(St. Paul, MN) — Artificial intelligence will get its fair share of attention today (Mon) at the State Capitol. Four bills are expected to be introduced in the Senate Judiciary and Public Safety Committee. They would attempt to protect Minnesotans by regulating A-I for use in surveillance pricing, recreational chatbots for minors, and utilization review processes. The fourth bill would require companies to disclose when they use A-I in communicating with an individual. All four bills will be presented by D-F-L Senator Erin Maye Quade of Apple Valley.

(St. Paul, MN) — At least one political analyst thinks a bill to legalize sports betting in Minnesota has a shot of passing in an election year. Hamline University Professor David Schultz says leaders have pledged not to raise taxes and the state budget looks tight in the future. He says, “shortfalls especially in light of cuts in federal funding maybe that might be enough to move the legislature to say that we will sports gambling to some type of new revenue producer in the state of Minnesota That’s a possibility.” The first sports betting bill of the session was introduced in the Minnesota Senate last week. The Tax Foundation says the state could generate 46 million dollars in annual revenue from a legal market.
>>Apparent Murder-Suicide Investigated in International Falls
(International Falls, MN) — A man and woman are dead in an apparent murder-suicide in International Falls. Authorities say a Koochiching County sheriff’s deputy noticed a vehicle running in a driveway Friday morning. The deputy was aware of a protection order between the car’s owner and resident and attempted to contact the occupants. Officers then forced entry and found two people dead inside. They have been identified as 35-year-old Ashley Kittelson and 44-year-old Nicholas Kittelson. Investigators believe Ashley died of a gunshot wound and Nicholas turned the gun on himself.

(Golden Valley, MN) — A deadly house fire remains under investigation in Golden Valley. The home was fully engulfed in flames when crews arrived late Friday night. A man trapped in the basement was removed by firefighters but died at the scene. Officials say a woman and a Golden Valley police officer were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. No word yet on the cause of the fire.

(Willmar, MN) — An electric space heater is blamed for a fire that damaged part of the CentraCare Clinic in Willmar. Battalion Chief Jeff Gilbertson says crews arrived Friday night to find heavy black smoke coming from several offices and an exam room. The building’s sprinkler system helped contain the flames to part of that room, and firefighters quickly extinguished the remaining fire. Crews then ventilated the clinic and assisted with cleaning up water left behind by the sprinklers. The building and its contents sustained fire, smoke, and water damage. No injuries were reported.

(Eagan, MN) — Police in Eagan report a man is under arrest in connection with a deadly pedestrian hit-and-run crash. Officers say a 40-year-old woman was struck by a vehicle early Saturday and found unconscious and not breathing. She died of her injuries in the hospital. The suspect vehicle was located late Saturday night, and the driver was taken into custody. Investigators say he admitted to driving at the time of the crash.

(Orr, MN) — The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office says a 29-year-old man was killed Friday night after crashing his snowmobile. The crash happened on the Arrowhead Trail, about 25 miles north of Orr. Friends told authorities the man had been riding with their group but became separated at some point during the trip. They found him about an hour later lying near his snowmobile dead. Investigators say it appears the man failed to navigate a 90-degree turn and hit a tree.

(Minneapolis, MN) — Minneapolis police are investigating a shooting that left a man critically injured Saturday near Loring Park. Officers responded to an apartment building just before midnight and found a man with at least one potentially life-threatening gunshot wound. Police say officers performed life-saving measures before the victim was taken to a hospital. His condition is unknown. No arrests have been made.

(Crystal, MN) — Police in Crystal are looking for a missing juvenile boy. Benjamin May was last seen leaving a residential area on foot around 2:45 p.m Sunday. He’s described as Asian, five feet tall, weighs around110 pounds, and has black hair and brown eyes. Benjamin was last seen wearing a dark grey hoodie with “Minnesota Jays” on the front, black sweatpants, and grey Adidas shoes with orange stripes.

(St. Paul, MN) — The Minnesota Department of Agriculture is launching a new program to help farmers improve nitrogen fertilizer management. Research Scientist Jeppe Kjaersgaard (yah-buh key-us-gard)says using too much nitrogen-or applying it at the wrong time-can cause it to wash into groundwater or lakes, creating public health concerns and fueling algae growth. The program, available for the 2026 and 2027 growing seasons, offers farmers a $15-per-acre incentive to reduce commercial nitrogen use when they pair it with a qualifying biofertilizer. Farmers can enroll 40 to 3,000 acres in participating Minnesota counties. More information is available on the M-D-A website.

(Denver, CO) — The Minnesota Wild earned a point in a 3-2 shootout loss to the Avalanche Sunday in Denver. Colorado’s Nathan McKinnon scored the game-winner in the shootout. Kirill Kaprizov and Nico Sturm netted Minnesota’s two goals in the third period. Jesper Wallstedt stopped 34 saves in the loss. The Wild are back home Tuesday to host the Utah Mammoth.

(St. Paul, MN) — Tyden Bergeson of Moorhead High School is being honored as the 42nd annual Mr. Hockey Award winner. It goes to the outstanding senior hockey player in the state. Bryce Francisco of Hermantown received the Frank Brimsek Award for being the top senior goaltender in Minnesota. Brandon Mickelson of Moorhead was named the Reed Larson Award recipient as the state’s top senior defenseman. The Spuds topped Minnetonka 5-4 in double overtime Saturday night to win their second straight Class 2-A state championship. Warroad topped Hibbing-Chisholm 5-4 in O-T to claim the Class-A title.
