>>Walz Speaks in Minnesota for First Time Since Tuesday’s Election Loss

(Eagan, MN) — A warm welcome home for Governor Tim Walz Friday following a disappointing end to his run for vice president. Walz told a friendly crowd at Eagan High School, “I don’t know about you, but I’ve had a week. So, I know you have, too. Let me start out saying it’s great to be home.” Walz said it was hard to lose, but he vowed to continue fighting for Minnesota. He thanked everyone for their support during the campaign over the last three months. The governor says he plans to seek more bipartisanship at the State Capitol.

 

>>Suspicious Envelope Left at Carlton County Polling Place

(Thomson Township, MN) — Investigators are examining a suspicious envelope that was discovered at a Carlton County polling place on Tuesday. Deputies were called to the election site on Harvey Road in Thomson Township after the envelope was found in a polling booth late in the afternoon. The writing on the envelope raised concerns, prompting responses from several local agencies as well as the F-B-I. Upon inspection, the envelope was found to contain some photographs and a media drive. No injuries were reported, and a suspect hasn’t been identified.

 

>>Firearms Deer Hunting Season Opens Saturday in Minnesota

(Sandstone, MN) — Blaze orange blankets the state today (Sat) as the firearms deer season opens. The Governor’s Deer Hunting Opener is in the Sandstone area in east central Minnesota. The D-N-R is reminding everyone to put safety first. Conservation Officer Justin Frisch says one of the most common injuries associated with hunting is when a hunter falls out of a deer stand. There are around 400 thousand deer hunters in the state.

 

>>Olmsted County Hosting Special Deer Hunt for Disabled Veterans

(Rochester, MN) — The Olmsted County Parks Department is hosting its annual Disabled American Veterans deer hunt next week. The firearms hunt will start on Thursday at Chester Woods Park. Up to 30 disabled veterans will participate in the hunt, which aims to harvest enough deer to maintain a healthy and manageable herd. The park will be closed from Thursday through Sunday, November 17th.

 

>>Bell-Ringing Ceremony to Honor Crew Killed in Edmund Fitzgerald Sinking

(Two Harbors, MN) — A ceremony at Split Rock Lighthouse Sunday afternoon commemorates the 49th anniversary of the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald. Site manager Hayes Scriven says the Muster of the Last Watch pays tribute to the 29 crew members who died on Lake Superior. He says it’s a roll call and instead of the crew answering “I,I,” we ring a bell so they don’t lose their spot in the watch. The lighthouse beacon will shine for an hour after the ceremony. The event will be streamed on Split Rock Lighthouse’s Facebook Page and the Minnesota Historical Society’s YouTube channel.

 

>>Attorney General Ellison Dissolves Non-Profit UAS

(St. Paul, MN) — Attorney General Keith Ellison says he dissolved a Minnesota non-profit charity after it abandoned charitable purposes and had multiple governance violations. Ellison alleges Urban Advantage Services (UAS) failed to employ a treasurer, maintain a registered address, adequate books, and financial records, and abandoned its corporate purpose. U-A-S began in November 2020 as a food shelf under the Minnesota Nonprofit Corporation Act, committing multiple government violations as it secured funding and provided meals in 2021 and ceased activities in 2022.

 

>>Former Duluth Youth Pastor Pleads Guilty to Criminal Sexual Conduct

(Duluth, MN) — A former youth pastor from Duluth is facing a minimum of 13 years in prison after pleading guilty to criminal sexual conduct. Thirty-six-year-old Jackson Gatlin pleaded guilty to one of the five charges against him and entered an Alford plea for the other charges, which allows a defendant to be convicted without admitting guilt. Gatlin is accused of using his position at the Vineyard Church to abuse girls aged between 11 and 16. Lawyers representing several of the victims filed multiple lawsuits seeking damages from the Vineyard Church and several of its officials.

 

>>Moorhead Man Faces Aggravated Robbery Charges in Bank Robbery

(Moorhead, MN) — A Moorhead man is under arrest following a bank robbery Friday. Officers say 44-year-old Eric Flynn faces first-degree aggravated robbery charges after robbing the First International Bank Branch in Moorhead. Police say within 20 minutes of getting the report, Flynn was taken in custody in a motel room just north of the bank.  An unknown amount of money stolen was recovered.

 

>>Edina Police Search for Woman Missing Since October

(Edina, MN) — Edina Police are asking for the public’s help in finding a missing woman. Officers say 19-year-old Ubah Awes Mohamed was last seen in Edina on the morning of October 15th. S he’s described as 4 feet 11 inches tall, weighs about 120 pounds, and wears a hijab.  Mohamed was last seen in a green hooded sweatshirt and a dark red hijab.

 

>>Minneapolis Government Offices Closed Monday for Veterans Day

(Minneapolis) — Minneapolis City government offices will be closed Monday in recognition of Veterans Day. This includes Minneapolis 3-1-1 and the Minneapolis Service Center. This will not affect garbage and recycling pick-up. As always, Minneapolis police and fire emergency along with 9-1-1 are also not affected by the holiday. Finally, a note about parking on Monday: The city’s metered parking spaces will not be enforced on Monday, but other metered parking spaces may be enforced including Park Board, the University of Minnesota and private organizations that operate their own meters.
