>>Snowfalls Continues in Southern and Central Minnesota

(Chanhassen, MN) — The snow continues to fall this morning (Wed) in southern and central Minnesota. The southern and southeastern parts of the state remain under a blizzard warning through 3 pm. A winter weather advisory is in effect for eastern and central Minnesota areas until noon. The National Weather Service reports ten inches of snow near Woodbury in Washington County, eight-and-a-half in Apple Valley, seven-and-a-half inches near Kenyon in Goodhue County, six inches in Faribault, five inches at Afton, and about three inches at M-S-P Airport.

 

>>Craig Speaks Out Against Tariffs on Largest Trade Partners

(Washington, DC) — Congresswoman Angie Craig is speaking against the new import tariffs from Canada, Mexico, and China. The Minnesota Democrat told a House subcommittee Tuesday that farmers are worried trade fights will hurt their bottom line. Craig warned, “The tariffs on our largest trading partners that went into effect today will be devastating to this industry and to family paychecks across our nation.” Craig said a similar trade war under the first Trump administration cost U-S farmers nearly 30 billion dollars. President Trump defended the latest tariffs and said reciprocal tariffs are coming in April.

 

>> Minnesota Lawmakers to Announce New Bipartisan Housing Package

(St. Paul, MN) — Democrats and Republicans from the Minnesota House and Senate will meet today (Wednesday, 11 a.m.) to announce new housing legislation. It’s called the “Yes to Homes” package. The bills will support Minnesota communities in building and preserving affordable, locally appropriate housing and help renters and new homeowners across the state find homes that are right for them.

 

>>New Tool on Lead Tests on School and Childcare Drinking Water

(St. Paul, MN) — A new interactive map created by the Minnesota Department of Health shows how much lead, if any, has been detected in the drinking water at schools and licensed childcare centers. Of the first 190 schools and child care centers that have reported results to M-D-H, no lead was detected in 76 percent of the drinking water fixtures tested. Health officials say it’ll take about five years before every school and childcare center is shown on the map. Public and charter schools have reported lead levels in drinking water since 2017, but a new law requires childcare centers to test.

 

>>42nd Annual Duluth First Ship Contest Underway

(Duluth, MN) — Thousands of entries are coming in for the 42nd annual First Ship Contest on Lake Superior. Jayson Hron (ROAN) of the Duluth Seaway Port Authority says the goal is to accurately predict when the first ship of the season enters the city’s harbor. He says traditionally that first saltie, that first ocean-going arrival, marks the beginning of spring in the Port of Duluth-Superior. He says the Barbro G was the first saltie to reach Duluth in 2024, arriving early on April 1st. You can enter the contest at visitduluth.com through March 16th.

 

>>Bengal Cats from SeaQuest at Rosedale Taken to Wildcat Sanctuary in Sandstone

(Sandstone, MN) — Two Bengal cats from the now-closed SeaQuest location in Roseville are going to the Wildcat Sanctuary in Sandstone. Staff picked up six-year-olds Ferguson and Flynn at Rosedale Center on Tuesday and transported them back to the sanctuary. Executive Director Tammy Thies says many Bengal cats have health issues and poor litterbox habitats and, without our sanctuary, often face euthanasia. SeaQuest Roseville shut down following its parent company’s bankruptcy and violations of the Animal Welfare Act.

 

>>Teen Arrested in Fatal Columbia Heights Shooting

(Columbia Heights, MN) — A 16-year-old boy is in custody related to a fatal shooting in Columbia Heights last Friday night. Anoka County authorities say 20-year-old Faisal Dabarani of Minneapolis arrived at North Memorial Hospital with a gunshot wound and later died. The Anoka County Attorney’s Office says charges are pending against the teen.

 

>>3 Dead, 1 Arrested in Spirit Lake Reservation Shooting in North Dakota

(St. Michael, ND) — One person is in custody after three members of the Spirit Lake Tribe in North Dakota were killed Tuesday. Bureau of Indian Affairs law enforcement says a shooting happened around 9:30 a.m. A shelter-in-place was issued and has since been lifted. No other information is available.

 

>>Gopher Men’s Basketball Hosts Wisconsin in Final Regular Season Home Game

(Minneapolis, MN) — The Golden Gopher men’s basketball team plays its final regular season home game against 12th-ranked Wisconsin tonight (Wed 7:30 pm) at Williams Arena. Minnesota is coming off a 67-65 win at Nebraska on Saturday and improved to improve to 7-and-11 in the Big Ten. The Badgers lost at number eight Michigan State Sunday and are 12-and-6 in conference play. The Gophers finish the season Sunday at Rutgers.
