(Washington, DC) — A new poll suggests six percent of Democrats in the U-S want Governor Tim Walz to run for president in 2028. The survey shows 41 percent of Democratic voters would support Vice President Kamala Harris as the presidential nominee in four years. California Governor Gavin Newsom came in second at eight percent, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro received seven percent, and Walz and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg both got six percent. Sixteen percent of respondents are undecided. Harris and Walz lost the November election to former President Donald Trump and Ohio Senator J-D Vance.

(Shakopee, MN) — Scott County officials are scheduled to hand recount ballots today (Thurs) in the Minnesota House District 54-A race. The unofficial results show D-F-L State Representative Brad Tabke (TAB’-kee) of Shakopee leading G-O-P challenger Aaron Paul by 14 votes. The county elections administrator says they’re still trying to account for 20 absentee ballots that are apparently missing. Republican members of Minnesota’s congressional delegation sent a letter to Secretary of State Steve Simon, demanding what they call “accountability” and “full transparency.” Democrats and Republicans are currently tied with 67 members each in the Minnesota House.

(Owatonna, MN) — An infant is the victim of a deadly crash on Interstate 35 during the snowstorm Wednesday morning in Owatonna. The Minnesota State Patrol says a pickup driven by 25-year-old Dominic Hosteller of Owatonna lost control on the snow and ice, left the road, and rolled into the ditch. The report says a baby boy died in the crash and Hosteller and a four-year-old girl were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. State troopers responded to 577 crashes statewide on Wednesday and 66 vehicles going off the road.

(Fergus Falls, MN) — An Alexandria caregiver employee is charged with abusing and assaulting a vulnerable adult in Fergus Falls. Police were called to an assault report at a Fergus Falls group home Monday. Court documents say the victim’s provider suspected abuse after a personality change. A recording device captured the victim being assaulted by 23-year-old Ashley Simons. Footage shows Simons striking the victim in the head, physically removing her from a recliner, hitting the victim with her knee, and holding the victim down on the floor by the victim’s wrists. Simons told investigators she had “taken out her frustrations” on the victim and got “physical with them when she shouldn’t have.”

(Minneapolis, MN) — Authorities are identifying the 18-year-old shot and killed Tuesday night in the Little Earth neighborhood of south Minneapolis. The Hennepin County medical examiner says 18-year-old Tedrick Davis of St. Paul died of multiple gunshot wounds to the head. No arrests have been in the killing of Davis. Police Chief Brian O’Hara said, “Our investigators will work tirelessly to give a voice to this person who can no longer speak for themselves and seek justice for him.”

(Undated) — The new EagleCam goes live today (Thurs) on the Minnesota D-N-R’s website and You Tube channel. The two-thousand pound nest at the site of the original EagleCam fell to the ground due to heavy snow in April of 2023. Nongame wildlife specialist Lori Naumann says the new nest has been occupied for the last few years and a pair of eagles successfully raised chicks. She says the new nest is not far from the old one. The D-N-R expects viewers in all 50 states and more than 150 countries to be watching the new EagleCam.

(St. Paul, MN) — Joel Johnson is out as the women’s hockey coach at the University of St. Thomas. School officials say Johnson resigned following an incident Friday night after the Tommies’ loss at Bemidji State. Johnson sat out Saturday’s game and submitted his resignation on Tuesday. Assistant Bethany Brausen is serving as interim head coach at St. Thomas. Johnson was named Tommies head coach in 2021 and led their transition to Division 1 hockey. The White Bear Lake native coached the U-S women’s hockey team to a silver medal in the 2022 Olympics.

(Shakopee, MN) — Canterbury Park officially submitted its plans for the 2025 horse racing season with the Minnesota Racing Commission Wednesday. The track is proposing a 51-day meet for thoroughbred and quarter horse racing. If approved, the upcoming season will be three days shorter than this past summer. This year, Canterbury saw a 13 percent increase in betting and a 13 percent increase in the number of horses competing. The Minnesota Racing Commission will consider this schedule at its December meeting.
