(St. Paul, MN) — Governor Tim Walz is expected to call a special session sometime this week. Lawmakers still need to pass the state budget for the next two years. The governor still feels that when the special session is called, lawmakers can wrap up their work quickly and finish before June 1st, the budget deadline.

(St. Paul, MN) – Governor Tim Walz signed the Agriculture and Broadband Development Policy and Finance bill into law. The bill funds the Department of Agriculture and the Minnesota Board of Animal Health among other things. The funding will increase the money needed for food assistance throughout the state and the Farm to School and Early Child Care Program. There is also a one-time increase of $1.5 million for Ag emergencies like protecting against the bird flu. The budget also offsets some of the federal money that could be lost to cuts.

(Minneapolis, MN) — The Timberwolves look to even the Western Conference Finals when they face the Thunder tonight (Mon 7:30pm) at Target Center. The Wolves routed Thunder 143-101 in Game 3 Saturday night and now trail Oklahoma City 2-1 in the best-of-seven series. Minnesota made 20 three-pointers on its home court. Anthony Edwards had 30 points, nine rebounds and six assists, and Julius Randle scored 24. Game 5 will be Wednesday night in O-K-C.

(Minneapolis, MN) — Two 16-year-olds suffered gunshot injuries, one-life-threatening, in Minneapolis on Sunday. Police responded to the scene around 1 p.m. on a shooting report. They found a boy with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound and sent him to Hennepin Healthcare. While investigating, a second boy with a life-threatening gunshot wound showed up at the same hospital. Police believe the two were injured in the same shooting. No arrests have been made.

(Undated) — Northern Minnesota wildfires are mostly contained after weeks of fighting. The Eastern Area Incident Management Team says the Camp House fire near Brimson is still 90% contained with no growth over the weekend. The cause is still under investigation, but officials believe it started on private land. The Jenkins Creek fire in St. Louis County is 78% contained as of Sunday, creeping steadily since mid-last week. Sheriff Gordon Ramsay says the fire started near Hoyt Lakes after a campfire was left unattended, and the person responsible was identified.

(Jordan, MN) — A man is accused of fatally shooting a woman and leaving her body at an abandoned property in Jordan. A 41-year-old man was charged with second-degree murder on Friday. The victim, 46-year-old Tabitha Justice, was found dead with a gunshot wound to the head on January 28th, after being reported missing earlier that day. Police say friends of Justice testified she was in a relationship with an aggressive man who kicked her out. The suspect told police in February he saw Justice a few days before her death, going to his parents to “cool off.” A search of a Hovland residence in April turned up a handgun and shell casings that matched those at the scene.

(Minneapolis, MN) — The Minneapolis Police Department is searching for a man and his two juvenile children. 36-year-old Oystern Talbert was last seen near Minneapolis with his son and daughter on April 22nd. Police say he was leaving the mother of the children behind and planning to go to Dallas, Texas, or Atlanta, Georgia. Talbert is described as Black, 5 feet 6 inches tall, 145 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. 11-year-old William Talbert is 5 feet tall and 80 pounds. 10-year-old Gabriella Talbert is 5 feet tall and 110 pounds. Talbert is known to drive a blue and purple Dodge Challenger, missing the front fender, with a Texas license plate PMT5490.
>>The Dept. of Traffic Safety considers what’s next after increase in distracted driving citations
(Undated) — The Minnesota Department of Traffic Safety is trying to figure out what’s next after there were 1,000 more citations issues during this year’s distracted driving campaign compared to last year. Director Mike Hanson says the department has a lot of work to do when it comes to education and outreach. Hanson says distracted driving enforcement will continue to be a focus for the department over the summer as traffic increases during the busy season. In 2024, at least 29 fatalities and 137 serious injuries were attributed to distracted driving.
