>>Craig Applauds Ruling That USDA Must Fully Fund SNAP for November

(Washington DC) — Congresswoman Angie Craig is applauding a federal judge’s ruling that the Trump Administration must fully fund and release SNAP benefits by today (Fri).  The Minnesota Democrat said, “President Trump and the U-S-D-A need to do the right thing and comply with the court ruling rather than further delay food assistance from reaching 42 million Americans in need.”  The Trump administration is appealing the ruling.  The Minnesota Department of Children, Youth and Families says it is waiting for guidance from the U-S-D-A on when the benefits will be available and they can distribute to 440 thousand Minnesotans.

 

>>Hennepin County Approves $2 Million for Food Security

(Minneapolis, MN) – Hennepin County is sending $2 million dollars in funding to food banks and food shelves serving residents in the county.  Officials say this money should help provide food through the end of the year.  This action by county commissioners allows them to negotiate contract amendments and issue purchase orders.  In Hennepin County alone, 110,000 people receive SNAP benefits including an estimated 10,600 children.

 

>>Flight Cuts Hit Minneapolis-St.Paul International Airport

(Bloomington, MN) — Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP), one of the busiest hubs in the Midwest, is facing flight disruptions.  In response to the ongoing government shutdown, the F-A-A ordered a ten-percent reduction in flights at 40 major airports nationwide.  Around 41 flights are expected to be cut today at M-S-P.  The airport typically handles between 750 and 850 flights daily.  The Metropolitan Airports Commission, which oversees M-S-P, has confirmed that operations remain stable for now but warns that disruptions will increase as the cuts ramp up over the coming week.

 

>>State Veterans Day Program at Mankato National Guard Armory

(Mankato, MN) — The Mankato National Guard Armory is the site of the Official State of Minnesota Veterans Day Program this year.  Veterans Affairs Commissioner Brad Lindsay says it’s been in Inver Grove Heights for many years, and he’s wanted to do it in greater Minnesota.  He says, “It’s just my belief if we’re going to have an official state Veterans Day event, we need to get it out and allow our veterans, family members, and the general public in other parts of the state to be able to participate in that.”  The State will be recognizing the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II.  Lindsay says the event will likely move to northeast or northwest Minnesota next year.

 

>>Annual State of Lung Cancer Report Released for Minnesota

(Duluth, MN) — The American Lung Association is out with its annual State of Lung Cancer report for Minnesota.  Spokesperson Pat McKone says Minnesota is top five in the country when it comes to lung cancer survival rates.  Minnesota also ranks in the top ten for people getting treatment after diagnosis.  She  says Minnesota is one of just 17 states that requires insurance coverage of comprehensive biomarker testing, which is important for removing cost barriers to lung cancer patients.

 

>>Fargo Man Accused of Threatening President Trump in Online Posts

(Fargo, ND) — A man from Fargo is facing federal charges for making online posts threatening President Trump and law enforcement officials.  Officers arrested Andrew Sandvik Wednesday on a warrant for influencing a federal official by threat.  Police and the F-B-I began investigating Sandvik in September and discovered posts aimed at Trump and F-B-I Director Kash Patel.  The posts included, “Secret Service it is not secret I am your biggest threat you better get here fast” and “death is now marching towards the failed and weak Donald Trump.”  Sandvik has a federal court appearance today in Fargo.

 

>>Minnesota Energy Resources Warns of Utility Scams

(Rosemount, MN) — Utility scammers are getting more sophisticated, and Minnesota Energy Resources is stepping up its efforts to protect customers.  The company has partnered with law enforcement agencies across the state to launch a viral campaign aimed at helping Minnesotans recognize the warning signs of a scam.  Spokeswoman Alison Trouy emphasizes that a legitimate utility company will never threaten or pressure you to make a payment.  She says if you suspect a scam, hang up the phone or close the door. It’s not rude—it’s safe.

 

>>North 5 Ticket Sold in Anoka Wins $113K Jackpot

(Anoka, MN) — The Minnesota Lottery says a North 5 ticket sold in Anoka is a jackpot winner.  The ticket purchased at Kwik Trip in Anoka for Wednesday’s drawing won just under 113 thousand dollars.  The winner has yet to come forward.  The North 5 jackpot resets to 25 thousand dollars after it is won.

 

>>Minnesota Wild Fall to Hurricanes in North Carolina

(Raleigh, NC) — The Minnesota Wild’s two-game win streak ended with a 4-3 loss to the Hurricanes last night in North Carolina.  The Hurricanes scored three first-period goals, and the Wild were unable to come back.  Matt Boldy scored twice for Minnesota and defenseman Brock Faber also lit the lamp.  Filip Gustavsson made 23 saves in the road loss.  The Wild play again tonight (Fri ) at the New York Islanders.
