>>More than $ 37 Million Raised During 2024 “Give to the Max Day”

(Undated)  —  Organizers say “Give to the Max” Day 2024 was another successful campaign for non-profits and schools around the state.  Thursday’s 24-hour online campaign raised over 37 million dollars($37,086,034), beating last year’s total of 34.2 million.  Tens of thousands of donors from all 87 Minnesota counties, all 50 states, and 36 countries celebrated the 16th anniversary by donating to 6,556 causes around the state.

 

>>Minnesota House District 54-A Recount Gives Incumbent Tabke a 15-Vote Lead

(Shakopee, MN)  —  D-F-L State Representative Brad Tabke of Shakopee now has a 15-vote lead over Republican challenger Aaron Paul in the Minnesota House District 54-A race.  Scott County officials hand recounted the ballots Thursday and Tabke increased his lead over Paul by one vote in the unofficial results.  Four ballots were challenged during the recount.  This race is closely being watched with Democrats and Republicans currently tied with 67 members each in the Minnesota House.

 

>>Man Fatally Shot near Downtown Rochester Thursday Night

(Rochester, MN)  —  Police in Rochester are investigating  a deadly shooting.  Officers say first responders found the victim Thursday night near downtown and provided medical aid, but he died at the scene.  Investigators aren’t releasing any other information about the incident or whether they’ve identified a suspect.  The victim’s name hasn’t been released.

 

>>Funeral for Brooklyn Park Couple Killed in Wisconsin Crash

(Anoka, MN)  —  There is a visitation and funeral in Anoka today (Fri) for a Brooklyn Park couple killed in a crash November 1st near Madison, Wisconsin.  Dane County authorities said 48-year-olds Josh and Tammy Stahl were among five victims who died when their vehicle struck a tree and caught fire.  Their family says the Stahl’s were passionate advocates within the Type 1 diabetes community.  They leave behind two sons, Blake and Gavin.

 

>>Jury Deliberations in Fergus Falls Human Smuggling Case Set to Begin

(Fergus Falls, MN)  —  Jurors are set to begin deliberating on a verdict today (Fri) in a human smuggling trial in Minnesota.  The prosecution rested its case against Hari Patel and Steve Shand in a federal courtroom in Fergus Falls yesterday.  The defense chose not to call any witnesses, and both sides have now presented their closing arguments.  Prosecutors accuse the two defendants of being part of a human smuggling ring that illegally transported residents from India into the United States by having them walk across the northern border.  A family of four died in a blizzard while attempting to cross the U-S/Canadian border in 2022.

 

>>Pine County Man Traveling to Texas Reported Missing

(Sturgeon Lake, MN)  —  A man from Pine County, who told his family he was going to Texas for the winter, is now considered an endangered missing person.  Eighty-two-year-old Harvey Pearson of Sturgeon Lake left Minnesota on November 6th and called his son from Corpus Christi, Texas, the following day.  Since then, his family has been unable to reach him.  The Minnesota B-C-A says Pearson suffers from memory issues and occasionally experiences mood swings.  Anyone with information about Pearson is urged to contact the Pine County Sheriff’s Office.

 

>>State Health Officials Tracking Huge Spike in Whooping Cough Cases

(St. Paul, MN)  —  The Minnesota Department of Health is tracking a big spike in whooping cough cases in the state.  Epidemiologist Victor Cruz says the number of infections has increased a lot this year and a total of 1,969 cases have been reported.  There were just 61 cases of pertussis in the state in 2023.  Cruz says whooping cough has been spreading since kids returned to school and people started gathering indoors.  He says it’s important to get treatment within the first two weeks of an infection.

 

>>2024 Prep Bowl Kicks Off at US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis

(Minneapolis, MN)  —  The 2024 Prep Bowl kicks off today (Fri 10am) at U-S Bank Stadium.  Two-time defending champion Minneota plays Springfield for the Class A state football championship for the third straight year.  Becker and Totino-Grace meet in the Class 4-A title game at 1 pm.  Jackson County Central and Staples-Motley battle for the Class 2-A crown at 4 o’clock this afternoon, and it’s Minnetonka versus Maple Grove in the Class 6-A championship in the late game (Fri 7pm).  The 9-man, Class 3-A, and Class 5-A state football matchups are Saturday in downtown Minneapolis.
