the preliminary information says there was one individual onboard but would not confirm the victim’s identity.  The Hennepin County medical examiner will make the official identification of the pilot.  F-A-A records show the single-plane left Naples, Florida, stopped in Des Moines, Iowa, and on was on its way to the Anoka County Airport when it crashed into a Brooklyn Park home.  The house was destroyed in the explosion and fire, but a man inside made it out safely.  His wife said that she was out walking the dog when the plane crashed through their roof.

 

>>U of M Officials Concerned About ICE Detaining Graduate Student

(Minneapolis, MN) — University of Minnesota administrators say they are deeply concerned about U-S Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Agents detaining a graduate student.  U of M President Rebecca Cunningham told students the university “had no prior knowledge of the incident and shared no information with federal authorities” before the student was detained on Thursday.  School officials say they’re investigating and taking steps to get students connected to resources and support.  Governor Tim Walz reportedly talked to Homeland Security about the situation.

 

>>State Central Committee Elects Carlbom as New Minnesota DFL Chair

(Edina, MN) — Richard Carlbom is new chair of the Minnesota Democratic Farmer Labor Party.  The State Central Committee elected Governor Walz’s deputy chief of staff as D-F-L chair at its weekend business meeting Edina.  Carlbom replaces longtime D-F-L Chairman Ken Martin, who is the new chair of the Democratic National Committee (DNC).  Carlbom is the former mayor of St. Joseph and led the campaign to defeat the 2012 constitutional amendment that would have banned same-sex marriage.

 

>>Officers Find Person Dead During Welfare Check in Eveleth

(Eveleth, MN) — The Minnesota B-C-A is helping police on the Iron Range with a death investigation.  Officers in Eveleth were doing a welfare check Sunday morning when they found a person dead inside a home.  The police chief said due to the circumstance, the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension B-C-A was called in to assist with the death investigation and scene processing.  No other information is being released.

 

>>Skier Dies in Accident at Giant’s Ridge in Biwabik

(Biwabik, MN) — Authorities in northeastern Minnesota are investigating a skiing accident at Giant’s Ridge in Biwabik that left a 21-year-old man dead.  The Gilbert Police Department says Ski Patrol staff pulled the injured skier from the hillside Saturday and he was taken by ambulance to the hospital in Aurora.  Medical personnel tried to save him, but he did not survive.  The victim’s name hasn’t been released.

 

>>Man Shot in Hilltop Hospitalized in Critical Condition

(Hilltop, MN) — The Anoka County Sheriff’s Office says a man is in critical condition after being shot Saturday evening near Columbia Heights in Hilltop.  Officers were called to the report of gunshots and learned that a wounded man arrived at Unity Hospital in Fridley.  The victim was transported to another hospital for further treatment of critical injuries.  Investigators say no arrests have been made and there is no known threat to the community.

 

>>Federal Prison Nurse Indicted for Sexually Abusing an Inmate in Rochester

(Minneapolis, MN) — A federal indictment charges a prison nurse in Rochester with having abusive sexual conduct with an inmate.  Thirty-seven-year-old Jessica Larson worked for the Bureau of Prisons at the Federal Medical Center in Rochester.  Court documents say Larson began a romantic relationship with an inmate and the two exchanged sexually explicit letters and had a sexual encounter on April 3rd, 2024.  Larson falsely accused the inmate of sexual assault and threatened her children.  Two months after being placed on administrative leave, Larson drove 600 miles from Iowa to Cincinnati, Ohio to mail a love letter to the inmate who had been moved to another facility.  She’s due in federal court on April 9th.

 

>>2nd Quarter Fight Sparks Wolves’ Rally Past Pistons at Target Center

(Minneapolis, MN) — The Minnesota Timberwolves rallied past the Detroit Pistons 123-104 at Target Center Sunday night following a second-quarter fight that resulted in seven ejections.  The pushing and shoving began when Naz Reid was fouled and Donte DiVincenzo stepped in to help.  Reid, DiVincenzo, a Wolves assistant coach, three Detroit players, and head coach J-B Bickerstaff were ejected.  Minnesota trailed by ten points at the time and outscored the Pistons 38-23 in the third quarter.  Julius Randle led the Wolves with 26 points, Anthony Edwards scored 25, and Rudy Gobert had 19 points and 25 rebounds.

 

>>Minnesota Twins Swept by Cardinals to Open Season in St. Louis

(St. Louis, MO) — The Minnesota Twins are 0-and-3 after a 9-2 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals Sunday at Busch Stadium.  Starting pitcher Bailey Ober gave up eight runs over two-and-two-thirds innings to suffer his first loss.  Willi Castro homered for Minnesota in the series finale.  The Twins open a three-game series this afternoon (Mon 1:15pm) against the 1-and-2 White Sox in Chicago.

 

>>U of M Hockey Captain Snuggerud Signs with NHL Blues

(Minneapolis, MN) — University of Minnesota men’s hockey captain Jimmy Snuggerud is ending his time with the Golden Gophers.  The first-round draft pick signed a three-year entry level contract with N-H-L’s St. Louis Blues.  Snuggerud will bypass his final year of college eligibility.  He is a top 10 finalist for the Hobey Baker Memorial Award this year, leading the Gophers with 24 goals and 27 assists.
