Senate Majority Leader Erin Murphy says,” Democrats really have to look out four years to start to see a structural imbalance or potential deficit to tackle that.” Murphy says their budget plan includes cuts and some fee or tax increases. Republicans say they will not support any tax increases even on the wealthiest Minnesotans. Walz met with legislative leaders Sunday afternoon.

(Emmitsburg, MD) — The name of a Burnsville firefighter/paramedic killed in the duty will forever be etched on a plaque at the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial. Adam Finseth was added to the memorial during the Honor Roll Sunday in Emmitsburg, Maryland. Finseth’s son received a special American flag and rose when his name was read. Finseth and Burnsville police Officers Matthew Ruge and Paul Elmstrand were shot and killed by a gunman holding seven people hostage last February. Seventy firefighters who died in 2024 and 70 others were added to the memorial this year.

(Robbinsdale, MN) — Police in Robbinsdale are investigating a shooting Sunday night that left two people hospitalized. Officers say they located a 19-year-old woman with a gunshot wound to the head in Sanborn Park. First responders provided life-saving aid to the victim before she was taken to North Memorial Hospital with grave injuries. A man in his 20s arrived at Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park with a gunshot wound and was transferred to H-C-M-C with serious injuries. Investigators say there were many people in Sanborn Park, but they shared little information about the shooting and no arrests have been made.

(Miltona, MN) — Douglas County authorities are reminding everyone to wear a life jacket following a boating incident on Lake Miltona. The sheriff’s office received a report Saturday that a 15-year-old boy had fallen out of a moving boat and the boat was still going in circles. The juvenile was able to call 9-1-1 while yelling for help but was not wearing a life vest. Deputies say a pontoon boat rescued the boy and brought him shore. He was treated by paramedics and released his parents. A local dock and lift company stopped the unoccupied boat.

(St. Paul, MN) — Eden Prairie teacher Linda “Wally” Wallenberg is Minnesota’s 2025 Teacher of the Year. Wallenberg is in her 49th year of teaching. She became the first certified Swedish teacher in the state, beginning her education journey at Faribault Junior High, teaching eighth-grade English. After a year and a half, Wallenberg made her home at Eden Prairie High School in 1977, teaching English, Swedish, and coaching the gymnastics team. Many of her students have gone on to be professional poets, hockey players, and Olympic medalists. Wallenberg says her proudest achievement is inspiring students to become teachers, at least three of whom have been finalists for this award in the past five years.

(Falcon Heights, MN) — Animal Humane Society officials say the Walk for Animals raised an estimated 570 thousand dollars this year. Around 10 thousand people and their pets participated in the annual fundraiser on the State Fairground Saturday. Dogs, cats, cows, goats, llamas, and ponies walked the one-mile loop. A dog named Sadie driving an ice cream truck won the pet costume contest.

(Undated) — Higher temperatures and extreme fire risk warnings on Sunday led to grass fires in several areas. Douglas County crews responded to a grass and vehicle fire at an intersection on Highway 27. A vehicle had entered the ditch after trying to turn south. During its attempt to get out, nearby grass caught fire and spread to the car. The vehicle was a total loss, and the driver was treated for minor injuries. Around 5 p.m. in St. Louis County in Biwabik Township, firefighters were called to a fire at the Lakeland Mobile Home Park. Two people were brought to an Aurora hospital for unknown but believed to be non-life-threatening injuries. Officials say the two were burning grass when it spread underneath the mobile home. The trailer suffered minimal damage.

(Minneapolis, MN) – Minnesotans need to be on the lookout for ticks as spring weather means they’re out in full force. U of M Public Health Professor Jon Oliver says you should be doing daily tick checks on your kids and pets. He says to avoid ticks, wearing pants and tucking them into your socks can help, as will insect repellent. Oliver says if you’ve been bit, use tweezers to grab the tick by its mouthparts and pull it off. If you develop a rash or flu, visit a doctor.

(Minneapolis, MN) — The Minnesota Timberwolves will face the Golden State Warriors in the N-B-A’s Western Conference Semifinals. The Warriors beat the Rockets 103-89 Sunday night in the seventh game of their first-round series at Houston. Game 1 between Minnesota and Golden State is 8:30 Tuesday night at Target Center and Game 2 will also be played in Minneapolis on Thursday. The series moves to San Francisco for Game 3 on Saturday. The Wolves topped the Lakers four games-to-one to advance to the second round. Ex-Timberwolf Jimmy Butler was traded to Golden State in a midseason deal.

(Boston, MA) — The Minnesota Twins are celebrating their first series win at Fenway Park since 2019. The Twins won the series finale 5-4 on Sunday to take two of three from the Red Sox in Boston. Harrison Bader drove in the go-ahead run with a two-out double in the eighth inning. Louis Varland threw one scoreless inning of relief for the win. Starting pitcher Chris Paddack allowed three runs over five innings. The Twins return home Tuesday to face the Baltimore Orioles.
