>>Sherburne County Recount Monday for Minnesota House District 14-B Race

(Elk River, MN) — Election officials in Sherburne County will be recounting ballots today (Mon) in the Minnesota House District 14-B race.  D-F-L Representative Dan Wolgamott of St. Cloud currently leads Republican challenger Sue Ek by 191 votes.  Secretary of State Steve Simon said, “they will do what they need to do under state law. It’ll be open to everyone, meaning not just the news media but anyone off the street can come in and watch.”  A recount last week in Scott County gave D-F-L State Representative Brad Tabke of Shakopee a 15-vote lead over Republican challenger Aaron Paul in the Minnesota House District 54-A race.

 

>>Johnson Stewart to be Sworn in Monday for Minnesota Senate

(St. Paul, MN) —  Democrats will officially resume control of the Minnesota Senate today (Mon) when Senator-elect Ann Johnson Stewart of Wayzata is sworn in as the 67th member.  Johnson Stewart won a special election for the District 45 seat vacated by 3rd District Congresswoman Kelly Morrison.  Governor Walz is expected to attend a reception for the Johnson Stewart following the swearing in ceremony.

 

>>Walz to Announce $ 5 Million in State Funding for Minnesota Food Shelves

(St. Paul, MN) — Governor Tim Walz is scheduled to announce five million dollars in state funding this morning (Mon) for food shelves in Minnesota.  Walz is volunteering at the Neighborhood House food shelf in St. Paul.  Officials say food pantries in the state are seeing record numbers of visits this year and Thanksgiving is just days away.

 

>>Pardoning Ceremony at White House for Minnesota-raised Turkeys

(Washington, DC)  —  The National Thanksgiving Turkeys being pardoned today (Mon10am) by President Biden were raised on the John Zimmerman farm near Northfield.  Zimmerman says , “Minnesota is the number one state for turkey production, supporting over 26 thousand jobs and generating over a billion dollars in economic impact.”  His nine-year-old son, Grant, announced at a ceremony Sunday in Washington, D-C that the presidential turkeys are named Peach and Blossom.  Zimmerman says it’s been a special privilege to raise the National Thanksgiving Turkeys. They will retire to Farmamerica in Waseca.

 

>>St. Cloud Woman Wins National Award for Patriotism Work

(St. Cloud, MN) —  A St. Cloud woman is being honored  by the U-S Air Force for her work with the non-profit Becky’s Troop Care Packages.  Becky Carlson won the Elizabeth Fisher Distinguished Civilian Humanitarian Award, recognizing people and organizations that demonstrate exceptional patriotism and serve U-S Armed Forces members or their families. Carlson started her nonprofit in 2003 in honor of her brother who died while serving in Vietnam.  She sends care packages to active-duty service members overseas.

 

>>Evansville Man Found Unresponsive at Home Under Construction

(Evansville, MN) —  Authorities in Douglas County say a man from Evansville is hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after being found unresponsive at a home under construction.  Deputies found 70-year-old Craig Quinn at the bottom of a set of stairs Sunday and he was airlifted to St. Cloud hospital.  Investigators say it appears Quinn was working in the home when he had a medical emergency that caused him to fall down some stairs.  No foul play is suspected.

 

>>1 Dead, 1 Seriously Injured in Head-On Crash in Independence

(Independence, MN)  —  A man from Montrose is the victim of fatal head-on crash on Highway 12 in Independence.  West Hennepin Public Safety officials say the incident happened Friday night.  Officers say an eastbound Kia and westbound Hyundai collided after one of the vehicles crossed the center line.  The Kia driver, 32-year-old Destin Ertel, died at the scene.  The 35-year-old man driving the Hyundai was hospitalized in serious but stable condition.

 

>>Fargo Man Arrested for Terrorizing People with Handgun

(Fargo, ND)  —  A Fargo man is under arrest for terrorizing people with a gun Sunday morning.  Police were called to a home where a man allegedly threatened two people with a handgun.  Officers say the suspect, 43-year-old Nearia Gibson, came out of the home about four hours later and was taken into custody.  No other information is available.

 

>>Man Dead After Shooting in Minneapolis Park

(Minneapolis, MN)  —  A man is dead after a shooting in south Minneapolis Saturday.  Police were called to reports of three gunshots in a park near a church around 4:45 am.  Officers say a man in his late 20s was found with gunshot wounds and taken the hospital where he died.  No arrests have been made.

 

>>Minnesota Vikings Top Bears on Overtime Field Goal in Chicago

(Chicago, IL)  —  Parker Romo kicked a 29-yard field goal in overtime to give the Minnesota Vikings a 30-27 win over the Bears Sunday at Soldier Field.  The Bears scored 11 points in the last 22 seconds of the fourth quarter.  Chicago recovered an onside kick and Carlos Santos made the game-tying 48-yard field goal as time expired.  Sam Darnold threw a pair of touchdowns for the Purple and Jordan Addison caught eight balls for 162 yards and a T-D.  Aaron Jones ran for 106 yards and a score.  The Vikings host the Arizona Cardinals this Sunday.

 

>>MNUFC Out of MLS Western Semifinals

(Carson, CA)  —  The Minnesota United F-C (MN-UFC) Loons are out of the M-L-S Cup playoffs after falling to the Los Angeles Galaxy Sunday 6-2.  The Loons last advanced to the Western Conference Final in 2020.  The second-seeded Galaxy will host the Seattle Sounders next weekend.
