>>Minnesota Senate to Vote on Democrats’ Omnibus Firearms Bill

(St. Paul, MN) — The Minnesota Senate is scheduled to vote on a gun violence prevention package during today’s (Mon) floor session. The bill authored by D-F-L Senator Zaynab Mohamed of Minneapolis would ban assault weapons, high-capacity magazines, binary triggers, and ghost guns. The measure also includes 20 million dollars for school safety aid, 14.7 million for mental health access, funding for violence prevention, and safe gun storage requirements. Mohamed says it is the culmination of work that began after the Annunciation Church and School shooting.

 

>>Minnesota House Expected to Pass Bill Creating Office of the Inspector General

(St. Paul, MN) — There are only two weeks left of the legislative session, and the Minnesota House is expected to pass a bill establishing a statewide Office of the Inspector General. Senate Majority Leader Erin Murphy says, “I am both relieved, and I think delighted that we will finally have the ability to move the independent Office of Inspector General through the legislature and to the governor’s desk.” The Minnesota Senate approved the bill last year, but it will have to pass it again once it clears the House. The House made a few changes to the O-I-G bill in committee.

 

>>Klobuchar Announces Plan to Make State Government More Innovative

(St. Paul, MN) — Gubernatorial candidate, Senator Amy Klobuchar, is rolling out a plan to modernize state government and deliver faster, more accessible services for Minnesotans. The proposal aims to modernize outdated systems, make services mobile-friendly, and let residents track applications in real time, while expanding broadband to about 120,000 underserved households through a “Last Mile Initiative.” It also calls for stronger protections against fraud and waste, including better oversight and upgraded data systems to flag suspicious activity. Overall, the plan focuses on efficiency and accountability—setting deadlines for services, streamlining permit processes, creating a one-stop business portal, reducing costs through bulk purchasing, accelerating home construction, and improving access to rental assistance statewide.

 

>>MN Biofuels Disappointed Year-Round E-15 Left Out of Skinny Farm Bill

(Burnsville, MN) — The skinny farm bill approved in the U-S House does not include a provision allowing year-round sales of E-15. Brian Werner of the Minnesota Bio-Fuels Association says G-O-P leaders used a procedural rule to delay the vote. He says, “I will say we are disappointed that the House leadership made the decision to once again kick the can down the road on E-15. They said now what we’re going to do is we’re going wait and we’re going to vote on the E-15 bill on May 13th.” Year-round E-15 sales in all states would require more than two billion bushels of corn.

(Maple Grove, MN) — U-S Representative Kelly Morrison is back in the Twin Cities to meet with small business owners today (Mon) in Maple Grover. Morrison has been hosting meetings to talk about the affordability crisis and how small businesses are impacted by the rising costs. She says from the tariffs to Operation Metro Surge to now rising prices, small business owners have faced extreme economic uncertainty and unique challenges.

 

>>St. Louis Park Music Teacher Davis Named 2026 Minnesota Teacher of the Year

(St. Paul, MN) — St. Louis Park music teacher David Davis is being honored as the 2026 Minnesota Teacher of the Year. Davis teaches instrumental and general music at Park Spanish Immersion Elementary School. Education Minnesota says Davis emphasizes student voice, creativity, and cultural responsiveness in his classroom. His students compose original music, collaborate in bands, and connect learning to their own identities. Hundreds attended the Teacher of the Year recognition banquet Sunday at the RiverCentre in St. Paul.

 

>>Man and Woman Found Dead in Prior Lake Home

(Prior Lake, MN) — Authorities in the south metro are investigating the deaths of two people in Prior Lake.  Police were doing a welfare check Saturday morning and determined there was a need to go inside the home.  Officers found a 35-year-old man and 34-year-old woman dead in a bedroom.  Their names haven’t been released.   Investigators say there is no ongoing public safety threat.

 

>>Pedestrian Identified in Fatal Brainerd Crash

(Brainerd, MN) — A pedestrian killed in a crash in Brainerd Friday night is being identified. Officers found an unresponsive man, later identified as 48-year-old Michael Alger of Baxter. Life-saving efforts were attempted but were unsuccessful. The driver, 18-year-old Ashtin Brotherton of Brainerd, remained at the scene. The crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Brainerd Police Department.

 

>>Cabin Fire in St. Louis County Under Investigation

(Brimson, MN) — A cabin fire in a remote part of St. Louis County is under investigation. Authorities say a 9-1-1 call came in just before five Saturday night near Brimson. When deputies arrived, the cabin was fully engulfed, and nearby buildings had also suffered some damage. Multiple volunteer fire departments responded due to the location. The State Fire Marshal’s Office is now investigating the cause. Officials are reminding residents to use caution with campfires and grills during dry, windy conditions.

 

>>Colorado Avalanche Skate Past Minnesota in Game 1 of Second Round Playoffs

(Denver, CO) — The Avalanche scored four third-period goals in a 9-6 win over the Minnesota Wild in Game 1 of the second-round playoff series last night in Denver. Colorado was up 3-0 in the first period before Minnesota scored a pair of goals. The Wild took a 5-4 lead in the second period on a short-hander by Marcus Foligno. Quinn Hughes, Marcus Johansson, Mats Zuccarello, Ryan Hartman, and Vladimir Tarasenko also scored in the loss. Goaltender Jesper Wallstedt allowed eight goals on 42 shots. Game 2 is Tuesday at 7 p-m at Ball Arena.

 

>>Edwards Listed as Questionable for Game 1 of West Semis at Spurs

(San Antonio, TX) — Timberwolves All-Star guard Anthony Edwards is questionable for Game 1 of the Western Conference Semifinals tonight (Mon 8:30 pm) in San Antonio. The team released an update on Edwards saying he’s been cleared for on-court basketball activities. Ant missed the two last games of the first-round playoff series against Denver due to a knee bone bruise. Minnesota won two of three games against the Spurs during the regular season.
