Public information officer Christine Kolinski says visitors will see a mix of motorboats and canoes on the water, with hundreds of lakes, more than 200 boat access points, and 57 designated entry points available throughout the forest. Campgrounds are also opening for the season. Officials remind anglers to properly dispose of fish remains at least 200 feet from campsites to help avoid attracting bears.

(White Township, MN) — Several agencies responded to a grass fire Friday afternoon in White Township, about six miles south of Aurora in St. Louis County. Multiple fire departments, along with the Minnesota DNR and its helicopter crews, worked to contain the blaze. Officials say the fire damaged a few small outbuildings and several junked vehicles, but crews prevented it from spreading further. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The bill would ensure Minnesotans are safe in places like schools, hospitals, childcare centers, and more.

(St. Paul, MN)  – A bill approved in the Minnesota House would create a psilocybin (SILL’-oh-CY’-bin) treatment program.  It is the psychedelic compound in magic mushrooms.   The pilot program would allow one thousand adults ages 21 and older with qualifying mental health conditions to use psilocybin under supervision.  The measure sponsored by Representative Andy Smith of Rochester would reclassify the drug from a Schedule I to a Schedule IV substance and legalize therapeutic use in the state.

>> Fergus Falls Man Jailed for Sword Threat and Assaulting an Officer

(Fergus Falls, MN) — A Fergus Falls man is charged with threatening a woman with a Samurai sword and assaulting a police officer.  An apartment manager called the police on Thursday to report a man wielding a sword, yelling profanities, and threatening her.   Officers say 24-year-old Alexander Goeller approached them at the scene and resisted arrest.  The report says Goeller kneed an officer in the jaw after being taken to the ground.  He made his first court appearance on Friday in Otter Tail County.

>>Stamp Out Hunger

(Undated) — Letter carriers across Minnesota are collecting donations today(Sat) for the annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive. Branch 9 President Dave Rian says residents can leave non-perishable food items in bags by their mailboxes for pickup. Donations often include canned foods, rice, beans, peanut butter, fruit, and noodles. Rian says it’s often lower-income neighborhoods that donate the most food. Stamp Out Hunger is considered the nation’s largest single-day food drive.
