>>2 Juveniles, 2 Women and Alleged Gunman Dead in Duluth Shootings

(Duluth, MN) —  Police in Duluth are investigating a pair of shooting incidents on Thursday afternoon that claimed the lives of five people.  Officers doing a welfare check found a 47-year-old woman and a juvenile dead of apparent gunshot wounds inside a home.  Investigators said they identified a suspect and located a 45-year-old woman and a juvenile dead in his house.  The 46-year-old man was also found dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.  No names have been released.  The Duluth Police Department plans to have a news conference today (Fri) and will release more information.

 

>>Winona Community Reacts to Guilty Verdict in Killing of Madeline Kingsbury

(Winona, MN)  —  People in Winona are reacting after Adam Fravel was convicted on four counts of first- and second-degree murder in the death of Madeline Kingsbury.  Wendy Peck was one of the hundreds of volunteers who looked for Kingsbury when she disappeared last year.  She said, ” I think everyone in Winona helped search for Maddie and we all feel like family because she was such a wonderful lady. I didn’t know her personally, but we all got to know her through searching, and I’m just glad he was found guilty.”  Community members gathered in Winona Thursday afternoon to reflect on Fravel’s conviction earlier in the day in Blue Earth County.  He’s expected to receive a life prison sentence on December 17th.

 

>>Democrats Re-Elect Hortman as Minnesota House Speaker-Designate

(St. Paul, MN) — Democrats in the Minnesota House last night (Thurs) re-elected state Representative Melissa Hortman from Brooklyn Park at their speaker-designate.  The actual election of the next speaker of the House will be one of the first orders of business when the legislature reconvenes on January 14th.  If recounts don’t change the outcome of two House races — one in Saint Cloud and the other in Shakopee –  Republicans will have as much say as Democrats about who the next speaker is because the House will be tied at 67 votes apiece.  The last time that happened was in 1979.  At that time, Republicans called themselves Independent Republicans, and House members elected I-R Rod Searle as their speaker.  What happens this time remains to be seen.

 

>>GOP Senate Candidate White Plans to Run Against Smith in 2026

(Minneapolis, MN)  —  Republican Royce White, who lost to U-S Senator Amy Klobuchar is Tuesday’s election, says he “fully intends” to run against Democrat Tina Smith for U-S Senate in 2026.  White posted “We gained 5 points on Klobuchar, 5 more next time in 2 years and the rest in 28 if need be.”  In another post, White says there’s a reason Klobuchar said in their debate that he goes after everybody online, even Republicans.  White writes, “They’re all commies, every last one of them.  With different window dressing. We need new people, young people and converts, who are going in the right direction.”  White in one of his posts about running against Smith also wrote, “Or should I challenge Tim Walz?”  The governor is back in Saint Paul today (Fri) meeting with his cabinet.

 

>>AG Ellison Condemns Racist Text Messages Sent to Black Voters

(St. Paul, MN) — Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison is condemning a series of racist text messages that some Black residents received following this week’s election.  He described the messages as disturbing and threatening, stating they have “no place in our society.”  Recipients reported that the messages informed them they had been assigned to pick cotton and would be transported to the nearest plantation.  Ellison encouraged anyone who received one of these messages to forward it to his office.  Similar messages have been reported in other states, prompting an investigation by the U-S Department of Justice and the F-B-I.

 

>>State Veterans Day Ceremony Set for Monday in Arden Hills

(St. Paul, MN) — The Official State of Minnesota Veterans Day ceremony is Monday at the National Guard Readiness Center in Arden Hills.  State Veterans Affairs Commissioner Brad Lindsay says everyone is invited to the free breakfast at 8:30 a-m and the program starts at 10 o’clock.  He says they have the 34th Infantry Division Red Bull Band, the adjutant general of the National Guard, members of our congressional delegation, and a ”really great” speaker.   Jeff Olivet of the U-S Interagency Council on Homelessness is giving the keynote address.  Lindsay says Veterans Day is about honoring those who served and those protecting our freedom.

 

>> Hy-Vee to Host 25th Annual Veterans Day Breakfast on Monday

(West Des Moines, IA) – To mark Veterans Day, all Hy-Vee stores will offer free breakfast to all veterans and active-duty military members on Monday.  Hy-Vee started this tradition 25 years ago.  All stores will be offering a free buffet-style breakfast between 6 and 10 am.  Veterans will also receive 15 percent off their grocery purchases on Monday, Veterans Day.  Hy-Vee has 41 locations in Minnesota.

 

>> Special Olympics Football Team Travels to Jacksonville

(Eagan, MN) — The Minnesota Vikings Unified Flag Football team travels to Jacksonville this weekend.  The team, represented by the Minnetonka Blues Special Olympics Minnesota team, will face the Jaguars Unified team in a game Sunday morning.  Unified programs unite individuals with and without intellectual disabilities on the same team.  This team is a partnership between the Minnesota Vikings, Special Olympics Minnesota, and Twin Cities Orthopedics.
