(Mankato, MN) — Hundreds are expected to attend the Official State of Minnesota Veterans Day Program this morning (Tues) in Mankato. Veterans Affairs Commissioner Brad Lindsay says this year’s theme is honoring our World War II veterans on the 80th anniversary of the end of the conflict. He says we have less than two thousand World War II veterans left in the state. Minnesota State Mankato Professor Doctor Kyle Ward is giving the keynote address. Lindsay says there’s a free breakfast and social time before the program.

(St. Paul, MN) — The Minnesota Wild is hosting Military Appreciation Night at tonight’s (Tues 7pm) Veterans Day game against the San Jose Sharks. The game will honor all the men and women who served in the Armed Forces. The team says 105-year-old Navy veteran Stan Nelson will make the “Let’s Play Hockey” announcement during the puck drop. Nelson is believed to the oldest World War II veteran in Minnesota. Military Appreciation-themed mystery pucks will be on sale while supplies last.

(Two Harbors, MN) — Record turnout Monday for the annual Beacon Memorial Lighting ceremony at Split Rock Lighthouse on the North Shore. The names of the 29 fallen crew members on the Edmund Fitzgerald were read on the 50th anniversary of the ship’s sinking in Lake Superior. The Split Rock Beacon was lit for a couple hours following the ceremony. Former site manager Lee Radzak spoke about coming up with the idea for a memorial in 1985 while listening to Gordon Lightfoot’s ‘The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.’
>>US Senate Votes to End Government Shutdown, Minnesota Senators Vote ‘No’
(Washington, DC) — The U-S Senate passed a bill ending the longest government shutdown in history Monday night, sending it to the House. The measure provides full funding for SNAP benefits through next September and includes a stopgap budget to keep the government running through January 30th. The U-S House is expected to vote on it Wednesday after being off since mid-September. Minnesota Senators Amy Klobuchar and Tina Smith voted against the bill. It does not include a provision to extend Affordable Care Act subsidies, something they say could lead to higher health insurance premiums for many Minnesotans.

(St. Paul, MN) — Republican candidate for governor Lisa Demuth and running mate Ryan Wilson begin a statewide campaign tour today (Tues). It starts this morning at Duluth International Airport and includes stops at airports in Moorhead, Mankato and Paynesville this afternoon. Democrats say Wilson will help Demuth bring President Trump’s agenda to Minnesota. They are running against eight Republicans including Representative Kristin Robbins, former Senator Scott Jensen, and Kendall Qualls. Governor Walz is seeking his third term next year.
>>St. Louis County Authorities Safely Locate Hunter Who Got Lost and Fell
(Cook, MN) — St. Louis County authorities say a man from Minneapolis is okay after falling and getting lost while deer hunting near Cook. Deputies say the 70-year-old man injured a deer and was tracking it when he became lost in the darkness Monday night. He contacted his wife and tried to call 9-1-1 and dispatchers were able to get G-P-S coordinates of his location. Sheriff’s officials say the hunter was located uninjured by search parties with training and experience in human tracking.

(Minneapolis, MN) — After seven months of negotiations, the Minneapolis Educators Union and the school district have reached a tentative agreement. The deal finalized Monday night includes a two percent pay increase for teachers this year, smaller class sizes, and more manageable special education caseloads. The agreement comes just three days before a potential strike. In 2022, Minneapolis teachers walked off the job for nearly three weeks during a similar labor dispute.

Minnesota trailed at halftime before rallying past Utah in the second half Monday night. Anthony Edwards led the Wolves with 35 points and Julius Randle scored 27. Minnesota is back at Target Center Friday night to face the Sacramento Kings in an N-B-A Cup game.
