(St. Paul, MN) — Governor Tim Walz is sending the National Guard to provide emergency assistance to help fight the Camp House fire and other wildfires in northeastern Minnesota. The executive order directs the Guard soldiers to assist the Minnesota Interagency Fire Center with personnel and resources. Walz says he’s grateful to the men and women of the National Guard for stepping up to this mission, and to all the state agencies working tirelessly to contain these fires and protect Minnesotans.

(Ault Township, MN) — Authorities in northeastern Minnesota say the Camp House wildfire near Brimson continues to grow and is now more than 1250 acres. The Jenkins Creek fire was first spotted on Monday south of Hoyt Lakes is already 15-hundred acres in size, and the Munger Shaw fire burning east of Cotton is at 13-hundred acres and growing. The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office reports more than 40 structures have already been destroyed. Evacuation orders are in place for all fires. Hot and windy conditions are expected again today (Tues) which will continue to hinder efforts to contain the wildfires. No injuries have been reported.

(Sleepy Eye, MN) — Investigators are ruling out foul play in a fire last Thursday in Sleepy Eye that injured six people, including four children. Police say 29-year-old Katie Rehbein (RAY’-bine) of Sleepy Eye and her three-year-old son were airlifted for extensive burns and smoke inhalation. They both remain in critical condition. Fifty-six-year-old Mindi Rehbein and three children ages 6, 8, and 11 brought to a hospital for further treatment. The cause of the fire is still unknown.

(Washington, DC) — Five fallen Minnesota officers will be remembered tonight (Tues 7pm) at the National Police Week candlelight vigil on the National Mall in Washington, D-C. Burnsville Deputy Chief Matt Smith is there to honor fellow Officers Paul Elmstrand and Matthew Ruge. Smith says it really hits you “heavy and hard” when you see Paul and Matt’s name etched into the National Peace Officer Memorial Wall. The names of Elmstrand and Ruge; Minneapolis Officer Jamal Mitchell; Voyageurs National Park Ranger Kevin Grossheim; and Red Lake Officer Jesse Branch will be read aloud during the vigil. The National Peace Officers’ Memorial Service is on Thursday at 11am.

(St. Paul, MN) — The Health, Children and Families Finance bill is latest to pass the Minnesota House. It provides funding for health care, child care and food shelves. Republican Danny Nadeau of Rogers told members, “there’s no funding for Minnesota Care in this bill. There’s no new taxes in this bill. There’s no planned approach for what may be coming our way from DC.” Democrat Carlie Kotyza Witthun of Eden Prairie says there’s about six million dollars for security food funding, improvements in our child welfare processes, and an additional one time $6 million in scholarship funding. The bill now heads to a conference committee to iron out the differences with the Senate version.
>>Woman Critically Injured in Robbinsdale Shooting Dies in Hospital
(Robbinsdale, MN) — Police in Robbinsdale say a 19-year-old woman who was shot in the head on May 4th did not survive. Officers say the victim died last night (Mon) at North Memorial Hospital. Authorities located the woman suffering from a gunshot wound in Sanborn Park. A man in his 20s showed up at Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park that night with serious injuries and was later transferred to H-C-M-C. Investigators say there were many people in the park at the time of the shooting, and they are looking for security camera video from the area.
>>Minneapolis Man Sentenced to Nearly 40 Years for Fatal Crystal Stabbing
(Crystal, MN) — A Minneapolis man is sentenced to nearly 40 years in prison for fatally stabbing 40-year-old Eddie Winters last year in Crystal. Police were tracking 38-year-old Larondo Willis for a separate investigation when they found Winters’ body inside a running vehicle. The autopsy determined Winters was stabbed 19 times. Willis was found guilty of second-degree intentional murder in April.

(St. Paul, MN) — Be on the lookout for deer this time of year in Minnesota. Office of Traffic Safety Director Mike Hanson says motorists should be on high alert for the next several weeks as deer become more active and does begin to look for places to give birth. Hanson says to avoid hitting a deer, eliminate distractions, drive at a safe speed, and scan the road ahead. He says if you do hit a deer, try to get your vehicle off the road and contact local law enforcement. If someone is hurt or the deer is in an active part of the road, call 9-1-1. Be especially cautious from 6 to 9pm, when deer are most active.

(San Francisco, CA) — The Timberwolves have a 3-1 series lead following a 117-110 win over the Warriors in Game 4 of the Western Conference Semifinals in San Francisco. Julius Randle led Minnesota with 31 points and Anthony Edwards scored 30 last night at the Chase Center. The Wolves used a 17-0 run in the third quarter to pull away from Golden State. They can clinch the best-of-seven series with a win in Game 5 tomorrow night (Wed) at Target Center.

(Baltimore, MD) — The Minnesota Twins look to extend their eight-game win streak in the series opener tonight (Tues 5:35 pm) in Baltimore. The Twins walked off the Giants 7-6 in 10 innings on Sunday to complete the series sweep. Minnesota just swept the Orioles in three games last week at Target Field. Simeon Woods Richardson gets the start tonight at Camden Yards against Baltimore lefthander Cade Povich.
