>>Harris, Walz and Presidents Clinton and Obama to Get Out the Vote

(Undated) —  Vice President Kamala  Harris tomorrow (Thurs)  afternoon will be right across Minnesota’s border in La Crosse, as presidential candidates continue blitzing battleground state Wisconsin.  Also on Thursday, Democrats’ vice-presidential candidate, Governor Tim Walz, will be in North Carolina for two rallies — one with former President Bill Clinton — on the first day of early voting in that state.   And next Tuesday — two weeks ahead of the election — former President Barack Obama and Walz will be in Madison, Wisconsin on the first day of early voting.  Former President Donald Trump is also targeting Wisconsin and has made several stops there in recent weeks.

 

>>Lieutenant Governor Flanagan Leads Women’s Pheasant Hunt in Austin

(Austin, MN) —   Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan is leading the second annual Women’s Pheasant Hunt this morning (Wed)  in Austin.   It follows the Governor’s Pheasant Hunting Opener event on Saturday in Sleepy Eye.   Flanagan’s office says today’s event aims to attract more women to hunting and outdoor recreational opportunities in Minnesota.   Several female lawmakers are hunting with Flanagan.

 

>>Craig Leads GOP Challenger Teirab by 8 Points in New 2nd District Poll

(St. Paul, MN) —  A new survey indicates 2nd District Congresswoman Angie Craig has an eight-point lead over Republican challenger Joe Teirab.  The K-S-T-P/Survey U-S-A poll shows Craig with 49 percent support and Teirab at 41 percent.  Independents favor Craig 53 to 32 percent.  Teirab has a big lead with voters concerned about immigration and taxes.   Craig topped G-O-P candidate Tyler Kistner 51 to 46 percent in 2022 to win her third term.

 

>>Minnesota Colleges Awarded $450K in Food Security Grants

(St. Paul, MN) — Twenty-four colleges campuses across Minnesota are getting nearly 450 thousand dollars to help address food insecurity among students.   Keith Hovis with the Office of Higher Education says the issue is mostly among off-campus students who no longer are on a meal plan.  He says, “we know that 37 percent of Minnesota college students say that they’ve faced food insecurity in the last 30 days.”  Grants were awarded to both public and private schools across the state.

 

>>First Defendant in Feeding Our Future Scheme Gets 12 Years in Federal Prison

(Minneapolis, MN)  —  The first suspect in the 250-million-dollar Feeding Our Future fraud scheme will spend 12 years in federal prison and must pay nearly 48 million dollars in restitution.   Fifty-one-year-old Mohamed Jama Ismail of Savage was convicted of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and money laundering in June.  Federal prosecutors say Ismail was an owner and operator of Empire Cuisine and Market, a for-profit restaurant that participated in the scheme as a site, as a vendor for other sites, and as an entity to launder fraudulent proceeds.   Ismail and his co-defendants received more than 40 million dollars in fraudulent federal Child Nutrition program funds.

 

>>Hennepin County Attorney will Continue Prosecution of Deshaun Hill Shooting Suspect

(Minneapolis, MN) —  Hennepin County officials say they plan to continue prosecuting the man convicted of killing 15-year-old Deshaun Hill, Junior, following a Minnesota Supreme Court ruling.   The state’s high court declined to review the lower court ruling that overturned the guilty verdict of Cody Fohrenkam, sending the case back to district court for a re-trial.   Fohrenkam was found guilty of second-degree murder for shooting Minneapolis North High quarterback Hill as he was walking to the bus stop in February 2022.   County Attorney Mary Moriarty said, “We will prosecute Mr. Fohrenkam to hold him accountable for the murder of Deshaun Hill.”

 

>>Jury Nearly Complete for Adam Fravel Murder Trial

(Mankato, MN)  —  Opening arguments in Adam Fravel’s trial may get underway as scheduled for Thursday in Mankato.  Three jurors were selected yesterday in Blue Earth County, leaving the jury just one alternate short.   Opening arguments were expected to start Monday but were delayed due to the lengthy jury selection process.   Fravel is accused of killing his ex-girlfriend, Madeline Kingsbury of Winona.

 

>>MEA Travel Week  Kicks Off at MSP Airport

(Bloomington, MN) —  Minnesotans are continuing to travel at record numbers. Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport is gearing up for what is expected to be a very busy M-E-A travel week and parents pack up the kids and take them on vacation.  M-S-P officials say Thursday is going to be the busiest day  with more than 52 thousand people forecast to pass through security checkpoints. The second busiest day is today (WED) with more than 49n thousand air travelers.  M-E-A week travel closes out on Sunday.

 

>>Lynx Host Liberty in Game 3 of WNBA Finals at Target Center 

(Minneapolis, MN) —  The Minnesota Lynx and New York Liberty play Game 3 of the W-B-N-A Finals tonight  (Wed 7pm) at Target Center.   The Liberty topped the Lynx 80-66 in Brooklyn Sunday to even the best-of-five series at one game apiece.  Minnesota rallied for a 95-93 overtime victory in Game 1 Friday night at the Barclays Center.    The Lynx are encouraging everyone to wear white to tonight’s game and all fans will receive a 2024 Finals t-shirt and rally towel.

 

>>PWHL Champion Minnesota Frost To Open Season December 1st

(St. Paul, MN)  —  The defending champions of the Professional Women’s Hockey League will open their season at home on December 1st.  The Minnesota Frost  kick off the season against New York at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.  The league plans to play a 30-game schedule this season, up from 24 last season.  Teams  will play each other six times during the season.  Several breaks are also scheduled  to allow players to honor their commitments to their national teams.
