(St. Paul, MN) — Governor Tim Walz is scheduled to announce two appointments today (Tues 3pm) to the Minnesota Supreme Court. The governor needs to replace retiring Chief Justice Natalie Hudson and will name another associate justice to the state’s high court. A Walz spokesman says Associate Justices Anne McKeig, Paul Thissen and Theodora Gaïtas are among the finalists for chief justice. Judges Reynaldo Aligada, Elizabeth Bentley, Keala Ede, and Juanita Freeman are finalists for associate justice.

(St. Paul, MN) — The State Capitol is now quiet following the finish of the 94th legislative session, and there were wins and losses. Republicans and Democrats agree saving H-C-M-C, taking steps to fight fraud, property tax relief, and a reduction in vehicle license tabs were big successes. But gun safety legislation and helping Minnesotans and businesses recover from federal ICE operations went untouched. Now, Minnesotans will have the next decision when it comes to the elections. That will determine what the legislature looks like when it reconvenes on January 12th, 2027.

(Little Canada, MN) — State lawmakers approved a 1.2 billion-dollar infrastructure package but did not fulfill LIUNA Minnesota & North Dakota’s funding request to replace lead drinking water lines. Legislative director John Thorson says they were asking for 100 million dollars and received 15 million in the bonding bill to remove lead service lines. Thorson says the state has a goal of replacing 90 thousand lead lines by 2033, and this funding will only remove around 12 hundred pipes. Lawmakers invested 243 million dollars in the program when there was a budget surplus in 2023.

(Minneapolis, MN) — The U-S Attorney’s Office in Minnesota is seeking a 50-year prison sentence for Feeding Our Future founder Aimee Bock. She was convicted last year of leading the 246-million-dollar fraud scheme. Bock is scheduled to be sentenced Thursday for stealing federal funding that was supposed to be used to provide meals for low-income children in the state. Her defense attorney is asking for a lesser sentence of 37 months or just over three years in federal prison. Prosecutors have charged 78 people in the Feeding Our Future fraud case, and 65 have been convicted. U-S Attorney Daniel Rosen said in his court filing, “Stealing funds intended to feed children is a profound breach of trust that demands accountability.”

(Crosslake, MN) — The Flanders Fire near Crosslake is now 60 percent contained and has burned more than 16 hundred acres. Crow Wing County Sheriff Eric Klang said Monday’s effort was “another huge step forward thanks to the incredible teamwork and dedication of all responding personnel.” He says there are 143 firefighters assigned, and their main focus is mopping up hot spots. Crow Wing County received some heavy rainfall last night. Authorities are still asking people to avoid the area.
>>Two Harbors Man Sentenced for Sexually Assaulting Sleeping Woman
(Two Harbors, MN) — A Two Harbors man will spend up to seven-and-a-half years in prison for sexually assaulting a woman while she was sleeping in the summer of 2024. The Minnesota Attorney General’s Office says Hunter Timo was sentenced Monday in Lake County court to 90 months following a guilty plea to second-degree criminal sexual conduct. Timo admitted to entering a bedroom where the victim slept and sexually assaulting her in June of 2024. The A-G’s Office prosecuted the case for Lake County.
>>Large Drug Bust on Iron Range Nets Meth, Cocaine and Cash
(Virginia, MN) — A long-term drug investigation on the Iron Range netted nearly 19-and-a-half pounds of methamphetamine, more than a pound of cocaine, and over 21-thousand dollars in cash. Authorities say members of the Lake Superior Violent Offender Task Force executed multiple search warrants this past weekend in rural St. Louis County, Virginia, and Gilbert. Officers say several suspects were booked into the St. Louis County Jail in Virginia on first-degree controlled substance charges. Officials say additional court appearances are expected in the coming days.

(Moorhead, MN) — The Moorhead Police Department is investigating after nearly a dozen students at Horizon Middle School became ill Monday after eating candy reportedly handed out by another student. Authorities say they believe the candy contained T-H-C. Moorhead Area Public Schools says students reported symptoms including nausea. Police say the investigation has been slowed because students involved have not been cooperative with officers. The investigation remains ongoing and charges could be filed.

(Minneapolis, MN) — The Minnesota Twins topped the Houston Astros 6-3 in the series opener Monday night at Target Field. The game was delayed nearly two hours due to rain. The Twins had a 6-0 lead before the Astros scored three runs in the seventh inning. Josh Bell hit two home runs for Minnesota and Luke Keaschell drove in a pair of runs. Eric Orze earned the win in relief. Zebby Matthews is on the mound tonight (Tues) for the Twins.
