>>Still No Action on Gun Violence Prevention Package in Minnesota House

(St. Paul, MN) — This is the final week of the legislative session and it’s unknown whether the Minnesota House will take up a comprehensive gun violence prevention package. The legislation already passed the DFL-controlled Senate. Maggiy Emery of Protect Minnesota has a message for Republicans who appear to be blocking a vote. She said,”Look at your colleagues who were gunned down in their home. Look at the children who were shot to death while praying in a church. It’s not true that there’s nothing that we can do.” The Senate package includes a ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines – something House Republicans say they will not vote for.

 

>>Small Business Owners Rally at Capitol for Economic Relief

(St. Paul, MN) — Small Business Day at the State Capitol takes on new meaning this year. Small business owners and their advocates will gather at the Capitol today (Mon ) to push for legislation to provide relief following the ICE surge in Minnesota. The Senate has already passed a relief bill to provide 100 million dollars in forgivable loans to businesses that can prove they lost at least 30 percent of their revenue during the surge. The bill has stalled in the House. Small business owners will talk about the impact this has had on restaurants, grocery stores, and other businesses.

 

>>2nd District Democrats Endorse Matt Little for Congress

(Burnsville, MN) — Democratic delegates in Minnesota’s 2nd District are endorsing former state Senator and Lakeville Mayor Matt Little for Congress. Little won 63 percent of the vote at the D-F-L convention to beat state Representative Kaela Berg of Burnsville and Senator Matt Klein of Mendota Heights. Berg and Klein both say they still plan to compete in the August primary. Republicans endorsed state Senator Eric Pratt of Prior Lake for the seat of Democratic Congresswomanm Angie Craig. She’s running for U-S Senate.

 

>>SAVE Criticizes Big Tech Lawsuit Over State’s Social Media Law

(Bloomington, MN) — Minnesota nonprofit SAVE – Suicide Awareness Voices of Education- is criticizing a lawsuit filed by NetChoice challenging the state’s new social media warning label law, saying it allows Big Tech to avoid accountability for documented harms to children. C-E-O Erich Mische says the law is intended to inform families, comparing it to warning labels on cigarettes or alcohol. He said, “It has nothing to do with free speech. It is the same type of warning label that we would see on cigarettes or alcohol.” SAVE plans continue working with parents, youth, lawmakers, educators, and advocates to strengthen protections for children in the online environment.

 

>>Woman Driving SUV Shot and Wounded by Suspect in Another Vehicle in Fridley

(Fridley, MN) — Anoka County authorities are investigating a shooting in Fridley that left the female driver of an S-U-V in critical but stable condition. Police say the woman was driving near Interstate 694 and University Avenue Saturday night when someone in another vehicle shot her. The victim’s vehicle left the roadway and came to stop near the I-694 ramp. She was taken to the hospital and another woman in the S-U-V wasn’t hurt. No arrests have been made in the shooting. Anyone with information is asked to contact Anoka County dispatch.

 

>>Man Does Following ATV Pursuit in Becker County

(Detroit Lakes, MN) — A man is dead following an A-T-V pursuit in northwestern Minnesota. The Becker County Sheriff’s Office says a deputy spotted 47-year-old Michael Azure of White Earth riding an A-T-V Friday and knew his driving privileges had been canceled. Investigators say Azure fled from the deputy before abandoning the A-T-V south of White Earth and running into a wooded area. Deputies later found Azure unresponsive and began life-saving efforts, but he died at the scene. The cause of death remains under investigation.

 

>>Man and Woman Rescued After Canoe Capsizes in St. Louis County

(Duluth, MN) — Authorities in northeastern Minnesota say a man and a woman were rescued after their canoe capsized near a damn on Saturday. The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office says police were informed two people were in the water with life jackets after the capsize at the Island Lake Dam. . A 61-year-old woman from Duluth was pulled from the water by anglers who were fishing from the shore. Her canoeing partner, a 63-year-old man from Duluth, was pulled under the strong currents but was eventually able to get to shore.

 

>>Timberwolves Beat Spurs in Game 4 of Western Conference Semifinals

(Minneapolis, MN) — The Minnesota Timberwolves beat the San Antonio Spurs 114-109 last night at Target Center to even the Western Conference Semifinals at two games apiece. Anthony Edwards led Minnesota with 36 points, Naz Reid scored 15, and Jaden McDaniels added 14 points. The Wolves outscored the Spurs 34-25 in the fourth quarter. Center Victor Wembanyama was ejected in the second quarter for elbowing Reid in the throat. Game 5 is Tuesday night in San Antonio.
