Commissioner Brad Lindsay says an official from the U.S. Interagency Council on Homelessness will discuss continued efforts to combat the problem. Lindsay says Hennepin County recently reached “functional zero” status, and Ramsey is the lone county left to end veterans homelessness.

(St. Paul, MN) — Minnesota’s attorney general warns veterans and their families about scams involving veterans benefit claims. Attorney General Keith Ellison says the scammers use false advertising, claiming they can help veterans get through the benefits process faster or get a better disability rating from the VA. Ellison says the agreements signed by veterans often contain unreasonable fees or deceptive terms. The attorney general reminds veterans and their families that they are entitled to free assistance from attorneys, claim agents, and veterans service organizations accredited by the VA.
>>Two Deer Hunters Suffer Gun Wounds
(Undated) — Two deer hunters are in the hospital following two separate incidents on the opening day of the firearms season in northwest Minnesota. The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says a 38-year-old man was hunting in rural Moorhead Saturday morning when he was shot in the head. The man was airlifted to a Fargo hospital, but his current condition wasn’t released. Farther north in Norman County, authorities reported a 37-year-old man suffered a single gunshot wound in a hunting accident near Perley. Sheriff’s officials say his injury is believed to be non-life threatening.

(Alexandria, MN) — Authorities in west central Minnesota say a woman from Hastings broke her arm while deer hunting on Saturday northeast of Alexandria. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office says the 64-year-old woman and her hunting partner were about a mile into the woods near Carlos when she tripped and fractured her arm. Deputies say D-N-R officers and first responders were able to backboard the woman out of the woods safely. She was taken to an Alexandria hospital for treatment.

(St. Cloud, MN) — Sherburne County officials explain how a DFL candidate expanded his lead in a race for the Minnesota House. Election returns in the District 14-B race between DFL Representative Dan Wolgamott and Republican challenger Sue Elk showed Wolgamott winning by 28 votes. But that margin expanded Friday after the county found that some mail-in absentee ballots were not included in the posted totals. Wolgamott now leads Elk by 191 votes, a number that would not trigger an automatic recount. State Republican officials say the state should pay for a recount to assure voters that the results are accurate.

(St. Paul, MN) — Minnesota’s voter turnout could be the highest in the U.S. again this year. Turnout in the state is currently estimated at just under 76 percent. Four other states currently report a turnout of over 72 percent, including Wisconsin and Michigan. Minnesota has had the highest voter turnout in each presidential election since 2008.

(Minneapolis, MN) — The state Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating a shooting death this weekend involving a St. Paul police officer. The incident happened Saturday when St. Paul police were tipped to the whereabouts of a man wanted for the death of his pregnant ex-wife. Police say they learned the suspect — Mychel Stowers — was in a laundromat on Saturday. Stowers faces two counts of second-degree murder in the death last month of his ex-wife — Damara Stowers. Police say he was armed when they approached him, and officers shot him several times. He was later pronounced dead at Regions Hospital.

(Minneapolis, MN) — Hennepin County Sheriff Dewanna Witt says she is appealing an order from the state to reduce the county jail population to meet the state’s minimum safety standards. Currently, the jail houses 844 inmates, with 705 housed at the county jail and 139 in other jails. The state wants the population reduced to 600 by this Thursday. State officials say by failing to meet those minimum standards, the jail risks the safety of everyone at the facility. But Sheriff Witt says the deadline is unrealistic and wants it extended to next month.

(Rochester, MN) — A Rochester business that has sold comics and collectible cards for more than 20 years will close later this month. The Book Review’s owner, Jack Moore, announced the closure on social media. Moore has been running the store since his uncle died suddenly in 2022. The store’s last official day of business is November 22nd, with a goodbye and thank-you social scheduled for November 23rd.
