>>Walz Touts Progress on Veterans Homelessness, Says More Work to be Done

(Arden Hills, MN) —  Governor Tim Walz says Minnesota is making significant progress to end veteran homelessness in the state.  But Walz told hundreds gathered at the State Veterans Day ceremony there is more work to be done to support our veterans.  He says we need to make sure if they’re going to serve, they come to the welcome and the services and resources they deserve.  The governor also visited the Minnesota Veterans Home in Minneapolis to thank fellow veterans. Walz said there is no politics involved in their care and legislators in Minnesota prove that.

 

>>Rochester Veteran Receives New Deck, Ramp on Veterans Day

(Rochester, MN) — A Rochester veteran has a new ramp and deck at his home thanks to a volunteer program called Homebound Heroes.  The group unveiled its latest project on Veterans Day at the home of 63-year-old Bob Trebble.  The Army and National Guard veteran has no feeling in his lower left leg and will eventually need a wheelchair, so the group built the ramp and deck to help him with his mobility. Homebound Heroes has completed more than 80 projects in Olmsted, Rice, and Goodhue counties.

 

>>Authorities ID Teen Who Died in Kayak Accident on Western Wisconsin Lake

(Minneapolis, MN) — Authorities are identifying the Minnesota teen who died after a weekend kayaking incident in western Wisconsin.  The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office says 17-year-old Emiliano Linaldi Enriquez of Minneapolis died of an apparent freshwater drowning.  The Barron County Sheriff’s Office reported that two people overturned in a kayak Saturday on Kirby Lake and one paddler did not resurface.  Divers used sonar to locate Linaldi Enriquez and he was airlifted to a Twin Cities hospital where he died Sunday morning.

(Angola, WA) —  Authorities in West Africa are releasing more information about the murder-for-hire plot that resulted in the death of a 44-year-old missionary from Minnesota in Angola.  Forty-four-year-old Beau Shroyer of Detroit Lakes was killed on October 25th.  According to Angola media, Shroyer’s wife Jackie was arrested “as the mastermind behind the crime.”  The Shroyer’s 24-year-old guard who was allegedly having an affair with Jackie hired two men and were with Jackie when they faked car trouble.  When Beau arrived to help, Jackie allegedly went into a wooded area and the men killed him with a knife.  Investigators say Jackie offered $50,000 to carry out the killing  because she did not want to leave Angola when her husband’s mission concluded.

 

>>Duluth Memorial Grows for 7-Year-Old Killed in Murder-Suicide

(Duluth, MN) —  A memorial is growing outside a free toy library in Duluth in honor of a seven-year-old boy killed in a murder-suicide last week.  Oliver Nephew, his mother Kathryn, Erin Abramson, and her son Jacob Nephew were all fatally shot Thursday by Anthony Nephew, the father of both boys who then took his own life.  The memorial has been filled with toys, flowers, and more by the community for other children.  Oliver put up the library for kids in the neighborhood.

 

>>Ribbon Cutting for Geo-Thermal Cell at St. Louis County Landfill in Virginia

(Virginia, MN) — There’s a ribbon cutting ceremony today (Tues 1:30pm) in Virgina for the new geo-thermal cell at the St. Louis County landfill.  Construction on the first-of-a-kind project in the state was recently completed and approved for use.  St. Louis County officials plan to talk about how the technology will capture naturally occurring heat that is produced as the garbage decomposes and the next steps in the project.  The landfill serves about 92 thousand residents over more than 63 hundred square miles in northeastern Minnesota.

(Hibbing, MN) — Essentia Health is offering mobile mammography services to rural communities in Minnesota.  The healthcare organization will regularly visit Ada, Aurora, Deer River, Deerwood, Hibbing, Pine River, and Staples.  The mobile unit will also travel to Valley City, North Dakota.  Anyone wanting to schedule an appointment should contact their local Essentia clinic.

(Duluth, MN) — A historic mansion in Duluth is nominated for U-S-A Today’s Best Holiday Historic Home Tour.  Among the 20 nominees is the Glensheen Mansion, which finished fifth overall in this category last year.  Other notable nominees include Graceland in Memphis, Tennessee, and the Biltmore House in Asheville, North Carolina.  Online voting for the nominees will continue until December 2nd, and the top ten finishers will be announced on December 6th.

 

>>Jack Del Rio Resigns from Wisconsin Football After OWI Crash

(Madison, WI) — Former N-F-L coach and Minnesota Vikings linebacker Jack Del Rio is no longer a senior adviser for the University of Wisconsin football team.  Police in Madison say 61-year-old Del Rio was arrested after drunken driving crash Friday.  The report says Del Rio hit a street sign, drove over a fence, and left his vehicle in a yard.  Witnesses pointed out Del Rio to officers as he was walking away from the area.  Badger coach Luke Fickell says Del Rio has stepped down from his role with the team.  Del Rio was the Vikings’ leading tackler for three seasons and made the Pro Bowl in 1995.
